Based on your logic, if someone is world champion once and peaks higher than gary once, then he can quit and call himself the best of all time? I don't find that to be sufficient. It doesn't take away from that accomplishment but it doesnt let you make that claim. Also its literally not about superbowls or championships in any sport... dude... we are talking about individuals. There have been lots of people in history who have quickly peaked and then taper off. They are not considered the best of all time. Brilliant yes. but best ever... no. Being the best ever... you cant just "beat" gary in elo and call it a day. You have to prove that you did more than him. We know that players today are much better than those that preceded them but it doesn't give you carte blanche to barely beat gary in elo and say you are securely in the front seat. yeah, that kind of puts a slightly diminished feeling on winning, doesnt it? This is a little bit sad, however, this could mean that Magnus is losing the ability to defend the title. This is the reason why people are told to fast, be it on food or in activities they find enjoyable. The time off from these things is what actually allows a person to retain the same satisfaction they get from these things. Magnus has been competing since he was a kid.
