The episodes to Are You Afraid of the Dark were some of the most terrifying childhood memories that some of us still remember to this day! Some of the most vivid ones are of course the the clown, the doll house and short stack episodes... shiver

It was a clown and you are right, it was frightening, normally I like clowns and think of them as jolly, funny, cute people who throw custard pies everywhere but THAT clown looked like Coco the clown gone nasty.

Yeah, back then, even though we were scared, we still dared to dive into horror for the thrill of it. Nowadays, kids are like "Mommy it's too scary. Why is Halloween so scary?" Pansies. They wouldn't know scary if it crawled up on their heads and then down to their face.

@@jonathantapia9546 Oh come on! The 90s is not the only era where all children has great childhoods. In the 80s they have Poltergeist, The Dark Crystal, Return of Oz. Many of these have been scaring kids for ages too you know. And also kids today are not pansies! Sure some of them are but they're not stupid! You guys should not make assumptions about kids always being scared because there are kids out there now that likes to be scared too you know, the kids in your times is basically the same in every era! Some kids like to be scared and some kids are scaredy cats! It's not really that different.

What the frick happened to Nickeldeon? Today, I'm ashamed of it. And you know when I was a kid and a teen they used to have such epic shows on. Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, Real Monsters, The Wild Thornberries, Rocket Power, Rocko's Modern Life, CatDog, Danny Phantom, My Life as a Teenage Robot, All Grown Up!, ChalkZone, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius, Invader Zim, The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, As Told by Ginger. Spongebob Squarepants and The Fairly Oddparents are very lucky to still be around today. I would love to see all of these return again, hopefully as sequels, or even as T.V. sequel movies like they've been doing.
BOT 2 I personally think Spongebob took Nickelodeon down. I stopped watching it after the third season. It’s been on now for way to long. Shows get boring when you drag them on. Thank god for Nick Splat so we can continue to watch our childhood favorites. Double Dare is coming back from what I hear also. Glad that people can still watch Are You Afraid of the Dark on CZcams and I also saw on their Instagram that in 2019 there will be a AYAOTD movie!
Yes, IKR. I don't get Nickelodeon anymore so I'm not sure if I would get the Splat channel? Yes, I heard about that. I loved AYAOTD when I was little. I can't wait to go see the movie. I'm thinking about buying the Nick shows on DVD sometime. If I do Spongebob it will probably be last. Like you I found it growing so fricking annoying as it continued. Before I had to give up the channel I briefly returned it again, just to watch the Legends of The Hidden Temple movie. I used to play the game in elementary school so I wanted to see the film. I was planning to see Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie that next November, but sadly that's when me and my family had to give up the channel. But, I hear it's on DVD, so I'm glad I can still buy it.

For some reason, the only part that scared me was the zoom in on the doorknob. Don't ask why that scared 5 year old me, I don't know either.
The empty swings and I didn't think about it 'til I re-watched the episodes again last year but, the children laughing I find creepy. Because in the empty setting it makes you feel like their ghosts.

I had a whole ritual for 2 hour Nick marathons on Sat nights in the early 90s. I think it was this, Clarissa Explains it all, the Roundhouse or something (some SNL variety show for kids), annnnnnnnd another half hour show I'm forgetting (probably wasn't as good as the other three).

Played at nine in my town. I used to watch YTV at 7h00. Firstly, we had Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then Goosebumps back to back, and Are You Afraid of the Dark to finish it off.

I just love the beginning with the boat rocking and the swings swinging.... BUT with nobody in them.. That used to creep me out the most. It was just all weird and ominous.

This show was the greatest growing up this intro would scare you every time ... classic and I definitely look back at this as the reason why I love horror films it made it fun to be scared. one episode that left me shook till this day was the one where the kid gets stuck in the mall, in a huge pinball game and if I remember he gets crushed by the pinball in the end.
He sees the giant ball as he is now small enough to be in the machine, but he doesn't get crushed. Gary, who's telling the story, says that he knew he'd be playing forever. This story is the only reason my parents rented the old TRON movie. They thought I would like it due to it's storyline, but it was a bore.
that's my childhood right there.

I've been going through all the old intros/theme-songs of the shows i used to watch as a kid. I'm graduating school this year and it's saddening to think that my childhood is basically gone, but I'm happy to know that i grew up in the 90's.
Its a strange feeling, as i kid i was scared but also amused by this intro. It gives me chills even today.
This show premiered on Nickelodeon the year I was born, which is pretty cool since this was one of my favs but some of the eps can still spook me out to this day

I think the opening was the creepiest part of the entire show. I never really got into it as a kid but I sometimes watched it. Plus it was on past my bedtime. The fan in the window makes me laugh now because I used to be afraid of this big-ass floor fan that I had in my room, mainly because of the noise it made. First episode I remember seeing is The Tale Of the Final Wish. I had just turned 4 and that freaked me out. My grandma was babysitting and for some reason she let us watch it. hahahahaha.
This intro never really scared me but it was just the stories that would creep me out!

I remember that one intro where the door is trying to be opened from the other side. Gave me chills.
I was so excited when I heard this melody as a kid. I thought I was weird, because all of my friends would get nervous when the show would come on, but inside I was like "YES!". They would all reach for the remote. I pretended to be freaked out so I wouldn't get picked on for liking it, but then I would leave and run home to watch it. I remember wishing that my friends were cool enough to put together our own midnight society, but my friends were a bunch of cowards.
Just realized they probably put the shows with creepy intros on like 'Goosebumps' and 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' so we would sprint off to bed.

I absolutely LOVED this show when I was a little kid. I watched it ALL THE TIME!! This was the number one best show ever on Nickelodeon!! No other show can beat it!! I also used to love to tell ghost stories around a campfire when I was little.
