    I appreciate this video about how you set up your localizers individually. This is helpful because I understand that it is very confusing when you don't have good localizers due to rotation.. I struggled with the shoulder MRI on the ICU patient I will try this method next thank you so much!

    I like the workflow set up you use. My protocols are set up to take a 3 plane localizer at once and I hate it for shoulders because they are never accurate and I have to repeat. I feel like this should be a simple protocol but turns into a long scan if it’s not set up properly.

      @@Nguyen_MRI normally these patients are body builders, so big arms, could we wrap a body coil around the bicep the way you did with the flex/shoulder. Or is it better to just use a larger flex coil.

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před 4 lety

      I think it would be better to use spine 32ch combined with body 18 if having so. No wrap to cover a larger area. Place the patient all the way to the other side. Of course use cushions and protect against getting burned.

    Phase oversampling is set at 100%, in this case you could lower that, but the SNR will go down. But I don’t really understand if the image quality will decrease? Does phase oversampling increase image quality because of higher SNR?

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před 3 lety +3

      Good question. Snr or in this case phase oversampling will have a final impact on the image quality. If having low snr on a sequence you will get noise images, thereby mediocre or bad “image quality”

    Why do we use fat sat (weak) for msk studies.

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před 4 lety +2

      Good question. This all depends on what your radiologists want and prefer. Some want totally fat suppression (strong) but some prefer weak which doesn’t suppress all fat.

      @@Nguyen_MRIDo you think it is possible that in the latest software (MR XA51) the Weak and Strong options both with FatSat and SPAIR are not configured correctly? In our site, even with the weak option, the bone is as black as soot. 😮

  • @HeyIntegrity
    @HeyIntegrity Před rokem

    When you use a shoulder coil does it limit the field of view that a radiologist sees? Because I am curious that the 4 channel flex coil can also successfully expand field of view.

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před rokem

      It will cover somehow same as a shoulder coil. You’re also able to use the larger flex if having so. I wouldn’t use this coil if I had dedicated shoulder coil. A dedicated coil is faster to setup and of course being able to get better images. This approach is for sites which doesn’t have a dedicated coil. If want to see beyond the shoulder, another coil must be used.

    • @HeyIntegrity
      @HeyIntegrity Před rokem

      @@Nguyen_MRI Thanks. I think I asked the question wrong so I edited it. So if I understand better now, the 4 channel flex coil will cover same area as shoulder coil. But can also cover more field of view than the shoulder because it is larger.
      However the drawback is less clear images(in resolution) than the shoulder coil?

    • @HeyIntegrity
      @HeyIntegrity Před rokem

      @@Nguyen_MRI have you ever heard of a radiologist complain about not using a shoulder coil or heard from those centers that didn't have it?

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před rokem

      @@HeyIntegrity no I haven’t. And I have been on private practice without dedicated coils and university hospital with dedicated coils. If want to see beyond what the coil can cover, then we just need to improvise and try to solve the case somehow.

    • @Nguyen_MRI
      @Nguyen_MRI  Před rokem

      @@HeyIntegrity if having the possibilities then use dedicated coil which is easier to create homogeneous images and of course better within shorter time. More channels compare to 4ch flex. This flex is good to use if not having anything else available. I will definitely choose dedicated if possible. It not, then just need to tailor and improvise.
