Sorry about the credits appearing earlier than they should have everyone!
Don't worry man! Still awesome video! Ramsay Bolton please
Do Bricktop from Snatch next please.
Probably a longshot, but since you did Insoc.... how about the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40k?
Can you please look into Ray shoesmith from Mr in-between. I feel he would make a very interesting character to break down
Come on, Vile Eye!!! How many flaming mental hoops are you jumping through and mental gymnastics are you dong to try and find redeeming qualities in Pazuzu???

@@ringkunmori That sounds like the name of a Digimon
Well, it’s still a pretty funny name. At least they knew not to call it that in the first movie, only referring to him as “the devil”. The sequel fucked that up.
Father Merrin in the first movie perfectly describes the intentions of the demon: “think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us.” That’s the goal of Satan and his angels.
Then Pazuzu accomplished that task.
An omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being to witness what that movie demonstrates indicates at the very least that God is indifferent to when we suffer. Effortlessly that being could stop what is going on in that movie, and he doesn't.
For How Could An all-powerful being who loves his children, let this child suffer while offering no assistance and Pazuzu mocking everybody for trying, and mock God himself for not acting.
@idcyco3623 the problem was that until Father Merrin came in, there was no one with enough faith to deal with pazuzu. The mother had no faith. She was an atheist and the doctors were all approaching the problem from a strictly scientific approach and were lost when their methods failed. Even Father Karras who was an ordained priest was lost because he was unsure of his faith. In a way they already saw themselves as animal, base, and were trying to act alone without God.
Father Merrin had embraced God's love. He was devoted and unshakable in his faith. Pazuzu hated him and was afraid because Father Merrin was capable of driving Pazuzu out. Father Karras had to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to successfully get Pazuzu to release Reagan.
I look at it as this: the devil had to pull out all of the stops to get people to suffer and despair. His angel had to expose itself, use all of its powers and yet it was still bested by humans who just had to have faith.
@@ryanarment5393 and that's a stupid problem. It shouldn't matter if the mom was an atheist, the child is innocent. And despite being an atheist, she's innocent too. Punishing someone for not believing you exist through their child is not a good way to get someone to believe in you as the loving caring being such a diety claims to be. It might make the atheist aware that a higher power exists, but that wouldn't make most believe IN that being as a benevolent being who watches over the innocent which Reagan was.. I would loathe that being for putting my child through that suffering just because I personally didn't believe they existed. F*** that noise. The dogmatic rules regarding these faiths is retarded.
@@idcyco3623........yes.
@@SatanasExMachina yes what? Your name alludes to some sort of demonic reference. And I got a mouthful to say about God's first creation taking its spite out on God's other creation.
You would think that the demons would be wise enough to get the hint that God does not necessarily take care of us anymore than God took care of them.
It's like an older sibling beating on the younger sibling because the parents beat on the older one. We didn't do anything, and if they had paid attention they would notice that our parents beats on us too. Taking their anger out on us isn't going to make God upset. He's killed us in droves quite a few times when his vindictive side reared its head.
We are expendable, he's proved that many of time. He wiped out all of Jobs family in a bet.
You know a film is bad when Vile decides to dunk on it for no reason, as they tend to not bring their personal opinion on the quality of the product 😂

The reason Pazuzu, as a demon of wind, was associated with both causing and protecting from disease is that ancient people believed disease was caused by "bad air". A wind demon might bring such air to you, or drive it away from you, leading to this double aspect that seems odd to us.
Miasma
I just watched a special on When The Wind Blows, a cartoon movie on nuclear war. The video essayer explained that the title is based on how fallout would be carried on the wind, bringing death to the survivors who thought they got away. Its a chilling thing to think of in a video on a demon god of the wind.
@@Badficwriter Oh I loved that film, it was one of the most depressing things I have ever seen. Have you seen the 1982 film "The Plague Dogs"? No association with the wind, but probably the only cartoon more depressing than "When the Wind Blows".
@@aspieanarchist5439
That is interesting. I could see Jews during the Babylonian Exile talking about Pazuzu rather than a Levantine demon thru sheer familiarity.
Protective spells invoking Pazuzu would have been very common in Babylonia at the time, and the Jews may well have assumed this meant Pazuzu was a major deity (tho ofc as a demon, Pazuzu was not worshipped by the Babylonians, but compelled to act thru magic).

"The Exorcist 3" is a pretty underrated sequel that was forgotten by fault of the awful reception of "The Exorcist 2". The mere acting of Brad Douriff and Jason Miller as the Gemini Killer and the perfectly executed screaming in the Hospital make it worth watching!
You read my mind here The Exorcist 3 is a criminally underrated 💎 of a horror movie sequel that has beyond stood the test of time.
The author of the OG Exorcist was so disappointed in the 2nd and just said "Fine. I'll do it myself"
I didn't watch after the 2nd, maybe I should now
Blatty's book he took it from isn't bad either.
That hospital scene, good lord…
“I have seen the Exorcist 167 times, and it gets funnier each time!”
-Beetlejuice
Pazuzu will always be my favorite depiction of a demon because of two scenes.
1: When father Karras sits with him for the first time he falsely introduces himself as the devil and asks Karras to remove the straps, to which Karras asks why he doesn’t just remove them himself and Pazuzu says “that’s much too vulgar a display of power, father Karras.” If you think about what a demon is, an entity of pure pride who tried to rebel against God Himself, it’s almost profound for Pazuzu to introduce himself as the devil, a stronger entity than he, and to be too proud to show even a fraction of his power to a priest. They truly nailed the idea that demons are first and foremost entities of pride made manifest.
2: When father Merrin arrives at the house, before considering the sequels or prequels to aid the lore, you see Pazuzu in bed looking afraid. Before all he’d dealt with was scared onlookers, confused doctors, and father Karras who’s been having a crisis of faith, but now he’s about to come face to face with an elder clergyman who’s performed an exorcism before, who’s faith is unshakable, and who has no fear of demons. That tiny scene of Merrin standing in the street staring up at the house, feeling the evil radiating from that bedroom, and Pazuzu strapped to the bed looking terrified as he knows he’s in for a real fight is easily the single greatest scene of any exorcism-based movie.
Absolutely
Dude felt God enter the damn chat and thought "SHIT"
It is a good scene. An utterly ancient all powerful being, about to be humbled by an old mortal man.
Regarding your first point: there's a comic book theory about displays of power by beings that sometimes receive worship. The idea is that acts must not be too common and familiar, or it lessens the entity in the human zeitgeist's eyes, causing it to be weaker. That is why the intelligent ones use certain ritualistic tricks, because it makes them seem greater in the human race consciousness and feeds them power. Famed writer Alan Moore used a variant of this by having a child get angry at a demon that fed on fear. The child began to rave at the demon, describing it as pathetic, unscary, even mice were scarier. The demon lost power, getting smaller and smaller until it was easily destroyed.
I don't believe demons are real, in bibles or comic books, but the systems to explain them are interesting.
That demon did not look afraid. It was ready for a rematch against Merrin. Why do you think it said his name on the backward English and screamed it in one of the most terrifying jump scares ever right after he walks in? It's rage, not fear. I like your first point though.
"Pazuzu, you ungrateful gargoyle, I put you through college, and this is how you repay me?"
- Professor Hubert Farnsworth
8:05 nailed it Mr Vile Eye. Some people(and things) don't need a reason to be evil. Like Alfred tells Bruce in The Dark Knight "Some men just want to watch the world burn"
Or Randall Flagg "it's because it's what I want, and that's reason enough"
The original Michael Myers is a perfect example. The way John Carpenter intended him to be was, "PURE EVIL, Evil Personified, a Force of Nature." Basically "The Shape." No explanation, no cause or reason. Walking Death.
And David Gordon Green and Danny F'CKIN McBride Ruined everything Michael was supposed to represent.
Yeah, some men DO just want to see the world burn, and take classic horror franchises down with them.
"Oi, SCORCHED EARTH!"

@@wadewilson8011 I think a reboot coming
@@wadewilson8011Halloween 2018 was good tho
I think this is a misunderstanding and the book says Pazuzu wanted Karras the whole time. Reagan was his way to get to him. That's also why the film puts such emphasis on Father Karras from the beginning. He is the target, not Reagan.
You know how much of a baller you gotta be to piss off a demon older than most recorded human history so badly that it decides to keep you alive simply out of spite? Karras was a genuine hero.
Pazuzu had nothing to do with resurrection of Karras. It is clearly written it was the Devil himself who resurrected Karras for the Gemini killer to use. Pazuzu was not present during the events of Exorcist III. Would be illogical to give a demon such powers anyway, he could just re-possess anyone by resurrecting them. Highly illogical. What Karras did pissed off the Devil and he was punished for it.
Father Karras was a misguided exorcist. A Catholic exorcist would never invite the demon into themselves. Neither would the priest commit suicide. The film, unfortunately, used too much negative licence. But having said that, both the book and movie are outstanding. The movie is one of the best. I can't watch it today. Too real.
The fact that Pazuzu was used as a source of protection could have made for a far more interesting Exorcist sequel. Imagine a family making a deal with the demon in order to keep another one at bay.
I feel like that was the direction they were going in the planned Blumhouse trilogy, because the new one had Lamashtu as the villain. Problem is, as Vile said the new one sucked.
This is well acknowledged in the book that the film is based on. "Fight evil with evil" is one of the first things Merrin says when he finds the amulet. And it's also explained that Pazuzu statues and amulets were used to protect yourself from other demons. Hence that line. There's no deals to be made. Pazuzu is known for his ability to dominate other demons and his will to fight them. He does that without any deals.
@@twistedelegance_that's like fighting fire with fire all your gonna end up with fire and a possible bigger one then the one you had at the beginning
@@theenderdestruction2362 Indeed. I would guess that was the point of the sentence in the book.

@@MrfrogAXNI remember the first time that I've heard about the film and saw Pazuzu's face, it scared the living daylights out of me.
Bonne nuit... bonne nuit to you all...
Oddly enough, the only scene of the Exorcist that truly scared me was the part where Pazuzu flashes abruptly in Reagan's head while being tested in the hospital. I was not at all expecting it, but even on rewatch, the image has burnt itself into my memory. It's like Nosferatu on steroids
I found multiple scenes truly scary but that may have done the most damage to me. It's this unforeseen force lurking in the darkness, casting all of its hate and malice onto that poor little girl and only she could experience it.
Missed that bit
There were many images that scared me in that film but the only one I haven't grown out is Pazuzu's face. I'm just imagining that this is what Reagan (the personality of Reagan) sees in her possessed state at the later stages.
Yeah, you only see the death mask for a fraction of a second; no jump scare music or anything.
I loved how you almost had me going. But when you said “they managed to make an exorcist movie worse then the second one”, boom. That was genius
Pazuzu is Professor Farnsworth's gargoyle. He is dark red with dark purple wings, yellow eyes and light red horns. He escapes Professor Farnsworth and flies off to an unknown place. Professor Farnsworth goes after him, but then forgets and Pazuzu isn't then mentioned until the end of the episode.
I thought he actually released him. He said Satan "owed him one"
Ideas for villain analysis:
El Guapo, Three Amigos
Jareth, Labyrinth
Cujo, Cujo
Dark Helmet, Spaceballs
Ferris, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Judge Doom, Who Framed Roger Rabbit
You can say that Pazuzu was born evil.
Pazuzu: "I am the demon with the most ridiculous name in history"
Papiyas: "That's cute..."
His other names Maya and Hajun are pretty badass though.
I’m gonna sound uncultured as freak here but who or what is Papiyas?
Another demon god, perhaps?
Some obscure horror character?
@@justaguyonyoutube4592 papiyas is a demon that attempted to trick the Buddha into abandoning his path. He’s in record of ragnarok but I think that’s it.
@@excaliburknives3572
Ah, so basically the Buddhism equivalent of Satan then, no?
@@justaguyonyoutube4592 kind of yes
So Pazuzu dropped “even evil has standards” if that headcanon is true.
I saw the exorcist in college for film class and it’s been me of the most intense, scariest films I’ve ever seen. Seeing a little girl being tortured was not something I was ready for, especially as a former Christian.
I dunno.
With what Pazuzu did to Reagan was truly haunting.
Pazuzu has no standards for it may not even know what standards are or even if it does, why should it have standards and conform to societal norms?
It’s an evil demon god.
It’s corruption and evil knows no bounds.
My mom still talks about this movie and how she will never watch it again because it scared her so much. I could imagine how frightening and much impact this movie had back when it released.
When the Vile Eye uploads, you are in for a good villainous time...
Flagg
In John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness, I think that the Anti-God, though enigmatic, was more fearful than Pazuzu.
Pazuzu is so much more animalistic, visceral, and scatological. Emotional and vile. The being in prince of darkness is far more cold and alien, utterly inhuman and unknowable.
@@sethwick8348Yeah, there are small cults of Satanism who worship the Anti-God under the names Chavajoth or Azerate, whom Satan emanated from. I truly did enjoy that film!
What makes The Exorcist so scary is the idea that it could happen to anyone. The sequel undid that and made Reagan a very unique, special person that Pazuzu targeted. The sequel, while it had good ideas, was nonsensical in its execution of the material
Exactly. It has a very “this can happen to you any time anywhere” factor. Not like other horror stories where you have to go somewhere like a haunted house, Forrest, or open sea for the horror to happen.
@spinlok3943 plus, it's also horrifying that the demon possessed a young girl. Children are the most innocent and helpless among us, and it possessed her instead of a serial killer or the like.
I sort of agree. In the book the movie was based on, the psychological side is given as much plausibility as the methaphysical one. In that, you are right, it could happen to anyone.
Given the premise of real supernatural entities, you may even picture a hierarchy within a disfunctional "family": the father/mother figure (the creator) is mostly absent, the first born shares traits (power) with the paternal figure, yet somehow the attention, if any, is given to the youngest and weakest (human kind). Jelousy and bitterness against the young and weak would be the result. Because the older child can hurt the sibling, he/she will, perhaps even to elicit an intervention from the creator itself.
Man, you're one of the few youtubers, who put out such frequent content, that over the years has not only avoided a decrease in quality but it’s gotten better and better. I would love to see you do an episode on either Wilson Fisk from Daredevil and the MCU, or, on a more realistic note like with your Frank Costello video, Pablo Escobar from Narcos, or really, the entirety of the Narcos cast.
Regardless, great video as always!
Your content is some of my favorite on CZcams.
As a long time fan of the Exorcist and Exorcist III, as well as the books. I will say that the Pazuzu story line is largely absent from the first and third films and the books. William Peter Blatty was a devout Roman Catholic and it's Catholic demonology that he based his demon on. The demon is not one, but many. Legion. It's never named. The statue Merrin finds at the beginning of the first book and film are really just a plot device that was expanded on for the second film and many of the sequels. The Exorcist is basically two cannons; one about a crisis of faith, the other is demon lore.
Some of the funniest moments in AE videos is when vile will wait to do the intro till the scary villain starts talking
I love that shit! 😂 The video with Hannibal and this one made me laugh when it happened.
I did learn about Mesopotamia in school but never heard of these gods. When I heard you say "Nurgle" I thought of one of the four Chaos Gods from Warhammer 40k. I then found out the Mesopotamia version I spelt "Nurgal" and not "Nurgle" with an "E."
Dude from the black metal band "Behemoth" uses the pseudonym "Nergal." 😂
Ngl, I prefer the ending of the original movie more in which Kindemar meets Dyer and they become friends. Not only is it a good way to tie the movie together with "The Exorcist 3", but a beautiful way to symbolize that, no matter what horrible things happen, human kindness will not cease to exist
You needed the Alfred scene from dark Knight to explain pazuzu. Some men (demons) just want to watch the world burn
That's the concept of demons in the first place.
They are not personal beings.
They aren't someone, they are something.
They are spawns of evil.
Evil concepts , corrupted once .
Love turns in to lust .
Order turns to tiranny.
Justice turns to vengeance.
And so on .
It doesn't have a mind or a choice.
It's just evil, because that's the perpose of it's existence.
About three years ago, I woke up in my bed and turned my head to see Pazuzu stand over me. For almost a full year, I was convinced that it was 100% real, Im pretty sure it was sleep paralysis.
It was probably the scariest thing I've ever seen to this day. I dont think my room has ever been that quiet again.
I think I would have a heart attack if that ever happens to me
Well, sleep paralysis is a form of demonic oppression. Those who suffer from it frequently seem to see things when they awake, faces and figures holding them down. I used to get sleep paralysis quite often for probably a decade or longer, a time in which I had walked away from Jesus Christ. But, praise God, He eventually succeeded in bringing me back home to Him. I've not been afflicted with sleep paralysis a single time in the four-and-a-half years since my return.

Two characters worth looking at:
Asmodeus from ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’
Dagmaar from ‘Disenchantment’
It took me an embarrassingly long time to pick up on the "hello everyone" bit you do at the beginning of your videos. Once I caught on I couldn't stop laughing. Such a smart way to pepper in some humor in otherwise dark subject matter. 😂
Please do Catherine Trammell from Basic Instinct!
Didn’t expect this one! Favorite movie!
I don’t know why, but every time I see a post on CZcams about Pazuzu, I burst out laughing at this funny creature, and I click on it. He’s probably a really funny guy in real life. Not only funny looking, but has a funny sense of humor. He’s said to be the emotion of funniness itself.
Indeed demons need no motivation for being evil since they are in fact evil by nature.
Sounds like the most recent Exorcist movie deserves the MST3K/Rifftrax treatment!
It would be dope if you did an analysis on house of a thousand corpses, or the uncle in the first hell raiser movie. Thanks for taking this into consideration
4:59 If you read the Exorcist novel (which the film is based on), Pazuzu says everything he does is by design. His target was always Father Karras. Which is why the film puts so much emphasis on him from the very beginning. He isn't doing this for mayhem, but to have "another jewel in his crown: a priest". This is why he makes his presence known to Merrin in Iraq. The MacNeils just happened to be close enough to be used to get to Karras and end Merrin.
My favourite 'Hello Everyone' yet.
The most evil entity you've ever covered yet and maybe ever will cover? There's nothing more evil than the devil. The scene where Sharon and Damien go into Reagan's room late at night to see the "HELP ME" message appear on her skin and all the implications that come with it make my skin crawl to this day.
I still think Vern Schillinger from Oz is still one of the most legendary villains this channel still hasn't yet covered.
In the very well-made supernatural series called "30 Coins", there is a large Pazuzu statue very prominently placed in the beginning of the second season's second episode titled, 30 Coins.

Pazuzu is another clear case of someone who lacked positive emotional support during his formative years. With a little TLC & one on one therapy Pazuzu can become a productive member of society. 🙂

The real horror was thinking for a second that vile eye liked the new exorcist movie
I have to point out that the Exorcist is only *part* of why figures like Pazuzu, Dagon, and Nergal are still remembered in pop culture. You can't leave out the influences of things like Dungeons & Dragons (in which Pazuzu and Dagon are prominent demon lords), Warhammer (which features the Chaos God 'Nurgle'), and the grand daddy of all cosmic horror himself, H.P. Lovecraft (whose 'Deep Ones' not only worshiped the twin-deities of 'Father *Dagon* and Mother Hydra, but he also wrote a short story literally titled *Dagon*).

Whole heartedly agree with your conclusion. I find Pazuzu such an effective evil entity because it is the epitome of pure evil. You can't reason with it, you can't negotiate with it, and your goals will never be aligned with it. It wants to hurt you and everything else in existence because that is the nature of its own existence.
@TheVileEye Since you did Morgoth, I figured I'd throw these two suggestions out there: Count Olaf from "A Series of Unfortunate Events" or Saint Dane from D.J. MacHale's "Pendragon: Journal of an Adventure Through Time and Space." Both are pretty long series, but both give lots of instances of the villans to get insight on. Honestly, Saint Dane scared me more as a teen, so I'd prefer him, lol
The movies that made many people ill when they are screen on the Cinema in the 70s and Some areas of Wales banned the film from being shown and, in 1988, all home video copies of The Exorcist were removed from British stores. In Tunisia, it was prohibited right from the get-go under claims that it "presented unjustified propaganda in favour of Christianity".
Please do Sauron from LOTR in the future
I'd love for you to do an analysis of room 1408 that would be awesome!
I would like to submit Jonas Venture Sr. from The Venture Bros for a future episode! He seems like such a magnanimous and beloved man to the public, yet so casually did many evil things all for his own pursuits.
Bro, I saw the thumbnail in the corner of my eye when looking for something to watch, scared the shit out of me, I'm genuinely scared of it, lol
