  • This week on CCLemon99.com I revisit an old topic after making a strange discovery. This involves a Tokusatsu composer who ripped off a Hollywood Soundtrack and the Hollywood composer ripping off another composer. Check it out here: www.cclemon99.c...

Welcome to my short review of the DX Knuckle Cross [ナックルクロス] from Chosei Kantai Sazer X [超星艦隊セイザーX]!
In the early-mid 2000s Toho decided to try their hand once again at a series of television Tokusatsu heroes. The Seishin series of the shows ran from 2003-2006 and featured three pretty unique sets of heroes. This series of shows is far from Toho's first television outing, but it had been some time since they had done shows like Guyferd (1996) and Cybercop (1988) and it was kinda neat to see them try to build their own franchise. It really wasn't meant to be, however, as Sazer X would be the final installment after Gransazer (2003) and Justirisers (2004). To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely familiar with these shows. I've had the Sazer X toys since the show was airing, so what better time than now to finally get into them...
The DX Knuckle Cross comes with a Strage Ring and three individual pieces for Lio Sazer, Eagle Sazer, and Beetle Sazer.
I really enjoy the design of this toy. It's incredibly slick and has some interesting colors. I particularly like the design of the Lio Sazer chip. The whole thing is reminiscent of the Twin Brace from Chojuu Sentai Liveman. Between the two-piece design and the proximity-sensor style activation, it had to have been an inspiration. That said, this does feature more sounds than the Twin Brace. I honestly prefer this over the Inloaders from Justirisers and the Knuckle Riser from Gransazer.
On the other hand, there are some strange shortcomings with this toy. For starters, why is the chrome so beat up on this toy. I've owned it since new and I'm almost 100% certain I've never taken it out of the box prior to making this video. The straps on both halves are woefully tiny. I have some pretty small wrists and I can't make the Strage Ring fit and the Knuckle Cross itself has to go around three of my fingers instead of my, you know, knuckle. Meh. The quality just isn't all that wonderful. Sure, it isn't a Bandai toy, but this wasn't priced much different from it's red-square rivals.
I actually do enjoy this toy quite a bit. I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to reviewing seeing as I reviewed the Gransazer Knuckle Riser and Justiriser Inloaders eons ago. I would recommend this over the other two if you can find one for a decent price. This isn't the end of the Sazer X story...tune in next week for that.
