Old vid, I know. Heheh. Has to comment regardless. Great and fun video! Felt like I was right there with you! Thanks for that. 🙂 S&W:WB seemed to be so wonderful but was missing so much. OD&D itself, I adore, but difficult to use for me practically. When Charlie Mason released this in 2017 my prayers had been answered! It’s one of my #1 ‘go-to’ games along with B/X, RISUS and FF (specifically the outstanding lil clone of the first FF into RPG, Spellzard!…you might really dig that by the way). I love the lower, flatter power curve of the numbers overall. It’s nice that a +1 really means something. Heck, even items such as, say, Glamdring or Excalibur might be as simple as +2 or +3 and never beyond. I love that! I and my players have found it super easy and fun to just scratch out a PCs background in a few key words or a short sentence or two. That way…. If a thief was raised in a rural area, or a fighter grew up learning farming, a magic user grew up growing herbs…. Or much more besides…. Whenever it may be relevant to the game, roll a dice and you’ll get a bonus! Fun. I’ve had thieves who had a background in being scribes (helpful for reading, documents and forgery), a thief who was previously an actor (disguise, lying, performing), a fighter who studied monster lore as a young person (I’m sure ya know how useful that was!), and others. No skill system….no system at all. No added weight, but a lot of useful and fun stuff for everyone at the table! Maybe I’d use the saving throw, maybe an attribute check, maybe a 50/50 d6 roll with a +1 bonus, but also…maybe no roll at all! Fun all ‘round! Cheers, man! Thanks again. 🙂
you prolly dont care at all but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Jagger Owen Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I've just started with this for my family, and yes, it's really cool! White Star is a great Sci-Fi/Fantasy version too if you're into that. Thnx for this vid that I found after a while from your channel. 👍
@@paultice I have my copy now and its a tidy package. I don't have enough victims (players) to force it on and my twice monthly tabletop game is D&D5e. My players are not grognard enough to want to play old-skool but I hope I can put them through at least a one-shot.
This looks like a fun system. Which would you say is the simpler, more stripped-down, easiest to pick-and-go rpg (for someone who is not exactly an experienced GM): White Box or Basic Fantasy? OR something else altogether?
Yes, it's just the rules, spells, monsters, magic items. You can download the pdf for free so you can check it out www.drivethrurpg.com/product/190631/White-Box--Fantastic-Medieval-Adventure-Game
I just saw your other video were you are playing solo, love the idea of creeping through a dungeon and pull some cards to check what's in there. I'm buying it, my son will love it and i also love the nostalgic artwork of the oldschool games. Thank you very much for your reviews!

Yes indeed, this is a gem. I think you would like Delving Deeper as well.
Absolutely adore white box. Probably my favorite OSR.
Mine too.

@Jagger Owen It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account !
I opted for the coloured dragon cover. It's a great book. You may like the Black Pudding OSR zines on DTRPG.
My absolute favorite version of Whitebox. Great stuff! Would love to see a few games of this Paul if you're up for it. ;)
Yep! 😀

Dex of 4. I know the feeling! Rushing out to buy a copy, looks like a nice set of rules.
I really like it 🙂

Looks awesome,
I love this game, so well put together. Great video!
Thanks, Bruce 😀
Oh and PLEASE run a game of this, I'd LOVE to play!
@@brucec1710 I'd love to get back behind the screen after almost 20 years, especially with White Box 😁
@@paultice I'm sure we could get a few of the gang together for a one shot! Maybe we could even shoot a video?
Nice review! Please do some gameplay. 🙏
Will do 😀
Check out Chronicles of the Outlands or Conrad's Fantasy from Better Games. They are on drive thru. Use Tarot Cards.

Hi. They are both great and the PDFs are both free, but I think White Box is just that bit more stripped down.
Hi, love all the artwork and the oldschool aspect, but if i buy this it will give me just a set of rules and not an adventure to run it right?

@@blamp666 Yes, that's it. Charlie Mason and Seattle Hill Games.
How does it play solo Paul?
I will do a playthrough, but the encounter tables look really useful.
Where did you find those d6's?
I got them from The Dice Shop Online www.thediceshoponline.com/koplow-opaque-ivory-bone-18mm-d6-spot-dice
@@paultice Thank-you =)
Nice review, but you should ditch those 6-sided dice ;)
