- A new side of Barney the Dinosaur is being shown in a new documentary. “I Love You, You Hate Me” is a new limited series on Peacock which explores the, “rise and fall of Barney the Dinosaur’s furious backlash and what it says about the human need to hate.”

As a child (and still today) I always thought it was weird how so many adults had so much hatred towards a loving and positive, yet fictional character. Truly bizarre.
The more hyped up and trendy something is, the more hate it’s going to get.
It happened to Dora The Explorer, Twilight, High School Musical, Glee, and many others.
Facts. I can imagine Light Yagami showing up in this Barney-based Documentary.

@@TCakes in the 90s and early 2000s we used to sing Barney parody songs on the bus. Many with pretty graphic lyrics and we were friggin kids ages 10 and below. It was this reaction to how we thought Barney was a "babies" show. Looking back now I see how naive we were.
Just because people didn’t watch Barney and didn’t learn how to love and let people live their lives. I remember having to keep it a secret in second grade that I still watched Barney. Or I would’ve been an outcast

@Debra Lynn Paxton well said Debra I used to watch Barney with my kids when they were younger I could never understand how the 3 of them were so quiet when it was on tv it’s because they enjoyed the show, I could get on with the housework cook dinner and sit with them as they ate from their dinner trays on their snack tables watching Barney, it seems nothing lasts forever as there’s always some way to drag good tv shows for kids down a path most never come back from how awful😞

Never underestimate what kids do behind closed doors when their parents or friends aren’t around to judge them.
I was never aware of these wild accusations. I loved Barney even when I was older I always thought Barney was great for the kids.
My younger sisters loved Barney, his voice annoyed me, but he was a positive thing in their lives.

I just remember the movie 'Nine Months' and how Tom Arnold bashes up a Barnie lookalike called Arnie in the Toy Store. He probably encapsulated a lot of people's feelings in that scene.

I like this documentary because it also showed the history of Barney and the positives despite the fact that the anti Barney hate was the main focus. It also made some people realize that Barney bashing while meant to be funny could also be hurtful

I hate Barney too, always have. Even as a little kid, I thought he was annoying and stupid as hell. However, I would never tell the people who worked on the show that I was going to ‘find them and kill them.’ People have sad lives if they’re wasting their breath on a hatred for a snappy imaginative dinosaur.

I didn't know that Barney got so much hate because when I was a kid I loved watching the show even my friends loved watching the show even my preschool teacher loved the show I remember she would always play an episode of Barney because she wanted us to watch the show so that we can learn how to be creative. I even let my little kids watch Barney if they wanted to watch Barney I let them watch him because I want them to learn how to be creative as well but I never knew that Barney was getting a lot of death threats behind the scenes

Barney was too happy all the time, too fake. My kids were born in 2006 and 2008. I preferred them to watch Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba, and Mr Rogers. Even hDora was better! I didn’t “hate” Barney persay, I just felt it was so happy, it was unrealistic

With so much hate and negativity in this world, why is it bad to have a character who is 100% positive and loving for 26 minutes out of the day? Barney taught me that even though the world is crude and mean, there’s still room for me to be happy. Well..I remember it being solely for children. A neice was hooked..he monopolized the TV. For years. We were all bumped off whenever she was around because of him. When she grew out of him more kids came along and this went on for years. Blues clues...Sesame street..the Muppets, Mr Roger's, Bluey..all were tolerable and sometimes enjoyable. Barney was painful. It did is job and it was very good at it but it pushed the rest of us out of the room. That's experience.

I think the only bad idea is having little kid child actors. We all know the only reason they had the part was because of their annoying parents from LA who were forcing them to have a 9-5 at the age of 6.
