The grouse was responding to your " drumming" on that stump .... You are demonstrating the grouse's mating ritual. I have watched them doing that.
Thank you for the video ... I have some huckleberry wood that I am going to make a spoon with.

Thanks for including the tip about spoon bowl depth. I've watched many spin carvers over the years, and you're the first to add that bit of wisdom.

I am new to spoon carving and really enjoyed this video. It was informative and each step explained very well. The length was just right. I love nature and the partridge showing up looking for a mate was nature at its best. Having your cat come to show you his love and support was a perfect addition to the video. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to what comes next. Have a great week! 😊🇨🇦

Brother Canterbury. I spotted a tattoo you have on the right hand. Im happy to see you are a brother of the craft. I used to shoot OSTA back in the late 90s and i know you were there at the time. Back when Hoot was the president. I've followed you for years and before your stint on TV. But now that i saw the tattoo many things makes sense and explain a lot about who you are. /G\

That was awesome Dave thanks! As far as the length of the video well I'll tell you what it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as I'm learning something I'll sit there for 2 hours if it takes that to learn something or to refresh my memory. I generally watch every one of your videos but I don't always comment on all of them. I'm starting to get a little older now and it's getting harder and harder to stay out as long as I would like to but I ain't going to lay down till they put me in the ground, well not necessarily put me in the ground because I'm going to be burnt I do not want all that dirt on top of me. Thanks again Dave I really did enjoy this!

😊thanks Dave, nice work and great guest😅 I started making spoons the beginning of 2021, I learn new things every day, another 6/7 years I’ll be a spoon maker. Is making spoons bushcraft? Well I can tell you that 4 times I either forgot my utensils or I accidentally burned them and had to make utensils in the field😮😢 making utensils in the field is bushcraft when done on the spot 😊take care.

Dave, this is some practical fun whittling. When I think of a single spoon, I think of the one that the late Army Colonel David Hackworth, he of the 10 Silver Stars, always carried in a shirt pocket. A tool for obtaining various meals "on the run." Your rounding blade is definitely helpful for hollowing. I have considered an equine hoof knife for such carving, but I think the blade needs some modification for ideal spoon shaping. You mention birch, echoing my thoughts about an ideal spoon wood. Lots of that in the Yukon Territory in many places, & Alaska, too. Hard, smoothing, & often durable. Wondering of the cat considered adopting the possibly orphaned bird (was it a Ringneck pullet?).
