    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

this little "i" ordered the Astavakra Gita a month ago and it took 3 weeks before delivery. Last week it came and i started reading. Yesterday i stopped at chapter 15 verse 4 and this one really struck me because of a meditation 1.5 week ago. This little "i" suffers from addiction and last week i had a very deep meditation where at the end tears of divine joy came, In this meditation i got rid of this "i" and due to that this space/time was gone (difficult to explain) which brought me back home for some seconds and it made me crying and smiling at the same time. But within a minute this mind came back and it's first reaction was to go to the supermarket to get alcohol. something tried to resist and i begged this Higher Self to stop it but it didn't happen. This was a turning point in definitly knowing that i'm not this body nor mind. Makes it though in a sense as well because this kind of behaviour doesn't make this life a pleasant experience, but on the otherhand it is what makes me turn inwards and i believe that it has to be Shiva that helps this "i"transform.
3 years ago there was this deep experience of oneness where the whole world including this "i" dissappeared and it was a turning point. I started studying religions like crazy but when these lockdowns came a relapse started. This relapse helped me focus how strange it may sound, instead of studying almost everything i focussed entirely on Advaita Vedanta. started with buying the Bhagavad Gita but that wasn't enough so i bought I Am/That of Nisergedatta and then the Vivekacudamani and now the Ashtavakra Gita.
When earlier today youtube announced a lecture on the Ashtavakra Gita by Swami it made me smile and when he started with chapter 15 verse 4 it almost made me cry as that was the verse i stopped at yesterday because it reminded me of this meditation last week. sorry for this long post, wanted to share this and thank you Swami. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti and much love from the Netherlands

Wow Swami Sarvapriyananda is giving us the key to enlightenment in 1.5 hrs..
15.4 till 15.11 it's the most favorite part of mine. Attachment and Detachments are the attributes of the mind.
The mind is never yours. It's an superimposition in you the pure awareness in which the entire material universe appears like a snake in a rope.
Let it rise. Let it fall. Where is the increase or decrease in you the pure infinite easeness awareness..
Consciousness is the SUBSTRATUM in which the body and mind is a dream (ever repeating cycle of birth death and rebirth). You are always free. Ever the witness and never the witnessed..

About 9-10 years ago when I was in school there was an amazing thing happened.
I love playing football/soccer to the point that I used to think about it all the time.
It happened twice. When playing football with my friends I felt estatic joy and was feeling like I have 100% concentration while playing . I could see myself play and also feel that I am in 100% control.
I can't describe it fully in word's but at that time everything seems possible. I could feel every moment with extreme detail. It happened twice as far as I remember.
I think the experience was the oneness that is described in Upanishads.
I watched a movie called ' peacefull warrior ' . There they said that every moment is extraordinary. I think I have experienced that exact thing twice. It's real and it's estatic.

With respect to the question at the end about the role of bhakti and grace in jnana, Ramana Maharshi was of course a great jnani but he was also a great bhakta. His devotion to Arunachala was all-pervading in his life. His hymns to Arunachala encompass both jnana and bhakti in a truly universal sense.
