In year 2046, this thing will look as retro as the NES is today. In 30 years progress, the technology of this will be smaller, optimized, and more powerful, meaning AR headsets will be the size of ordinary eye glasses and possibly contact lenses years later. And they will be as mainstream and essential to living in the times as smartphones are today.

30 years later, people would use an upraded version of this thing. But I fear apple will make a low feature crap and call it iLens, and make it look awesome, and thin, and everybody switches to that, and Microsoft remain where they are now. I wish Microsoft dominate this Lens market forever, (like they are doing for the PC Os market).

+Caleb Bailey Look up the book feed. (Read it too if you want) It seems like the perfect prediction of what our future will probably be like in 40-60 years. Spring break field trips to the moon, computers implanted into our brains from birth, and mass hackings that leave people brain dead, replacing guns with hacking tools. That will likely be our future in 60ish years

+Deeya Kaur actually there are some levels of encryption that are unbreakable. as in your thoughts. your brain is essentially one giant intracate network of electrical impulses. a computer with bianry code. therefore "hacking" through this level of encryption. although other means of infiltration are possible.

No it's completely different. For starters, the 3D is much better. The resolution is also much better for the graphics. The real world itself also looks infinitely better since it is the actual real world, not one seen through a camera. Last but not least hololens actually maps the world around you. 3DS just uses your world as a background for a spherical game.

Hey, the reason for the pixilation and the bad frame rate or the hololens was simply because they actually had to plug this into a special pc to record this with a screen recorder, where as in a demo by Microsoft they are using specially built cameras that are really expensive to record the use of the device. Also, the device they are using here is a development edition for the general public, where as Microsoft will be using the absolute latest prototype builds. The finished product will be much better than what is seen in this video!

But if you like buying any games you want, I think you'll refrain from getting W10 and just stick with Steam for your PC games. UWP is a disaster and even Gabe Newell and the CEO of Epic Games are speaking against it, among others.

This is due to the headset having a small field of view and a slower refresh rate than I’d say it should have. But if you can’t wait I highly recommend a VR headset (HTC Vive or Oculus) to get started with different realities.

I'm a developer AND a realist. The FOV problem is what for the most part will limit the sales of this product. (And perhaps its price, but that's totally understandable and not something that really can change) No one wants to experience holograms in a small rectangle. I could imagine myself using this (if the quality and color feedback is fine, which I'm told it is) with a mouse and keyboard, then using the hololens as big monitors,or maybe a large TV in the couch watching a movie. I want to do neither of those with a limited FOV. Never

Think of mobile phones and all their processing power, screen resolution and overall in functionality in 2006 compared to them in 2016 - A top end smartphone reaches the raw power of an average consumer computer from 2006 while acing it in functionality.
I am super excited for AR and VR technologies, the stuff we see today is so basic compared to what we will see in 10 years.

    • @antdx316
      @antdx316 Před 8 lety

Michael James I agree. Nvidia is releasing a new architecture later this year which is like way higher in scale than their previous generations at time frame segments.
The manufacturing and engineering is there but they keep milking and drawing out the money milking machine. The graphic processing engineers probably found out the potential of VR and don't want to keep drawing it out for too long. Say they have the plans for 20 years but then they cut it to 10 and because the demand is so high for VR people will have no problem investing in top-end computing graphic processing capability so they invest as much as smart phones every year or 2 then the actual plans get inflated to 40 years as you could never go too fast in VR because more immersion would exist but the reality is, it will happen.

It has been confirmed that the actual release price will be far below this price range, and more on par with the surfaces price, so as not to make it look like a luxury item. If you want to see true quality specs with the latest hardware and software, then check out the Microsoft demos which will show the true quality and sleekness of the device. What bugs me is that all the footage they use from FPV shows the entire FOV (Field of view) being populated which isn't really what you see. When you use the device IRL only a small square 'like a small TV' is in the middle of your view that has AR stuff rendered then it just gets cut off at the edges, so to see everything you have to constantly be scanning the little box around. I really wish that Microsoft would show this in the demo videos and people that reviewed it would do the same. Everyone that asks me about it always says 'It's so cool because the whole room has stuff floating in it but they don't realize only the small box in front of you does and the rest of your peripheral vision is just the room with no AR and the random things coming into the FOV and leaving the FOV of the box is pretty annoying. If this device had a full FOV like an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive it would be beyond amazing. Also, the image you see isn't fully solid like it shows in the demo videos, you can actually still see through even a solid object (be it only a little bit) so that also takes away from the experience.

We are building a 20 dollar hololens which uses your smartphone. Anyone here who likes to test it when it's done? We have RAW-video footage on our channel. Remember, this is not a replacement for an hololens, it's just a method to get in touch with Holograms. Just like Google Cardboard: It isn't the same experience as oculus or HTC Vive, but it is a cheap alternative that gives the VR experience.

I think it has potential if the whole field of view is used and if the graphics were to improve. I would honestly prefer this over a VR headset for day to day activities. VR headsets are great for games and interactive experiences, but the HoloLens would be better for other tasks besides just gaming. Basically, I want to be able to see the world around me for most activities that don't require complete immersion.

I can see allot of people falling down the stairs because they are watching a video or e mailing. It already happens with phones

Once this technology is perfected down the road (may take a LONG time), just imagine how awesome games would be. An immersive FPS experience would be breathtaking.

Well of course those are more virtual. They're definitely much more refined at the moment but I'm talking about an augmented experience using real locations that you're already in.

+Seth Garrett I think that AR would be cool to expand social activities and "mix a bit" the real world with the virtual world. but Im not really sure about the gaming experience... I think would be better that AR games feel more like a mini-games that a higher experience...
(nothing good used to happen when you mix games and real life) Maybe would be good years later, when the society understand and educate their citizens better about this technology, but not today)

Question - how does it do darker than background overlays? I can understand how it adds light but how does it block light? Also does it allow focusing on different points like the magic leap or is it a fix plane like the google glass?

Any idea how this feels wearing the HoleLens 2 all day? Comfortable or uncomfortable? Too heavy? Or are they good to wear?

    HaloLens Review:
-Tutorial - very informative (Also very annoying)
-A.I. Voice - should be able to modify the voice to your liking with add-on voices, say for example I wanted to hear Cortana's voice instead or if I got tired of her voice, I could switch it to Quentin Tarantino's voice. That would be a very nice feature.
-Typing - you should be able to have a wireless Bluetooth keyboard that can connect to your HaloLens and be used as the keyboard to type with while you continue to look on the screen. tapping at the screen all the time could be really annoying when it comes to typing if it doesn't have that feature well refined.
-Speakers - not sure if the speakers are only able to be heard by the user only or if they're speakers that could be heard by everyone around you as well. If so, they should add a feature where you can turn on or off the speakers on the outside for everyone else to here what your listening to in order to keep things more private. They can also add a way for other wireless headphone users to connect to the HaloLens via Bluetooth and a screen should pop up asking you whether or not you want to give them permission to listen to what you are listening to. Also maybe make a noise cancelling version as well to not be disturbed by outside noise say if you're using your HaloLens via Wi-Fi on a plane or a Personal Hotspot while on commute.
-Tracking - they should make it possible to use a tracking system while you walk, run, or even while driving make a grid kind of like how the air force uses for their pilots when flying a jet to help you with driving or even backing up or even speed as it connects to the car system via Bluetooth. That would definitely promote more safety. Of course while driving it should turn off the ability to use any other media to keep you focused on the road.
That's all the developing ideas I have for it for now.

Where is the source regarding the FOV not changing for consumers? Is this a MS quote?
