What it’s like to drive 300 miles per hour, from Andy Wallace, the guy who did it. At 147 pounds and average height, the mild-mannered, fifty-something Brit could have come straight from central casting for the term “nondescript.” But he’s anything but normal: Wallace has driven and raced high-performance sports cars since 1988, and he’s won more than 25 international competitions, including all four of the big ones: the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and Petite Le Mans 1,000-Mile race.
After a year of preparations in secret, weeks at the test track, and an intensive four days at Ehra-Lessien touching 299 mph, but unable to break the 300 mph barrier, Wallace finally hit 304.77 mph on one last, record-setting lap. The 12-mile track is a three-sided layout that uses banked corners, so he got up to speed on one of the long, back straight stretches.

What happens when you drive 300 mph?
You go really fast!
Time slows down.. fact 😁
You run out of fuel fast.
😂😂😂
@@heathvanharen5062I actually know time stays the same FACTS😵

You're closer to meeting your maker!😅
I remember hitting vmax in my VW bug. At 62 mph the sensation was just incredible.
😅😂 well played.
So you where going down hill 😅
Yes, with a tailwind off a cliff and the ac off.
@@ericruggles4631wow, your Bug had AC? 😂😅
Yes it had AC the windows were down.
Carbon fiber tires eh?
The inside was coated with carbon fiber to prevent them from expanding u see high load
@@unspeakable9514 of the tire or wheel? Sidewall or?
@@Fee.1 it is reinforced with carbon fiber on the tire part that’s why they can withstand the force and also why they are so expensive
Carbon fiber woven into the tires, also glued to the bead of the rims and double beads. So even if there's a blowout it won't dismount. $42,000 per set, set lasts 15 minutes at 250mph
CF reinforced is worlds different from a CF Tire

Nooooooooo
What sucks is that it’s pretty rare to have perfect conditions to have the car achieve 300 mph. You’re almost never going to utilize that speed in a non-controlled environment.
Secondly, once that 300 mph run is done, the car goes straight to the shop for breakdown and maintenance.
How do I know? It’s exactly what we did when one showed up to one of our airstrips. Almost immediately after the demonstration , it was loaded onto a plane and flew off to France.
That car is a gimmick, move VW parts than a GTI
There is a 2006 Ford gt that has a record of 304 mph but doesn't have the dramatic story of this one lol
310 mph with more in it. Videos on CZcams "Ford gt 310 mph"
yea of course. bugatti is owned by VW
Ford GT did 310 mph and one 2000 HP Ford gt hit 300 mph in just 1 mile
While it took 5 miles for Bugatti 😂
Scrambles your internal organs😂😂
It really does, but not to the capacity they explain, ask USAF, or Thrust. LOL.
If James May can do it I bet most of us can too
I know Captain Slow, and you sir are no Captain Slow!
Don't kid yourself, James May is an experienced motor journalist, you're someone commenting on a CZcams video. Sit down, and if you're an American learn to drive first.
Preach!

I can tell you right now, it does not feel like that. If you want to know what 300mph feels like, get on a plane. An A380 has a thrust take off of 280,000lb. If you were to convert that to horsepower - using a typical equation (kg.m^2/s^2 or for simple terms... power = thrust x velocity) it's the equivalent of 275,000bhp. An A380 weighs 277,000kg, which means it has a road going power to weight ratio of 992hp/ton, or 0.496hp/lb... I use an A380 as an example, because the Chiron that recorded the 300mph run, has a power to weight ratio of 0.362 hp/lb. The only difference with the A380 and a Chiron, is that the Chiron is doing 300mph on the ground, which is resistance feedback heavy, wobbly wheel, fast moving objects. The feelings he describes are not because of speed's impact on your body, it's because it's too fast for him to process. And we all process differently. I've personally been 220mph, and after 15 seconds, it feels like you're doing 65 on the highway, minus the more aggressive road feedback.
Not the same because of scale size of the airplane!!! Lmfao but I get what your trying to say
Yea thats what i always tell ppl about the a380 992hpton +277 k then u carry the nine round down to the flux capacitor and wammo u get that data...😂😂
@@jamesdamron2065use a smaller plane then.
Well I’m not sure if your data is accurate, BUT I’m also not intelligent enough to challenge your statement! I do know this, you certainly have presented your data in a very authoritative manner and I’m inclined to accept your explanation as fact purely based on my being impressed by the way you presented it! Bravo and thank you for your insight! 🤔🤷♂️👍🏼

man im surprised everyone on the concord didn't instantly die from their internals shifting because they were going over 1000 mph.
That's not how it works, if they suddenly accelerated to that speed then it would be concerning but they gradually reached that speed making it easily sustainable for the human body.
@@theantrules6436 boy you either dont understand a joke or are fun at partiea.
@@theantrules6436 its a little thing called g force or gravity force which is speed over time. you could technically go 200 billion mph and be perfectly safe. the joke was that at the end he said your organs shift and thats not true at all.
@@theantrules6436 as long as you accelerate a 9.8m/s you can go to 100 billion mph and be perfectly fine. if you go to 100 billion mph in 1 second you're a fly on a fly swatter. thanks for ruining my joke.
@@greatleader4841 firstly the joke wasn’t even funny which is why i said that, secondly you’re not saying anything different than what i said lol. ik what g forces are, and it’s precisely why i said what i said, and you were repeating that for no reason
shoutout to the pilots who never complain
I've been over 200 mph twice in a car and over 180 5 times including my two times over 200. It's actually very comfortable
I've done 205mph on a 'bike and it's actually quite serene.
The only problem is when you slow down. You can scrub off a huge portion of speed and feel like you've slowed down significantly but still be doing over 100mph, yet you can feel like you're barely moving.
@@8iker I completely get that. On a bike 130 has been my top and when I get down to 65 it feels like 25
@@8iker same as when I did 100 (but km/h instead) and slow down to 60, basically I was barely moving

I’ve gone over 130 and it’s crazy how much information your taking in going that fast
In Mexico
Umm it's tires were rubber, buddy. The wheels were CF
Unless it's cf cord in them i guess? Idk, so many wierd statements in this clip 😂
Wheels weren't cf either
Meanwhile John Force, a 74 year old senior citizen does it daily in under 4 seconds
Yeah, planes are full of people passed out with crushed organs at 550mph😂😂
They attain speed gradually compares to Chiron😊
I think it depends on who you sit next to. 🐘
@@jyothisarena how many Gs is the chiron pulling? Planes aren't limited by friction. Chiron would be lucky to do 2 Gs for a few seconds. 1G is usually the limit without crazy glued track and very soft stick tires.

Several hundred top fuel dragster pilots laugh at this guy. 300mph in 3 seconds.
That is not road legal 😂😂😂
Yap then proceeds to rebuild the engine after they did one run😂
But we can go around 500 or more in a plane
Not the same thing.
But flying in a commercial jet at 600 mph feels like you are standing still .
Love that I heard twice 300mph but the dashboard says 320km per hour. Like what? Seriously?
The Shy-Ron
the shorts make me jump on the game and get to racing.
Take it to the TEXAS MILE and see how fast this car is. We don’t want hear stories about it going 300 mph. We actually want to see it really do it. 😂
Correct my grandmother station wagon goes 60
Texas mile it would do about 228 mph??
It was taken there, didn't even make it to 230, still fast regardless, but that Ford GT boi, that one was something special!
227 IIRC
I thought the car would've teleported to a different realm and had to race to get the wheel of power
Hot wheel joke nice
Jay Leno spoke about this and how the brake routers caught fire during a run. Also that when he brought that up to the Engineers he was surprised by them telling him that was normal!
Yes and the rotors too!
i want the narrator to ride me at 300mph
"It moves around some of your internal organsand scrambles them" oo yes thats what we crave for
They're making tires out of carbon-fibre now?
The inside of the tire has carbon fiber to prevent it from flexing to much or something
Speed makes me feel drunk, like dizzy and my brain fighting to understand it lmao
You don't have to say it man accelerating from 60 to 100 feels like I'm running out of road

The part about experiencing it in the torso...I mean if you ever been on a plane you know exactly what it’s like to travel faster than 300mph
Carbon fiber tires !!! Holy shit !!!
Why do you think this 300 mile an hour thing. Most people can’t handle you every day on an airplane and fighter pilots go anywhere from 4 to 7 times that speed.
the difference is that this is a car
Now they are gonna add a v12

So the driver sounds like anyone I ever knew that had an easy job, that tells everyone it’s hard to hopefully not loose it. Like when I used to do landscaping the guys that mowed would tell new guys how hard it was, and they should be happy they are walking around weed eating in 100 degree weather 😂😂
I don't know how fighter pilots survive...
They can pull +9Gs/-3Gs for about 1-2 seconds.
