Jaki Liebezeit was the most underrated drummer this planet has ever witnessed.

At least he was the only one of the gang, who was able to do standalone hypnotics of a crowd with his drumset.
He did not speak much, he spoke thru his Drums.

He was mesmerising live, he was like in a trance and always looked troubled..saw them live twice in 74, jaki never smiled once! Irmin was very open to the audience and Caroline was just pretty well stoned, him and irmin came out for the encore both with great big joints.

@@davideveson1049 Well observed. I met him very often in the rehearsal rooms, and even when he smiled, or made a joke, it seems to me as if he was traumatized. possibly by the circumcision, possibly that he wondered how he escaped the HC or the Dresden mass murder bombing. I assume from his obituary that he was born as a Yid.
There is an biography book in German but I don't read it. i am pretty sure that the authors ar not very deep diggers.

I saw the Damo Suzuki Network here in Seattle, back in `98 Karoli was there too. The second set, they started off with the first part of Peking-O and segued into this. INCREDIBLE. The opening act accompanied them with their sound effects. Both bands were excellent. Happy to have had the chance to catch Karoli, before he left our world.

willieboy3011, you see that in every live video from late 60's, early 70's, whether it is Janis Joplin going off, Frank Zappa, or say Billy Thorpe in Australia, seems they were too reserved, didn't have the gift of hindsight to realise what they had, how lucky they were, and how soon the best times ever for music would soon disappear forever, they would get up and boogie for disco later in the decade, but as FZ said, they were too adagio

listening to Can in 1970 is an individual thing: some like it and some not. For those who don't were spotting a female hash pipe. The others won't even notice that they were smelling that precious smoke and blow their minds. Can concerts always filled with joy.

I saw Jessamine around 1997 open up for Holger when he was touring his techno show with his lady U-She. She sang her stuff and a couple Velvet Underground tunes with Holger and some musicians backing her, then he did his thing, with her, and Jessamine opened that night. The Damo show was around the next year. I forget who the guys I mentioned in my other post were, weren't Jessamine. This was a duo. Weren't bad, just the name escapes me now.

Just another TV rent-a-crowd. Momentous performance- audience just nice middle class college kids who don't understand. They're used to chart pop- or Deep Purple at best. Young, clueless... wrong audience. There's one guy who's ecstatic... Loves it, he's flipping out and trying hard to wake them up. As for suggestion that they're stoned. No! Everybody had long hair back then- it was normal; but most wouldn't dare take drugs. I've lived, awhile, I know these things

I appreciate your perspective here. They really did not know how to market music back then and sorta lumped all the genres vaguely youth-oriented under the same umbrella, which is how you got Hendrix opening for the Monkees and liner notes for psychedelic LPs reading like Tiger Beat articles. Rent-a-crowd - yeah - doesn't add much does it?

I myself can hear some resemblance on the sound. It feels like the Doors had similiar ideas, to me it feels that krautrock took it way further though, being a bit more experimental and gravitating further away from the blues influence present on most rock (which might be due to Stockhausen influence?).
