I loved hearing the The Long Walk metaphor! I still haven’t read that story, but I remember being captivated when my brother told me about it many years ago. Penny is so cute! 😻
Yeah it heightened the story for me a bit knowing that, because otherwise it was sort of like…ok but what’s the point? Very impressive coming from a young Stephen King though, I’d recommend it. Thanks, Johanna 😻

Enjoyed your thoughts on The Long Walk, it’s one I’ve been wanting to read for a while. And I’m glad you finished up the Green Bone Saga! I agree, Jade Legacy was a great conclusion to the trilogy.

That’s fair - I’ll probably just let her take over the channel when she’s ready 😂 The Long Walk is interesting because you can really interpret it a few different ways. Greenbone saga is so gangster. The clan is my blood and the Pillar is its master.

Yeah I’ve heard that comparison, for sure! It was a good read - definitely a lot of meaning and room for interpretation which I always like.
Dungeon Crawler Carl narration is probably the best I’ve heard, insane that it’s just one guy doing all those voices. The story/humor wasn’t totally my taste but I definitely see why people who love it do. I haven’t decided if I’ll continue in the series yet.

Definitely - it worked. They’re around each other and Penny wants to play, but Gordon takes her in small doses. But he definitely tolerates her lol.
Penelope is so adorable!!! 🐱 I would be shocked if Green Bone doesn’t get an adaptation. Peacock picked it up a couple years ago and then they cancelled the plans. It works out good I think, since Peacock is kind of a flop IMO.

Hi Theo. Penny is a doll baby. My May was partially consumed with struggling to see well enough to read as I awaited the arrival of new glasses. I was only able to finish two books, the best-selling horror novella Nothing but Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw (Starts strong but disappoints), and Kate :The Life of Katherine Hepburn by Charles Higham (fascinating). Mood reading is how I'm rolling all the time now.

Oh man you’ve got me intrigued for the Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobook! I love wickedly talented narrators, and it sounds like fun. I’m kinda meh on Cradle so dunno if this genre is for me, but it’s worth giving another author a shot.
I definitely need to read the Long Walk, and so happy to see you keeping the Dresden train rolling. Turn Coat is the shit so can’t wait to see what you think of that one.
I need to catch up to you now with the Druss prequel and Jade Legacy!
Yeah that audiobook was fun! I’m excited to continue with Dresden as well, I know I’m getting to some of the best of it.
Definitely read the prequel, I loved Druss’ backstory.

Boy’s Life I think is one of my all time favourites now. It was brilliant in my opinion. I hope you like it as much as I did. I agree, a master storyteller…so much in fact that I just started Speaks the Nightbird. I think he’s a fav author of mine now.
I just instantly bought the Last Ronin. OMG that sounds amazing. It sounds like one of my absolute favorite TMNT episodes. Also Ben is listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl books and he's on book... 5? I think.
TMNT is what I grew up with, big part of my childhood. The Last Ronin was great 👌🏻

Kithimar 1: Age of Ash / Daniel Abraham
- I want to read this again after the next book comes out because Abraham is so good at layering and foreshadowing. But as is I really enjoyed it. Sammish stole the book for me but I also liked Alys' arc. Abraham's character work is so underrated.

Black Company / Glen Cook (re-read)
Black Company 2: Shadows Linger
Black Company 3: White Rose
- I'm glad I gave this series another chance. I appreciated Book 1 more on re-read, retried Shadows Linger and it was excellent and so was White Rose. Pretty cool seeing how this influenced the military elements of Malazan.

- It's been a bit since I last read Tchaikovsky and I'm glad I'm finally reading his Fantasy epic. BUGS!

The Wasp Factory / Iain Banks
- Banks is my personal favourite Sci-Fi author so thought I'd finally give his non Sci-Fi work a go. Pretty messed up. Still dunno how I feel about the climax and resolution though.

😺 I kind of spaced out waiting for Penny to show. Were you talking about some books? 😅 Also, today I bought a kindle paperwhite for the sole reason that I didn't want to wait for September for Brian Lee Durfee's "The Lonesome Crown" to drop in audio and it seemed pointless to own just book 3 of a series in physical format. So I'm reading that and taking breaks (not because the book is hard, but because I'm flying through it so fast that I don't want it to end) with Joe Abercrombie's "Sharp Ends." Also, I'm listening to Alastair Reynolds' "Revelation Space" on audible. I don't know what it is, but, although "Pushing Ice" had a similar vibe, something about "Revelation Space" makes it a much more dense and hard-SF read to the point that I'm literally having trouble understanding simple sentences 😂 but I heard the other books after it are a big improvement, so I'll power through the remaining 4 and a half hours.
Haha there were books somewhere in the video! I know what you mean about taking your time to defer the ending of a good book haha. Sounds like you’re having fun!

with which one of these two would recommend to start reading about Druss?
Thanks so much! I absolutely recommend reading Legend first! Check out my dedicated review for why I thought it was so special. If you’re left wanting more Druss like I was, continue with First Chronicles. I also think Legend is made better without knowing exactly what made Druss so feared and respected. The backstory should be read after in my opinion.

In May I finished «The Dervish House» by Ian McDonald, «The Little Emperors» by Alfred Duggan, «The Veiled Throne» by Ken Liu (book #3 in the «Dandelion Dynasty», it is a real chunker at about 1000 pages and I had to reread several pages and paragraphs, they are so good! 100% my favorite book of the year so far, had to jump straight into the #4 and final book, «Speaking Bones»!) and «Sailor of the Sea of Fate» & «The Weird of the White Wolf» by Michael Moorcock (anthologies in the «Elric Saga», «Sailing to the Past», «The Dreaming City» (in my POV the Centerpiece of the Tragedy of Elric!) and «Portrait in Ivory» were my favorites of the short stories). Can highly recommend checking out Julien Blondel’s Graphic Novel Adaptations of Elric!
I only bought one book, «The Children of Gods and Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless, with the very lovely red cover design! But I will get to «Bold Ascension» by Vaughn Roycroft and «The Prophet of Edan» by Philip Chase as soon as they are released!
