Are Humidors from Amazon Any Good?

  • Recently, I got a great question about Amazon humidors. This was during an episode of Cigars Daily LIVE, and it gave me the perfect opportunity to give people a look inside the construction of humidors as you will find them in most places today. It's not exactly what everyone expects to hear... but it is the chilling truth.

Cigar smoking is a bit of a tradition in my family. I'm the 6 or 7th generation. And a small collection of antique humidors. Some I use, the 1 I don't use is bcuz the copper lining was soldered with lead soldering, personally not gonna risk destroying the wood to remove the copper lining and old soldering

My first humidor was that one from Amazon. But with the tray in the top. I wound up with that one, 3 tupperdors, and boxes full of Ziplock bags taking up most of the space under my L-shaped desk. Then my daughter got me the Audew 300ct cabinet cooler humidor this past Christmas. Gave 2 of the tupperdors to my wife and the 3rd one is now crammed full of Connecticut sticks...with a couple Ziplock bags of sticks on top of that.

This vid was f@cking great! Keep up the good stuff.
Also, for those who want to step up from a 'amazon' desk humidor and don't know where to start.
Vintage humidors can also easily be re-seasoned.
    I've personally,
    - refurbished a very old elie blue humidor.
    - taken over a waxing moon humidor, which had not been used since 2014.
but do your reseach on the seal of the humidor before you buy.
I've picked up a vintage davidoff humidor, but the seal didn't live up to the expectation.
Say you find a vintage piece, like the look, but it can't maintain humidity.
There is this trick where you put a good tuppador into a wood humidor.
    Maintaining both function and form.
it's important to invest ,so if you can, save up some extra money do it.
Your cigar collection will quickly outgrow the cost of your humidor.
And, most of all. It gives you something to look foward to, everytime you pass it in your house.
This is something a tuppador can't match, in my opinion.

My first one was exactly like that one, ordered with a sampler as a freebie from a major online cigar merchant. I couldn't understand why it kept losing some humidity. Needed to recharge the humidifier every week, in humid South Florida. Finally got another (free) one without glass. Works better, although it's not perfect. I don't mind rotating my cigars between the three that I use regularly, keeping the beads plump and recharging the Bovedas I've collected. Although I empty two of them monthly (morning and after dinner) my BEST one keeps my special, celebration cigars (Cubans, Padron, Davidoff, Graycliff) fresh for two, three years. I've been looking for this critical review, Tim. Thanks.

I wrestled with a few humidors from Amazon for a few months before finally giving up and getting some plastic Ziploc containers from the grocery store. I bought the same Humidor from Amazon, and after finally getting it seasoned properly it is rock steady at 70%. Of course if I open it, the RH plunges, and takes a day to slowly creep back from 60 to 70 again. The hygrometer is crap, so expect to toss and replace, or just put a digital hygrometer on top of the cigars so you can read it thru the glass.

OMG! I have that exact humidor in cherry finish. LOL!!! It's great for storing my stogies, but I have a smaller travel humidor I use for _final seasoning._ Generally, whenever I take a cigar out of my small humidor, I go to my cheap desktop humidor to grab replacements, based on what I'm...at that moment...most looking forward to smoking in the future. _However,_ I've recently come to realize that, with the Pacific Ocean literally five minutes from my house, I need to try letting a Boveda pack _remove_ some humidity from my desktop humidor. I've been having some draw issues lately, and I'm pretty sure it's because the local air is a bit _more_ humid that I need it to be for optimum performance. Wish me luck with the experiment.

Amazon did offer a rectangular desktop acrylic that was 1/2 the price of the over-priced Boveda and Humi-Smart acrylics. Have not seen it in over a year. I will never replace my acrylic. 2 packs will last indefinitely. When needed, I will recharge the packs in distilled water. Works fabulously. I have not bought new humidity packs in ages. The reality is that an acrylic desk top humidor (Rectangular not the cylindrical can style) is the best. You can throw in one or 2 humidity packs and they will last forever. Forever. Most desktop acrylics these days come with "Spanish" cedar trays and inserts. Amazon is merely a retailer. And using Amazon, one can order "Spanish" cedar splits to line your acrylic humidor. There is no prep work needed. Just put cigars and packs inside. People can argue about where they got their Chinese made wooden humidor all they want. If you're not paying top dollar for a craftsman produced wooden humidor... you're only paying more for what amounts to junk.

Pardon my ignorance in asking this question....
I have always watched cigar collectors and affectionados keep their cigars in humidors to protect and age their tobacco. Now my question concerns their blending the different brands in the same system box. I think by mixing the cigars in the same humidor will change the flavoring tastes by the time when one selects one to smoke. So then how can we get the true taste since each is feeding and withdrawing flavors from all the other stored in the box?
Shouldn’t each brand have its own humidor?

Has anybody smoked Pargas cigarsI got some from Mexico and I’m curious what they’re like I have not smoked on yet I just put them in my humidor yesterday

Even with more expensive humidors you will only get compressed wood.
Just buy an airtight tupperware, pop some cedar wood inside which you can find in most cigar boxes, add a humidifier and you're good to go.

Sadly in most major cigar shops these are what we have in the EU. OR I really don't know where can I find REAL DEAL humidor. What you destroyed there looks like something similar to what I have the brand is called ANGELO which looks like OEM brand because when I searched I couldn't even find an official website for this brand.

Also: again off topic - I dunno if the Chinese brown stink bug is a problem for you guys out in the West but they’re a major, major issue here on the East Coast. How can we keep those little buttholes out of our wooden humidors?! They can get through virtually any crack. The only thing they don’t get into is my tupperdor.
