- I bought a $60 First Class overnight train ticket thinking it was going to be just that... For a 15 hour train ride I was expecting first class treatment all the way down to the south of Vietnam, but unfortunately this didn't seem to be the case.

Railways in Vietnam have a very long history, it is more than 140 years old. After the war with France and the Vietnam War later, the railway lines were almost only maintained, repaired and very little investment. This is absolutely a true old train.
Now they are focusing on highways and airports. Maybe there will be bullet trains in the future.
Vietnam plans to build high speed railway but They are still considering two options for passenger trains with a speed of more than 300km/h and a combined passenger train with a speed of more than 200km/h.
Great video David. Thank you 👍 🇨🇦
wow you got so much patience david i don’t think i could do a train ride like that for so many hours confined with all those people
Looks nice train ride 😄 love your videos ❤️❤️
Enjoy the journey, go with the flow.
These are not really 1st class cabins. They would be considered as "soft sleepers" (4 beds) or 2nd class.
The "1st class" cabins have only 2 beds.
David. You’re so brave. I đi from Hả Nội to Sapa overnight. Took 9 hours. I’m from California. 8 live most year in Vietnam.
I rode the train from Tuy Hoa to Saigon 1st class sleeper. Had one person in the cabin with us till we got to Nha Tran, then he got off. beautiful country side views the whole trip.
Train ride are cool as hell , the point of taking the train over a plane is for it view and meeting local , vietnam from da nang to hue are amzing same for the train track in khanh hoa
It looked fine mate 👌 enjoy 👍
This ain’t first class, this peasant class. I couldn’t do it, you a trooper!
I kind of love the train rides in Vietnam, they are so oldschool. I think my train-counter sits at six or seven right now, with the longest journey being from Da Nang to Sai Gon at almost 18 hours. Have Always been travelling first-class with the 4-bed-rooms except once, where I took the VIP-cabin with only two beds. These are very nice if you are able to get a nice roommate.
The restrooms are atrocious though.
we did the 2x cabin as a couple, it was actually amazing but very expensive lol
I've done that same train before to nha trang. Was pretty uncomfortable ride, couldn't sleep. Anyways, hope u have an awesome time in mui ne. I'm heading there soon too, maybe I will see u there.
Enjoy the trip! Mui Ne is beautiful
Crazy bike ride. I would lose my bag.
HELLO DAVID🙂👍💪❤
Try the "Lotus train" people. It's totally different.
2X cabin was where it was at !!!
Trains are still not popular in Vietnam. But with rising population, I believe we have a long way to go.
I took third class in China in 1993(hard seat, all other classes full) for 35 hours compared to that this is above gold, pure luxury. this reminds me more of Italian trains in the 1980's (slightly worse than Italian ones). Russian trains sleeper class were much wider and very nice simple and cheap restaurants i remember. I would take this one you showed for sure. maybe the bed looks a bit small(not wide). i would need to take the lower berth anyway as it has happened that i wake up in the middle of the night and move a lot , sort of nightmares . you don't want to jump from the top lol
can you check out the high speed rail?? yea the made in japan one~~
I did take the Japn bullet train to Fuji moutain . It is kind of noisy through ..
if you get service on a train in Indonesia like that, and u record it 100% the train waiter will be attacked by netizens here, bad experience but you can get through it, great
Excellent Video bro, You Australian Accent is perfect, I was born in Melbourne but live in the USA and Have been to Vietnam and many palces, keep em coming bro. CWO Ian M. Garland
I suggest you fly back. 😂
Thought this was on my list for my next trip to Vietnam, gee not so sure now
You can get a vip 2 bedder, that one looks quite nice
Nice ladies give you food❤
I will pass on the train next time I’m in VN. Flights are relatively cheap anyway.
Now I am in the train SE4, first class... I thought it's a joke. The next time I will book a flight. Even cheaper.
It is a bit rough 😅
Salam mas david ya surabaya indonesia
Bro You are vietnamese, if you have a chance and a time please review Indonesian's sleeper first class and panorama train you will have amazing experience.
Service and politeness is non existence in Vietnam.
It is non existent towards people who are not white, same as in Thailand. They are very nice towards white people, but not to other races.
I had a screaming match with the ticket lady from Sapa to Hanoi over their stupid antiquated hand written ticket system. My friends had to tell me to back down.
I was fortunate enough to meet an older lady in Hà Nội during the 30th anniversary of reunification. She had fought against many but had no animosity towards myself. I think like most interactions it depends on the individual.
It’s an experience. It’s not meant to be the Orient Express. There’s worse trains in Europe.
Ready to shake your body for 15h bro, Train will be rocking 😆
😂
Better than steam train!
It's just like sovyet union train. I've tried sleeper train in russia and it looks exactly the same like Vietnamese train
Interesting! Must be the old school desgins, no emotions just purpose haha
Friendly chap @ 2.39 of the video 🤣
Indeed 😅
"Ngon chứ không phải "Nhon Nhon" nghe ngộ lắm e
Damn! I don't know if I could deal with that "1st class" accommodation for that many hours. It was funny when your first "roommates" left and you started liking the lower bunk just to go back to the upper bunk hahaha! The ending is awful riding in the back with your luggage on your lap... I hope you made it to your destination safely... by the way, what happened to Ms. Wendy? I haven't seen her in the last 2 plus this video... did she go back to Australia?
Yep she’s back in Australia now
Thats a terrible experience and with that price tag, which is really expensive for normal Vietnamese but Tu and the Aunties at the end were nice at least
At least you have seat no, i bought train ticket in berlin with almost 100 euro without seat no and the hbf staff said it was free seating and i endup sat on the floor...😂😂
Damn that’s fun 😅
Chào mừng bạn đã đặt chân lên lãnh thổ VietNam
Okay, 6 minutes into this vlog and I won't be travelling on a train in Vietnam 😮
WHY not book the entire cabin for yourself & have a fiesta...ev'rything goes in nam!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well.... now that's not a bad idea actually 🤪🪅🥳🍻
This is a bit different than Laos train.
Comparable to train in Japan and Singapore huh. 59$ that is like1.5 million vnd, about almost 1 week average salary for a worker in VN. That's really expensive for a 70 years old train-ticket
I wonder if they have two tier prices, if you are a tourist, you pay more than a local. It's like this in Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia, per my personal experience.
Oh yeah tell me about it. It's like hen you walk into a restaurant, they do give you a menu but it's a different menu, and they act like all legitimate.
Me and my gf did the exact same thing iin 2018 haha private two bed next time for sure
Yeh the vip 2 bed one would be best haha
Omg, like jail
For 60US it doesn’t seem worth it. Better fly next time.
It was good to experience it and share but I’d definitely catch a flight next time haha
Nice to try experience it first first time…,nice window view…but too rocky and noisey to sleep
Is smoking allowed on VN trains?
I’m not sure, didn’t see anyone smoking but can’t recall signs saying not to either

Thank you!
You've just gotten yourself a new subscriber/fan.
Cheers

David, u call everyone Aunty or Uncle, why is this? Great content by the way 🇮🇪
As a Vietnamese kid growing up I always had to call people Aunty or Uncle, so it’s naturally stuck with me as I’ve gotten older
Ur train looks cleaner than d overnight from sapa in 2019. Luckily I was so exhausted I slept. They appeared to think Singaporean seniors can do d same things as young caucasian backpackers!
Take the silver plane ✈️ back. Gross.
Sharing a sleeper with a bunch of people you don’t know? Um no thanks😂
😂
I wanted to be adventurous but I think I change my mind…restroom is my break deal 😅. Anyway love your video and your vibes. I was planning to take a sleeper night train from Saigon to Nha Trang with my husband and a 4 years old. I’d rather wear diapers for all my family crews 😅 if I decide to take the train.
They have a new VIP cabin with only 2 beds which seem nice, but they rest isn’t the smoothest of rides haha
2nd
1st
That looked like fun
Not!!!
so dark... i mean inside the train during daylight; i don't know, i would opt out and grab an economy class train. man your bunk is even smaller than my bunk on the us navy ship. that room, though, don't know; hopefully, you did not paid an arm and a leg for it. dude, i would hate to be in that small room when everyone has a fart party (sorry can't help, i have been saving that for some time...) and you are on the top bunk, hot-air rise like the balloon ride back in vang vieng.
Definitely was the smoothest experience for transportation haha, but not too expensive thankfully for a 16 hour ride
It’s a terrible train and no service at all 😢
Yeah did not enjoyed my viet train 🚂 experience… never again
you look like a younger version of Calvin Bui. FKN Deliciousness.
but i was cheap
1:14 wtf was that??? He's so weird
1st class? Jesus!
I know right 😅
FIRST CLASS Trains In Vietnam Are NOT What You Think
There's nothing in Viet nam that would ..... what you think, NONE. It's all propaganda. Name one thing that consider as you would think it's true in Viet nam
Saigon virtually no masks. Hanoi, crap loads of masks… What can I say?
Why would you ride on that communist POS train? Especially when Vietnam Airlines, which flies to basically every hamlet in Vietnam, is dirt cheap, even in first class.
