In today's video I am showing you lots of techniques to add depth and texture to your collage art journal pages. But first of all, why would you be interested in depth and texture on a journal page?
Adding depth and texture to your collage art journal pages can significantly enhance visual appeal and artistic impact. Textured elements draw the viewer's attention, is more visually interesting, and can hold the viewer's gaze for longer. Also, textured collages offer a tactile experience. When people can touch or feel the texture in your artwork, it creates a more engaging and memorable connection.
I've got 26 examples of how to add depth and texture to your pages. I also demonstrate the one example that I get asked about the most (it involves tissue paper).

Ooh I love the stitching of the second junk journal’s spine!
Thanks so much 💜
Nice video, great ideas. I came across one paper artist who put together bundles of paper tied them up and left them outside tied to her fence. I think they were out there for several months and the results were beautiful.
That's a great idea! I'd like to try that some day 😉
I enjoyed seeing these beautiful journals very much. They have such a perfect variety of materials in each one. Corrugated cardboard is always a fun texture! I love that it can be flattened or left as is, torn randomly or cut cleanly, painted or not...and it has such a unique sound in a journal!
Nice one!! I'll remember cardboard for the future 😉
I’ve used ribbons and potato bags (mesh type) in my work! 😊
Great idea to use the mesh material. Thanks for sharing that! 👍🏻❣️💜
So pleased to see that you have one of Jane's journals! Lucky you! ❤
Lucky, indeed! And I really love it ❣️
Love, love, love! Margaret’s I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I have learned so much! I am saving this for future reference! Thank you so much!❤❤
Wonderful!! I’m so glad you found it to be useful 👏🏼❣️💜
You are a gem! So many ideas and I am eager to scour my stash to try it all out. Thank you
Great! I’m so glad it was helpful 😉💙👍🏼
This is one of my favorite videos you have done. It was so interesting to see all the techniques used in the journals.
Wonderful!! Thanks so much for that feedback. I'm so glad it was useful and that you enjoyed it!! 🙂💜👏🏼
Thank you so much for the list of ideas! 💛💛💛
Love the way you did the book page journal cover. It looks much easier than modge podge, and easier to control the consistency. Thank you for the printable as well.
💜💜💜 I love your “flip-thru” videos! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
This is so cool! Thanks! I especially LOVE the idea of the magnet underneath the photo and watch face on top. Great idea! 💜
Margarete: great tutorial! Took notes. Carol from California
Glad it was helpful! 💜
Great range of textures! Love each journal - they're so different from each other!
What an amazing video to wake up to! Thank you!! c:
How kind of you to say. Thank you! 😊

Thank you, Linda! And thanks for stopping by for a visit 😉
😍❤️
So many great ideas, Margarete - thank you! 😊
You are so welcome! 💜
Thank you for an informative and inspiring video. I will try the tissue paper technique that you demonstrated.
Wonderful! I hope you'll like the way it turns out. 💙

I hope you’ll add it to your own journal 💜
Beautiful journal thanks for the wonderful ideas
Thx for the list with ideas!

You covered well every one of the techniques Margarete. I will keep the list as a reminder for future crafting. Thank you for the well made video tutorial. Hugs xx
Thanks so much for watching, Pirjo! BTW, I've started following more mudlarking people on IG because of you!! 😉
I will be in London in April for more mudlarking @@MargareteMiller
Awesome techniques, thank you!
Glad you like them!
You are an inspiration ❤
How kind of you to say! Thank you 😊
Thank you very much from Germany😁
You are welcome! ❤️
Margaret, what technique did you use on the page that’s opposite to a page with the magnet? Those flowers on the right hand side of a ledger page are to die for! ❤
That came as a digital printable kit from Ephemera's Vintage Garden. 💜
@@MargareteMiller , Thank you; good to know.
Really like the idea of the magnet. Genius! Can you get Tyveck fabric at a fabric store like JoAnn fabrics? Not familiar with that fabric. How do you get upholstery fabric?
Hi! Not at a fabric store. You can find tyvek at an office supply store, for envelopes made of tyvek. Then just cut down the envelopes. Also, Home Depot sells it but in HUGE rolls. They now use it to wrap around houses to keep the moisture out between the walls and the outside. I don't think you want such a large quantity, though 😉❣️
What a great video to start off Monday! I'll watch it again and take notes on the next to last journal that was loaded with ideas! I wondered if mold was an issue for the water soaked journal? Thank you also for the helpful printable list.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! No, mold was never an issue. Everything dried out really well in the hot sun 😉💜👍🏻
Thanks for another inspiring video! Tomorrow I’m going to try some of these ideas so I can remember them for future journals!
The very first 52-prompt of yours that I did is my favorite journal. In it, I also incorporated texture and a few interactive features. Some of the pages in the Ukrainian dictionary remind me of that journal, and it tickles me to think that, for a few hours anyway, I was able to "create like Margarete"! I absolutely love this flip-through video. Thanks for sharing your ideas and creativity!
Did you dunk the papers before you made the journal or did you dunk the whole journal once you made it? I just found your blog post. I will look at that for details. Thanks for such a beautiful video.
Yes, the blog post explains everything 😉❣️👍🏻
These are lots of fun but I'm wondering what does one do with them? It doesn't appear there is actual writing space so does that mean it's basically a coffee table type book?
It can be. I like to use them as places where I can explore being creative and they are stored as if they are a book. That means I can place them in a bookshelf to admire later, too 😉❣️👏🏼
Thank you for the inspiration. Each of your books is a work of art!
Thank you for all of these ideas! But you skipped over the most amazing piece, and that's the metal accent screwed onto the tissue paper cover. What is that?!!!
It's a closure I made with scraps from an old watch. Sorry that I forgot to show that! 🙃
