yay! another great story from NYC! I was hoping for a story based in a hospital, and here it is! We are at ground zero when the zombie apocalypse explodes. The story is told from the point of view of a variety of protagonists in a major city hospital when zombies appear and begin raging. I cannot imagine anything worse than being in a hospital when the zombie plague blew up. With several flu patients all going zombie at once, the zombies spread exponentially within minutes, overrunning the hospital. And any backup that shows up would be there to help, and would be attacked and overcome. The disaster happens and spreads with such speed that it is impossible to stop.
What is especially chilling about the zombie plague in this series, the terminal part of the plague is somehow timed, with the majority of ill people dying and turning zombie all at the same time. So the zombies don't just spread from one place, but from many places at once. And these zombies are not the slow, stumbling ghouls of the movies, but are fast and viscous.
The group we follow has a pretty decent chance at survival, as they have some pretty valuable skills, cop, emergency pilot, nurses. Frankly they have a better chance than a lot of other people. It was heartbreaking to see the loss of Felix and nurse Barnes. Here's hoping the rest of the group makes it long term.
This story is terrific, with a chilling, wrenching feeling of reality, with great details, good charters, good plotting and great story telling. I like this one especially because it is being told from several different points of view at once, rather than following just one protagonist. You can easily visualize the action as it is described. One of the best in this series.

I really love this one ! I'm a huge zombie genre fan and when I was pregnant I stumbled upon your audiobooks on storytel ,I listened to all of them and found way more on here. I like that this one was a big longer than the usual lately. One of my favorite parts of stories is the process of falling in love with the charecter ya know? Having the time to really do that. That's just me tho lol. All the stories are fan freaking tastic regardless haha. 😊 👍

Glad you're enjoying them and thanks for listening! Yes, all of the Dead America stories are taking place in the same universe. They're on the same zombie outbreak timeline (so the Day Zero in Texas spreading out to the rest of the country and world).
Do you know what else I also find very interesting? 🤔In a lot of these stories it seems like the virus spread so fast that there was little to no time to report it on the news. Such a cool scary detail!
I'm not sure if you've listened to the first story in the main series (Dead Texas - Day Zero) but it breaks down the virus and how it spreads. Basically a virus was released in texas that spread undetected, targeting people with A-type blood. Once infected they died roughly 72 hours later, reanimating as a zombie. so by the time anybody knew what was happening, the virus had taken root and people began turning

Plus it's hard to write 2 hour stories about people who panic since they don't tend to live too long, haha

Great stories about New York! Having been to that large overpopulated city you could see that place being a nightmare in a zombie apocalypse. I know it's fiction, but it feels realistic. The details, geographical landmarks, infrastructures and locations make it very entertaining. I'm referring to all of your zombie stories in the collection. Many of the areas that I have lived, drove through, or vacationed at are in your stories. It makes it interesting. As a fan of your stories, I say: Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you! For a lot of these stories I'll go into Google Street view to see what the characters are seeing. It was funny a couple years ago when I stopped for gas in El Paso and realized "hey I blew this station up in El Paso 2" haha

Derek I thought of an entire series for you that would be really fun a singular us navy destroyer warship kind of like the TV show the last ship but with your own twist and zombies the ship would be fully stocked as they just left Norfolk with a healthy crew mere hours they were called off their mission of joining a NATO task force near England to station in US waters with their tomahawk missiles and the seal team on board the ship could serve as a good safe haven for military efforts and they can even retake Guantanamo bay for resupply later in the series they can do runs into towns to get politicians on board and try to find a cure
Or if you are up for it an entire carrier group. Losing some ships entirety while others contained the a types and successfully retook control
Zombies on a us military submarine would be cool as well
