Thanks for sharing. We always grate them really fine, dont use cornstarch or flower, and use more onions and add nutmeg as well. We love them with applesauce or sugar. They are cold also great !

We tried this tonight, made 7 nice size pancakes. But the seasoning, which I thought wouldn't be enough, actually turned out to be very heavy. Maybe between the egg and frying in oil just came out on the too salty side. Like another user said, probably best to half the seasoning, or less and salt and pepper to taste. Rest of the recipe was spot on and fried nicely. Good texture and didn't require any parboiling. Do yourself a favor and just run the potatoes and onion through a shredding food processor. Spent more time draining than shredding. Will be making again with moderation to the seasoning. Thanks for easy recipe!

The only thing I would differently is lightly beat the eggs in a separate bowl before adding to potato mix.

At least twice as good as hash browns. My mom used bacon grease.
I know it’s supposedly less healthy but they were damn good that way.

These are really german potato pancakes, sind Kartoffelpuffer. Because in Slavic potato pancakes, that is Draniki (Belarus) or Deruny (Ukraine), eggs aren't used. Slavic dr`aniki/derun`y are made with flour; there is no need to drain the potato juice (just add a little more flour, because potato juice is full of vitamins and microelements, and pouring it down the sink is a sin!). A Slavic dish should have a viscous, chewy, rubbery texture and at the same time be crispy. It’s also not necessary to add onions to the mass. Draniki/deruny were made at the end of winter, when there weren’t many eggs, so eggs in the mass are mauveis ton (for them, for that dish).
