Carnivore Diet: How To Get Enough Fat
Vložit
- čas přidán 25. 06. 2024
- This is an interesting question because the carnivore diet in its purest form is animal products, which includes mostly fat and protein.
Sure, if you think a carnivore diet should consist of white meat, like fish and chicken and turkey, then you are obviously going to have problems getting enough fat in.
That’s not the best way to do a carnivore diet. Lean meats are lean for a reason: they lack many of the essential fatty acids and minerals your body needs.
So the simplest way to get enough fat in your diet is to prioritize red meat, wild game, and fatty fish.
Bison, beef, game, salmon, sardines, clams, oysters, mussels, kippers, mackerel, duck, and anything else that is closer to the dark/red meat of the spectrum.
Opt for ribeyes and strips as your ideal meal option + maybe some whole eggs.
Consider some butter.
Then eat these nutrient-dense foods until satiety and you’ll never have to worry about fat intake again (or protein intake for that matter).
This version of carnivore will have you somewhere in the following ranges.
25%-45% of calories from protein
55%-75% of calories from fat
It’s simple as that.
Lean white meats should be a compliment to your diet, not the main course.

Can of spam, 8 tbsp of butter, omad, under 2000 cal, 20/80 fat to protein, no hunger, 20000 steps a day 😊
I appreciate this video, as I’m just starting out on Carnivore. As a 66 year old, it’s been drilled into me so long that fat is bad for you, that I have a hard time eating it. It tastes good, when cooked, but I’m psychologically thinking I’m going to have a heart attack from eating it. You’re too young to remember Susan Powter, her mantra, that she constantly repeated in her weight loss videos, was “Fat makes you Fat.” Now I know that she was wrong, but my mind still thinks I’m hurting myself🤷🏻♀️ I’m pretty sure that I’ll get over it after a while, but right now it’s hard to eat fat!
Colin, thank you so much for this video, I was literally in tears after being on Carnivore for three months and not losing any weight, I was looking for answers and most people were saying "Eat more fat." (I switched to Lion Diet almost a month on that)
Me: Well, how much fat?
Them; "60% of your calories need to come from fat"
Me: But you said don't count calories or weigh or measure, stuff yourself.
Them: "You are eating to much if you are not losing weight, you need to get more fat, get more fat, 60% of your calories should come from fat.
Me: I am so confused, eat meat, eat fat, don't eat too much, don't weigh or measure >>>> pulled out hair and cried like a baby, prayed to God about it, and then I found your video
thanks for sharing. Have you lost weight now?
I think a lot of the confusion comes from the way we're presenting the information. We need to be VERY clear that the macro break down is based on CALORIES not weight. If we just say eat 35% protein, someone could think that means 35% of the total weight of their meal. Since fat is not as dense as protein (by mass) they would have to add a ton of fat to make up the difference (i.e. 35 grams of protein with 70 grams of fat). This would result in too little protein and way too much fat. In this example someone might think that for 35 grams of protein they need to eat 65 grams of fat!
If we are careful to make it clear that we are talking about percentage of CALORIES per macro it becomes more clear. So, when we say 35% of your CALORIES should come from protein and 70% of your CALORIES should come from fat people can use that information to make a better choice in their menu selection.
Since protein is about 4 calories per gram and fat is about 9 calories per gram someone can easily calculate that 8.75 grams of protein and 7.2 grams of fat will equal about 100 calories.
If doing a strict carnivore diet, you are eating a lot of fat, 65% of calories, in fact, if hitting 35% protein. And 35% protein is at an upper tier of what most people can consume comfortably. So if if you are going based on the meal or the day percentages adjust accordingly
Thank you. I think this is more helpful than many videos I've looked at, because I really didn't understand how to calculate the fat/protein ratio.
Yes! Thank you!
I know I'm late to the party but THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm beginning carnivore and I was looking at fat vs protein and was getting frustrated about how little fat I would take in if I ate appropriately! This is wonderfully helpful, even 2-years later!
TWICE THE FAT THEN PROTEIN IS NOT TOO MUCH FAT AND MAY ACTUALLY BE A LOW FAT TO PROTEIN RATIO
Great video! Thanks 💕
Thanks for the info
BIG TMI DISCLAIMER! TO answer your question as to why I searched about getting more fat or if I am getting enough is this: my first couple months on carnivore I was doing prett high fat. My bowel movements where not too bad. Not super regular but soft. All of a sudden, I have been having constipation. I think I might have fallen off a bit on ensuring I am getting enough, but also, I have been eating fatty beef with butter the last couple days and still today, it's a problem. I haven't had bacon in a while, and I was having it prett regularly before, so I'll go pick some up and see if it helps. Anyway, one thing that I think might be happening is that my body has adapted more fully to utilizing the fat I've consumed and it has really stipped it all out to the point that my stool is hard. So, hopefully if I increase it more, my body will leave some. And I have been doing my best to get enough electrolytes and staying hydrated. I'll keep experimenting.
You are singing my song. i don't know how to keep things moving and I'm trying everything.

That is just an old saying. There really isn’t a song. It just means I’m having the same issues.

Maybe try a stool softener or some mineral oil.
Hi, Colin! I am so glad I stumbled upon your videos! Thank you for sharing this information for us newbies! I am getting started on the carnivore diet this week. I am serving overseas (Okinawa). The most difficult thing I am experiencing is that I am serving finding organic cuts of meat. Can you possibly make future videos of 1) Best places to get good beef and fats around the world and 2) the importance of fat for women's health? Thank you for all that you do! You are a true patriot! 🇺🇸
Absolutely. So I would def be eating a lot of shellfish and wild caught fatty fish. Then I'm sure you can probably find some grass-fed local beef or at least local to mainland. I dont know what the sourcing situation is like, but I get a lot of my stuff online. There are probably some in area that do the same. Ill think about this and do a video soon as well!
This was super helpful! Thank you, Colin!
Thank you, I’ve been thinking i needed to change things
Pleasure!
Just to answer your question as to why people ask this question.. personally I'm really big on carbs and sugar right now. I have pancolitis. Found this diet and figured i would try it and see if I can be one of the many success stories I'm reading. Just want to make sure I'm keeping my energy levels up and make sure I'm taking in enough facts with the meats. Thanks for the video and the information.
I am searching for how to get the proper amount fat intake if I was in a situation where protein was ample. In the wild/survival for example. Do many animals contain enough fat for human survival?
Great video btw & it's extremely helpful!
Thank you
We raise our beef and it is pretty lean. We are getting toward the end of our beef, mostly the lean cuts left.
Hi
I really like your videos can I please get your thoughts on a refeed day to help break a weightloss plateau?
Yes i like it. Def don't use it as an excuse to go crazy, but try sweet potatoes, maybe some fruit. I've been doing gluten-free pasta from time to time and love it. Anything that adds variety to your diet is likely to make you more metabolically flexible
Just began a carnivore diet and ended up with insomnia last night after eating only 93/7 ground turkey yesterday. Then I read this morning that too little fat can do that.
The reason I searched for this video is I have a freezer full of venison deer and elk. I'm going to start doing carnivore so what I am understanding is I need to put butter on my venison to get more fat out of my meal and eat eggs with it is this correct?
Thanks for the video. My question for anyone that sees this is "When eating 80/20 ground beef, do you drain it or just eat everything"?
Thank you for this video!!! I eat mainly sirloins but I always eat butter with it. I also put butter in my coffee. I eat at least two slices of raw cheese everyday. I drink raw milk... Only a couple cups a week because we get a gallon and we are a family of eight. :)
Hey Hannah, I recently started the Carnivore diet and within a few weeks it completely cured my acne, psoriasis and inflammation. The only problem is, I'm still quite new to the carnivore diet and was eating leaner meats. I think this maybe why my skin is soo dry and my hair has been brittle. Does eating more fats combat this?
@@soulsurfer639 yes it does. Eating lean meats and no animal fat is not good for you. I combat this with slathering butter on my steaks and adding fatty cuts here and there.
@@hannahzimmerman8270 Awesome, thanks soo much 🙏
Buttered coffee with 2 yolks for breakfast. Steak and usually 3-4 whole eggs or at least yolks daily. Then 2-3 chicken thighs or a thick cut boneless pork chop as my other meal. Feel great!!!
Coffee isn’t carnivore

Thanks for making this vid! I'm trying out carnivore for an elimination diet & I kept hearing that you should have a 2:1 fat protein ratio ideally, but when I look at the back of a steak the label says it's more like 1:2 fat protein. I'm worried I'm not getting enough fat and too much protein? Also is it bad to eat too much protein versus fat? Thx :)
How come he hearted your comment but didn’t respond?
@@ryanthepianoman27 because some ppl can’t be saved
Yes you can get very sick by eating more protein then fat. If you feel sick just eat more fat!
I pan fry 85/15 beef burgers in beef tallow and spoon the tallow onto the burgers, which makes it tastier. I am going to pour the tallow left in the pan into a sauce dish and dip the meat in it. Good flavor.
@@pilgrimlady8196 I’m in college so I order 8 cheeseburger for (technically) free! Idk what the fat ratio is hopefully not too lean.
I'm constantly getting constipated on the Carnivore diet, though I eat extra butter. Now I'm wondering if I should reduce my intake of protein a little and increase my intake of fat. Having said that I am struggling to eat much more butter. For example, I can eat a mouthful of ribeye steak and a bite of butter, and I can eat butter by itself a little. Not sure what to do after this. How else can I up the intake of fat without feeling nauseous? Would appreciate your suggestion(s).
Same boat
What you’re missing is like me .. 2400 calories a day is my plan. 150g or protein leaves 200g fat to hit my macros .. that’s the issues
Been on carnivore since Christmas 2022. Did it for health reasons. In addition I have lost 30 lbs. One of the benefits has been that I no longer have any problems with IBS. I have had issues with it such I was a kid. Eating no or low carbs on carnivore I no longer have to worry about it. My issue at this time is that I have continued to lose weight and don’t want to lose anymore. I’m 72 and have been loosing muscle tone. I’m very active. After watching your video I know that I probably am not eating enough fat. Sounds like I need to eat less chicken which is t a problem.
Hey doesn’t zero fibre make ibs-c worse? Especially at start. How much time did it take for your gut to get used to it and have proper bm ?
Increasing fat intake on a carnivore diet won't stop you losing weight.
@unknownmr5718 Considering the fact that IBS is what they diagnose when they don't know what's wrong, there is no definitive answer as to what makes it worse or better in general. It depends on the individual.
Soooo long shot that you answer this but several sources I’ve seen say I need to be like 60% fat 40% protein, you’re the only person saying otherwise, I have a considerable amount of weight to lose. Am I good just eating ribeyes/Strip/ground beef (85/15) or should I look to add in some suet or tallow.
it's really hard to eat 40% or more protein. just listen to your body and see waht happens, prioritize protein
I’m using beef fat trimmings, just cut into chunks and air fried for 5-10 minutes dependent on size of chunks. This is the mainstay going with venison, goat or kangaroo mince, all of which are ground with more fat, either suet, beef or pork fat. Add in some liver and or kidneys every 10 days or so and kangaroo tail knuckles spread over 4 or 5 days every fortnight. Throw in some Philadelphia Cream Cheese or Goats cheese and some butter and boiled eggs, oysters and sardines for fill ins and you have my diet. It’s easy. I hunt so game is the mainstay red meat but beef fat is the cream on top. 90 days into this way of eating….pretty much strict carnivore but thinking of going into more vegetables as semi constipation has been a constant for me…even with plenty of fat. I’m 177cm and 69…have gone from 78-79kg down to 72-73kg without even trying to loose weight. It’s a natural side effect. I’ve kept my daily espresso with full cream milk as a reward for dumping sugar and carbs. Right into electrolytes and some salt in water other wise I can experience light headedness/mild dizziness.
The question I see often in cv community is about fat to protein ratio for weigh loss. Should it be 80-90 to 20-10% to kick ketosis and fat burn or 50-50% to focus on "burn the fat in in the muscle protein".
Question: I'm transitioning my workouts into Powerlifting. Before I started keto and was powerlifting I was eating all the crap foods and all the carbs. Now that I'm getting back into it I'm wondering what I should be more focused on as far as fat and proteins. And also what/when to eat before my workouts.
You should def optimize protein first, then fill in gaps with quality fat. Let your appetite guide you. Maybe 35-45% protein, somehwere in there
Thank you brother.. I thinking about this a lot 👌🏾
yesss
Good video, the reason I was in search for more info on the fat side of the diet is because I’m about 3 weeks in, strictly eating only red meat, salt, and water, and I’m feeling a little bit slower lately, little more tired than usual. Is this just part of the transitional part of the diet? Also I workout at least 4-5 times a week (weight lifting) . Do I need to be eating even more extra fat for that? Thanks!
Dan, there can def be some adaptation issues especially if youre going that strict in your food choices. I would try adding some fatty bone broth + consider uppin fat intake a bit and seeing how you do
That poor feeling is akin to the Keto flu. A body adjustment to eating differently. Drink 8 - 12 oz water with 2 T apple cider vinegar and 1/2 tsp salt. You'll feel better in an hour.
I'm looking for more ways to prioritize fat because Stephanie person said there is such a thing as too much protein. I've been eat as much protein as fat sometimes more and I don't feel my best and I'm stalled with weight. So apparently some people do better with super high fat on carnivore and some do better with more protein. I think it depends on how healthy you are insulin resistant. Gut issues. No gallbladder. Hormone issues. Stress etc
Bart Kay just destroyed her might wanna check out that video
@Tim Ratcliff thank you I'm gonna check it out. I like Bart Kay. I was also starting to think that Stephanie just says what she says because female clients and other clients were probably under eating getting thyroid issues with hair falling out and not getting their electrolytes.
The ad before this video was of a bunch of meals with pasta! Lol
Eating fat is the way to go! Eating enough fat is key. I add butter to things if I still feel hungry. This helps.
I add 8 oz of beef suet to my OMAD. Can't reach satiety without it. I never feel satisfied if I eat only fatty cuts. I also add 1lb of organ meats per week. Liver, Kidney, Thymus and Brain

What about stool consistency? Mine’s still very watery. I eat majority red, fatty meats and eat butter straight. I’m only on day 19 though. Maybe my body’s still adapting? Or maybe too much fat?? I’m 36 with a normal build, no preexisting conditions, etc, i.e., I’m pretty darn healthy. Just struggling with this last hurdle.
I’m looking this up because I’m hella active. Train Bjj, judo, mma, and also lift weights. I’m 6’2 around 185 and happy with my size. Just maintain. Don’t care to bulk up or anything, I don’t want food to be a job like it is for Dwayne Johnson lol
Can you break down the macros to grams? I don’t know why I can’t understand the percentages. I’m 112lbs and I have been struggling on this diet with low energy, palpitations, brain fog, tiredness during the day and major swelling in my hands at night . I had to add carbs for the palpitations and I eat dairy. This swelling is really concerning me. My blood panel showed elevated ferritin, elevated cholesterol, morning glucose 95 and 5.3 A1c (all of these numbers have gone up since carnivore) I think I am eating too much protein and possibly too much dairy but if I lower my consumption of either I can’t get enough calories for the day and I loose weight. (I’m underweight already) please help. My protein intake has been around 90-130g carbs 40-80g and fat 100-130g
Chicken, I think, is always better as a bone broth with the carcass skin and giblets thrown in, very fatty. Also I make liver pâté with 50% butter. 🧈
My reason for searching for "how to get enough fat" is because I just started and I feel a hugh loss of energy and I feel a little shaky, so I thought I must need more fat. I am eating lots of meat, rib eyes, new york strip, etc., etc.
Please please please talk about how to find the best fatty meats, tallow, ghee and things like it. Include what stores and website to get the best oils and cuts of meat. Please and Thank you ❤
I’m on a carnivore diet and am finding it hard to eat enough to reach my protein fat amount. And every time I always end up with way more protein than fat. I’m obviously doing the 80 fat 20 protein 0 carbs. I was told to just eat butter raw and that upset my stomach really quick. I can’t just eat butter so then was told to melt it into coffee but I don’t drink anything but water. So I just drown everything in butter that I cook but am considering protein shakes and melting butter and adding to it.
66 years old, 137 lbs, 5'6" and 9 months on carnivore. Tired all the time. Ugh. I mainly eat chuck burgers w/cheese. Occasionally, Ribeye. I eat eggs, bacon, butter.
Question is "how much" food at each meal do we need to eat. I see influncers eat 2 steaks, 8 eggs, stick of butter in one meal! I can't fit that much food in my belly and I certainly can't afford to eat that much. What to do.
When I get ground beef some is pressed into burgers (7oz) and frozen for later. I may have a couple of them for my lunch, and collect the fat drippings in a small dish that I dip pieces of the burger in at the table. Very tasty!
I also prepare clarified butter for most sautéing and keep a mason jar in the fridge. You can use salted butter as most of the salt is removed in the whey and watery portion. Sometimes unsalted butter at a good price isn't available.
Also, try deep frying chicken wings in beef tallow. Strain through cheese cloth after and store in the fridge for reuse.
Look for chicken thighs bone in, skin on, and cook in an air fryer till skin is crispy. Enjoy!
Try cooking various meats confit, using your favorite fat to cook in.
I was looking for sources of fat for my diet after reading the carnivore code. I'm aware of what you shared, However I'd appreciate sources that allow me to easily attain a 1:1 ration of protein to fat.
This was a helpful video, esp because I have severe cognitive impairment (neuro injury) and I have no idea how to break down what I am eating in percentages. I do 2 packs of 85 + 15 gf/gf ground beef a day and a ribeye. I'm 120 lbs female and gaining weight with the diet which I needed to do. I'm 5'9''
I haven't lost avocado yet because I don't tolerate electrolyte supps so far. Also don't tolerate raw organ meat, tallow, raw yogurt.

Everyone keeps saying if I'm low energy GET MORE FAT. But I am not able to eat many foods and I am eating till full. Will keep plugging away.
Try Dr.Bergs Eletroclyte supplement. Its the best on the market.
Okay so my worry is that going on a strict red meat diet and not breaking the bank. The reason behind this is a very hard elimination diet.. I'll be eating a lot of leaner cuts to save money. And I've heard from Paul saladino rendered fats could cause a potential problem. So no tallow for the start until I add things back in to see what messes with me.
So I've been trying to find what I do with the beef fat ill be buying besides making tallow which is all that shows up.
Should i just throw some in with my lean cuts pan fry it up and eat it along with it then?
Besides that I know i could get a meat processor and add fat into it with lean cuts to make a 80-20 like blend of beef but im not just wanting to eat ground beef a thick chewy cut of beef is nice too.
Keep in mind that Paul's specialty is going super deep and, to a point, complicating things. Keep it simple. If you need to consider finances, then eat up that tallow. If you can render it yourself from a quality source, all the better.
and if you have a few plant foods here and there that you enjoy, that can help with satiety as well
@@ColinStuckert I've got some metabolic issues so a staunch red meat diet is the way to go. I was listening to more yesterday he touched on tallow some more. The rendered fat may cause people trouble in the restroom but best hat he doesn't really have a problem. So I'll be able to try it!
I survived my 3rd day of carnivore! I've been having hamburger patties with fried eggs for breakfast. I'm doing heavy cream in Mt coffee.. I'm a mom of two under two I will not be giving up my one cup of coffee any time soon lol and I had steak for dinner one night, then steak and eggs yesterday evening and tonight I just wasn't hungry so I had some cheese melted onto large slices of pepperoni. I have a really bad addiction to chocolate 😵💫 so it's hard. But I'm a decent enough cook that my meat tastes good at least lol. Hoping this lifestyle changes sticks. Do not eat sugar, do not mix. You are not ready. I did stop all sugar before doing carnivor. I now i dream eating fat. Trust yours body, it s very hard to stop ALL sugar

Doing Carnivore just eating Grassfed Ribeyes, but also love Buffalo wings air fried in butter, so was looking if im still intaking enough fat.
Hi i been on carnivore for about 3 weeks now ive been getting low energy levels , then i realised i run out of salt for for about 5 days no salt in food, i fixed this and i think i am eating enough fats but i am still getting low energy levels, i am 44 and i train frequently , im not trying to loose weight so to speak but i could do as i have a beer belly but i think cutting out carbs should deal with that , this low energy levels are worrying me now , should i just keep at it ?
Fat is your source of energy minus carbs or sugar .
The reason I want to know is simply because beef is way too expensive for me right now. If I could currently afford to eat 2 lbs of beef a day, I would. I can eat some ground beef every other day. But I got hit hard financially last month, and until I get my budget back on track, I'm stuck eating chicken for atleast another 6 weeks. I'm also doing Carnivore, so there's that. I am getting free trimmed beef fat from butchers that I render into tallow, but it gets old dousing every piece of chicken I eat in tallow alone, every day. I'm willing to try non-carnivore, keto fats too. Thinking about adding keto mayo or philly cream cheese. idk.
Egg yolks with butter and hot water. Whip it up and its delicious drink with fat. Eggs are still cheaper then anything and you would need 1-2 tea spoon of butter. I can attempt to calculate the cost.
@@skatinka5788 I do something similar. I use hot bone broth, bacon fat and a stick of butter. Then I whip it together. Then add one egg while whipping. Very tasty and fatty.
I am looking for more fat, because I am on a carnivore diet trying to lose weight at 325 pounds male and trying to get down to 200. I eat six scrambled eggs and half a pound of 93 seven ground beef (switching to 85/15 grass fed ) with a 10 ounce ribeye. I usually have a quarter cup of shredded cheese. My macros are usually about 225 g of protein and 125 to 140 g of fat. I have done research and apparently you’re supposed to have 70% of your diet be fat and 30% protein where I’m at around 60/40 . So just trying to figure out if I’m good or if I need to increase.
I believe i am having issues with cooked fat upsetting my stomach and causing digestion issues.. going to try strip steaks and maybe smear some tallow on it instead of eating all the rendered fat.. thanks for the video.. for contex been carnivore for two months.. other than digestion the first two months i felt fantastic..
You might consider taking digestive enzymes with ox bile, they help digest fat, just for a few weeks till your gall bladder gets used to handling the extra fat. I know it seems to help me.
I have the same issue with animal fats.
I have stated to take ACV. Let’s see how it goes
I find that if I eat over 30% protein then it really messes me up. Sleep, digestion, mood, workouts are all negatively affected. Tried over 30% protein (protein leverage from Dr. Ted Naiman) for a year and I had several bad results, including weight gain (belly fat). So I'm back to a minimum of 70% fat and things are going back to normal. Could be a hormonal thing for me. But I know everyone is different.
True that. Also, consider the protein source. Some do well with different forms. Pork ruins my stomach
try digestive enzymes
Fat actually triggers Glucagon, not insulin. Protein stimulates insulin. Glucagon triggers fat loss. Eating fat makes you skinny.
Depends on the amount of fat you are eating and how much energy you are spending.
You can in fact get fat by eating fat.
For someone who’s always enjoyed leaner cuts like NYS, how can you make the beef fat edible? I can’t even chew it, let alone swallow it. Any tips on making it easier to eat?
@Plants Are For Nerds How long and what temperature in the air fryer?
Just go for salmon, that s ok too
I've searched on it because i cannot STAND the white wobbly fat, and cant deal with the texture. I tried to cook it longer but burnt it. I also dont like steak that much either... Do people eat bacon fat by the teaspoon? Am i doomed? That's why i've searched.
I thought milk dairy, even raw was allowed on carnivore as its high in carbs / lactose .
Hi there, are you selling your steaks t shirt yet? It’s the best !
Colin, Hubby had 2 stents put in, in 2019. Carnivore Dr. (new since then) says Triglycerides are to high, so that is why we are trying to incorporate more fat. Im thinking the gf beef was to lean from butcher box. Due for more labs soon, hopefully the fattier meat, extra butter, and pork belly will have done the trick.
I can tell you why I want to know about getting more fat. Grocery store butchers trim almost all the fat off the beef because most people want them to. I have to be there when they are trimming to get whatever cut I want and request they leave the fat on. They sell fat trim to 3rd parties; I’ve asked about getting some of the trim. Very hard to get fat. I don’t want to get fat from other animals (I’m not avoiding other fats, just want most of my fats from beef)
The reason I ask this question is that some women need more fat and coincidentally can't eat dairy. I wasn't sure if just eating fatty beef would be enough. I can't eat bacon or dairy because I have histamine problems.
So no oil ( avocado/olive) only butter?
I fry whole one medium egg in ghee and I don’t know if I’m getting enough fat? 🤷
Maybe I'm a bit dense here but what is the basis for the 25%-45% of calories from protein
55%-75% of calories from fat ratio? Is it based off of total calories? Maybe grams or ounces? I hear about the protein to fat ratio a lot but I can't seem to figure what that ratio is based off of. Help me out here.
That is based on a few factors. Hunter gatherer research + some accepted numbers around .5 - 1 gram per pound of body weight. It just works
It's CALORIE-based, not weight.
And yes, these idiots should ALL just stop with the PLAGUE of percentages with no reference to what they're measuring.
I wanted to punch him in the face when I realized it's _ANOTHER_ one of those videos where they don't mention whether they're talking about WEIGHT or CALORIES or ... god knows what!
He couldn't even read your questions properly... this ADHD Feeler.
We need less Feelers and more Thinkers. (MBTI and stuff...😂)
This video is super helpful. Thank you. I have been feeling a bit tired lately and lacking energy. Wondering if I should increase fat. I eat 80/20 beef. But I also eat a lot of cod and salmon which are lean. No chicken or turkey - too lean for me. I hate suet. I think I should start adding butter and yolks. I do like bone broth and organs which tend to be lean.
Yolks super underrated. Good reminder for me to eat more of them btw. Ty
If you eat eggs and drink raw milk on occasion, you don't need organs. I'd rather drink some raw cow's cream than eat organs. Fat has the fat soluable vitamins, and raw dairy has a lot of vitamin K2.
Salmon its a fatty fish
@@Ritalie thank you
Not sure none of CZcams people talk about a regular chuck steak since it’s cheap and has plenty of fat . Or a chuck eye which is a continuing portion of the rib eye
Im a big fat guy (300+lbs) with a big belly; should I do low fat, low carbs / sugar, high protein with IF & EF? Thoughts?
Remove sugar and low carbs with a hefty dose of protein then fat to fill in the gaps. And def IF
Just because one is obese doesn't mean one is not malnourished...you may be vitamin and mineral deficient...I'd avoid linoleic acid and make sure you eat organ meats like liver...I've seen many people give up because they get very weak fasting from the outset due to this...I'd eat whenever hungry initially...but again no linoleic acid which is found in chicken and pork...stick to beef initially
How about pork lard? I love it.
Pastured organic if possible, and ya
I was looking into finding ways to get more fat because too much protein can effect the level of ketosis for many people and deep ketosis is something important for healing.
for healing they say 4:1 fat to protein.
I switched to the carnivore diet, Eating Ribeyes, butter and eggs; I got constipation. The only dairy I eat is butter. Like you I don't like the taste of a chunk of fat. It's my understanding constipation on the carnivore diet is because I need more fat. So that's why I clicked on your video. To find out how I can increase my fat intake.
Have you considered an egg allergy? Its very common
@@user-lk9wy7hi1d I think I have one and it SUCKS
Hamburger fat doesn't do well with me. So I would have to drain the fat off and put butter or olive oil or something to it. Plus get tired of eating a lot of ground beef. I really don't care for dark meat chicken, I love chicken breasts and wings. So I would have to add external fats to it.
How do I get enough fat I’m allergic to dairy and eggs 😬
I started carnivore with lots of fatty meats, but started shedding weight that I couldn't afford to lose, and was fatigued. I am severely lactose intolerant, so that takes butter off the table. Eventually I'd like to take out eggs bc I've had some sensitivities to it in the past. But it seems like even the fatty meats do not give me the proper fat: protein ratio.
Daisy, clairify your butter. Removes the milk solids. Problem solved. And smoke point up to 450 from 350, excellent. I hope that this helps you.
@@elizabethcomer8795 lol actually I started to try that, and it really helped. I feel much better now!
I don't loose weight on carnivore and they say get more fat. 1g fat to 1 g protein ... that's why.
I’ve been on carnivore 6 months and have lost 28 lbs. losing wt was not my goal for doing carnivore. It is health reasons. I’m soon to be 73 years old. I don’t want to lose any more at as my skin now is crappy. I’ve look forward a carnivore maintenance guide but have not found one. Can you direct me to a location or book that will assist me in doing this.
I meant crappy skin, wrinkley.
@@pammcfadin-zc8ty if you're concerned about your skin I hear Bone Broth is really good for that, joints too.
Also supposed to be healing for the gut.
What if you don't like beef..
I'm skinny af before starting carnivore, I love the way I feel but I'm EXTREMELY active at work and I'm a runner. I can easily get enough protein but getting enough fat consistently is very challenging.
Do butter- lots of it, with cheese if its difficult to eat just butter
I agree , more butter an sometimes it s even too much exitement
My energy sucks I've been on the carnivore diet for a while now I feel like I need so much caffeine, That's why I'm searching for how much fat I should be taking in I'm wondering why my energy solo
I’m having an issue of not being able to eat enough. I ate 5 pieces of bacon 4 eggs and I nibble on a ribeye literally maybe 3 small bites. I’m only on day 4 and I’m so tired of meat
You can try what im trying, go strict for as long as you can then take a few days off, then back at it, each time will get a lil better. At first if I ate a 1 lb ribeye, it would send me to the bed, after I tried bile salts now I have no trouble. Your taste buds will slowly change and one day you will crave the food ur tired of now. I still get tired of the diet lol my tastebuds still want sugar. They say one month is when this happens. Ive never made it that long YET
Thx, ive been eating so much butter that it's making me so sick 😫
how bout the bubba burgers those are fatty? and they taste very good.
I need more fat to have regular BMs in carnivore. I am having maybe 1 BM a week. Eating rib eye 2 x week pan fried in tallow or ghee. Never chicken. Liver fried in ghee or bacon or butter. Eggs in ghee. I add extra butter to everything. I eat bacon and eggs 2 x week. Cod liver 1 x week. Sardines 3-4 x a week. No veggies. No carbs.
For me as a woman of 24, it's really necessary to eat s lot of fat.....and my menstrual cycle has changed since carnivore, so that's why I am searching a different types of fat to eat.
Sameee! Where do you get your fat from? I'm so tired of butter and suet kind of grosses me out
@@user-lk9wy7hi1d I have never tried suet. I have ground up in a Village eating natural butter, meat from our own pigs and cows, natural milk from cowes and goats. We used to eat a lot of nose to tail, it was natural. But since we grew up we learned about meat causing heart disease(fals) and other lies, so I started eating more vegetables and fruits but I had an eating disorder, which was due to lack of proper nutrition in my teenage years. Now thank god I found out about carnivore, and even tough I am not fully carnivore, I try to eat mostly animal, (and no, I do not hate animals, I think it natural for us to eat them, I have a cat and had dogs in my life, who I love). I love butter, I eat many eggs daily and I still don't eat enough fat. Learing everyday.....But the best source I have found so far is pig fat, called "šmalec" in my language, and all the cooking I do only with this pig fat, I don't use any vegetable oils anymore, thank god.
@@user-lk9wy7hi1d what part of the world do u live in? Because the availability varies depend9ng on that
I am now passing too much protein in my urine I get regular medical checkups in bloodwork my kidneys are not the problem. I would like to decrease my lean protein intake and make up the difference with fat I do not trim any of the fat off the meats that I eat. I don't have enough fat in my diet. Yes I've heard eat ribeyes their fattier. My budget does not allow for ribeyes everyday. The only dairy I tolerate is a slice of cheese on my eggs in the. Eggs and bacon in the morning to pork chops in the evening. Fatty pork chops not the ones that look pretty and are all trimmed up.
Passing through much protein is in indicator of kidney disease and kidney failure, but it is also a cause of kidney disease and kidney failure so it is a big deal
I thought I need more fat. One meal a day fills me up and I get sluggish around 4.
Ok now explain how 70/30 works against what you eat in a day, e.g. if i'm doing 2MAD, what weights of meat and fat am I eating to work that out based on me LBM etc. If you really want to know why people are searching this, give me a DM and I can explain it on a video chat or similar.
Take the majority of your side fat before bed and it helps with the insomnia
What if I can't have butter or any dairy?
Beef dripping - tallow -lard - I fry steak swimming in beef dripping and put it all on my plate. Add salt and the fatty juice tastes ok.
This was reassuring to me. Just choose fattier meats or add a little butter or other animal fat and no problem.
1 big steak 4 strips of bacon 5 eggs and butter
Hello I found your video because I searched for how to get more fat.
I eat 80/20 grass-fed, mostly because its "affordable."
I used to buy rendered fat but realized it was probably corn/soy fat.
I try to buy 78% lean ground Angus but that's at pricier food store.
I would like to buy high quality meat until my gut is healed.
Right now I am not eating enough fat. I am only 20 days in though, It takes time to undo 20 years of damage.
I know I’m late but I’m searching this because they say add more fat for constipation.
Yes it’s constipation not just not going I’m fine with that.
Magnesium electrolytes really helps, if you take too much= diarrhea, drinking more water helped me too
If I eat lean chicken I add around 40gr of fat per 200 gr of meat. Never eat lean meat without fat.
My carnivore diet primarily consists of cooking my ribeye after my bacon on a griddle. So im pretty sure im getting enough fat haha

That sounds…. So good.
Protein is always higher than the fat .. that’s the issue
3 years old video, but I have to ask, I will keep it short.
Suppose I need only 100g of protein per day, that is 400kcal, I need 2000kcal more from fat then, even if ryb eye has 1:1 ratiio, I still need 100g of pure fat, it is very difficult to include this into (esp OMAD), on Lion diet.
With port, it would be easy.
The point is, I do not think I need more than 100-120g of protein daily, or at most 150g, but 150g * 4 + 150g * 9 is still very low energy (only 1950kcal), that can not be enough for most of hte people IMHO.
Esp grass fed finished has very low fat ratio, even ribeye, that is the Tax for Grass Fed & Finished. And such suet/tallow is nearly impossible to get (at least in my area).
Imagine a 3000kcal a day need, that is 8oz of protein and 8oz of fat. Almost 4g/kg protein, can't be correct or healthy long term, or can it be?
According to some, 15-20% protein is ideal.

@@MrDaveondrums😂
I don't do carnivore, bur I also avoid dairy. Trying to figure out how to get enough fat.
Beef dripping or lard - dripping is from beef, lard is from pig
Carnivore by itself hasn’t been able to provide enough fat to stay in ketosis.
I have to add suet, huge blocks of butter with every meal, and avocado in order to get enough fat.
I also workout like a savage, that may be why.
Also coconut cream or milk, creamy cheeses, duck fat. I try and use a multitude of various fats. Keeps it fun. Just one 40cl bottle of cream, has loads of fat. Drink it strait down. Perfect.
