I would say that tags have no meaning in the software industry; only skills matter. I think as a country, we are too obsessed with imagined hierarchies. What matters is which company you work in and how much change did you bring about.

Can you brief about why some Product based companies don't prefer people from service based companies in software domain, is the trend existing still now, does having an IIT/NIT/IIM/IIIT tag matters or skills matter in the long run and opportunity perspective?

I never heard of the non preference, but I might not be getting the context. For me service means customized solutions targeting individual client . Product is where, something can be build/sold in scale. If you noticed non-preference, then might have been for roles where you are expected to build for scale. As a customized solution provider, scale is often the last thing on mind and resume. So, if you are a solutions engineer who never build a scalable backend and were trying for such product roles, it will be difficult. I would suggest to not think in the neat boxes like category A vs category B, rather think how your existing skills match with the requirements for the job. Careerbolt has a bunch of videos on that point. Currently software engineering is among the most democratic of roles. If you got the skills you will make it. That said, there will be companies/teams/individuals who prefer to be undemocratic, then it's good that you don't work with them. Regarding brands: Skills matter and your attitude matters. Brands are marketing ploys- definitely has some short term value, but none in the long run.

Service based companies do not train people on all the skills product companies want. Tags rarely matter, other than land you in front of an interviews. Only real demonstrable skills (as defined in JD) matters.
