    Every time I listen to this piece I'm amazed at the nuance and articulation Bob puts into it. He's a phenomenal horn player!

    I love Bob Havens. I love his playing and I love him he always sounded so wonderful and special and he was such a great talent I just lived to hear every note from the trombone. Always in my heart and mind 🎵🎶⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️

    He plays in a band in keokuk iowa occasionally nowadays. He still has it lol

      Thanks for the info. I live in eastern Iowa and would love to see him while we're both still around! I think he's from Quincy, Illinois, down the big river some miles from Keokuk.

    @tromboneJTS Bob is my favorite too!! There is an old black and white clip of Jack Teagarden doing this song and at the end he says "I'm going to take a TRAMbone coda". Must be where Bob got the idea for the Cadenza and I've read Jack was Bob's hero.

    Whenever Bob had a chance to do a solo (way too few sadly) he definitely made the most of it! Such an underrated trombone player, he would have been successful no matter what band he played in.

    It is obvious from his trombone playing that Bob Havens was was a fan of Jack Teagarden. Both were great musicians.

      Quinn Parker,, I know this is old post but had to agree with you, Big T was absolutely like non other. Notice how all T-bone players have to use the slide all the way in the low notes and for vibrato, Jack started playing so young that his little arms at the time couldn't reach that length so he developed it all with armature keeping the slide close to the top!
      I heard it said that if Big T walked into a club Tommy Dorsey or Glenn Miller had a ruff time performing in front of the king!

    I think Bob came to Lawrence Welk from Big Al Hirt's band. He's featured on Hirt's Pier 49 (?) alvum. Monster player.

    His is a very good trombonist - that is for sure. However, I guess Mr. Welk never got a chance to meet or hear Bill Watrous, Urbie Green, or Carl Fontana🙂
