Mar and her sister María represent a new movement of Afro Latinos who are reclaiming their cultural traditions to celebrate Black pride and acknowledge the island's complex history of racism.

So interesting!!! I’m Puerto Rican and Haitian and both my grand mothers are Santeria and sance, but my mother tried hard to keep that away from me as a child . It was t til my 30’s I began to get into IFA and sance. I’ve been a dance for years and as a teenager and in my 20’s I’d be in the clubs in nyc dancing to house music every weekend like it was church or a tambourd I was addicted to dancing and after watching this it’s funny cause without knowing I subconsciously or maybe my ancestors made me similar and my version of these steps almost exactly in this order . I feel that speaks to my ancestors and my love and spiritual

I am from Turkey. I saw a group of porto ricon dancers dancing in Çanakkale❤ it was so fun to watch them, then I found myself searching for the dance moves😊

@Peter Connell We Caribbeans are not descendants of Africans, we are ten of the Tainos and the indigenous, I think that calling the Puerto Rican people Afro-Puerto Rican would be an offense, it is like saying that an iguana and a chameleon are the same just because they are they look like

@@EdwardC06 My dear, yes we have African heritage. Sí, somos descendientes de 3 razas; una de ellas es la raza africana. Afro-Puertorriqueño se enfoca en la etnicidad y afro por la raza, es decir, puertorriqueño de raza negra.
@Peter Connell Being Puerto Rican is about ethnicity and when they add "afro" is about race; a puerto rican who's black. Other Puerto Rican are white, indigenous, but mostly biracial.
