  • In this video the upgrade to the GPM aluminum steering assembly. Partnumbers in the video.
    At the end of the video a small update on my previous mods.
    I found out recently that there are upgrades available to fix the dreaded shock leakage of the UDR. Ordered these part and they will arrive in a few weeks.

      I haven't broken anything yet but I want to replace those common breakage parts before I do break them. The front drive shaft is one of those. Of course I haven't run my UDR very hard at this point either. 😉

    Hey bro any problems with the GPM front end? Example: Inner wheel and tires rubbing on upper arm when turning on full lock, Dog bones keep coming out because the Hub sticks out to the side more and does not have factory camber...
    I replaced all mine with Hot Racing front end and I had those problems. Immediately returned the front end to stock. Hoping GPM will be different

    Thanks for posting this how-to video Ron👍🏽. I’m annoyed with the weak spring on the stock servo saver, it’s just too weak for the weight of this beast.
    I just received the GPM unit yesterday but haven’t gotten around to doing the swap..I wasn’t sure exactly how to pull the steering rack out, but thanks to this video, now I know.
    A couple of questions, do you think the spring on the GPM is strong enough( stronger than stock )? Also, is the tension adjustable on it? It does have a knurled collar so it does appear that the tension is adjustable..I haven’t opened the package yet( too busy with work! ) to check if it is, but I’m hoping so. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video!👍🏽

      I think the GPM servo saver's spring is too strong. Wasn't able to loosen it by hand and didn't want to damage it with my pliers. But on the other hand, I have a 23kg mg servo that can take a beating. If it breaks, I'll replace it by a 40kg mg servo :-)
      So far, I bashed it hard and no problems at all. Ditch the 2075x, that's rubbish.

      Ronald Harkema Thank-you for the fast reply! I ditched the stock servo when I first bout the truck and put a Hitec 7955 in. It has plenty of power, but the stock servo saver spring defeated the purpose because it is so weak, the steering lagged because the servo saver would just unload on high-traction surfaces making the steering feel very lazy. I’m glad that GPM has a stronger spring👍🏽, that’s what I was hoping for. Thanks again Ron!!

      Well I installed the steering rack..it was pretty straight forward. I must say that this is a must-have mod for the UDR, it now responds instantly to steering input with absolutely none of the lag that was present with the stock rack. Thanks again Ron👍🏽

    Great upgrade choice bro ! Did u have any pb with the stock stering system or is it just for fun ?

    • @RonaldHarkema
      @RonaldHarkema  Před 5 lety

      I found there was too much flex in the stock steering. Since the whole steering is metal now, the flex is gone. I have doubts about the servo saver, but time will tell how this will hold.

    yeah, I definitely wish you could re-upload this at normal speed! It's especially speed up at the critical parts! Very good content though, in either case, thanks.

      I don't have the original footage anymore. You can slow down the player speed, maybe that helps.

    Can't tell exactly what you're unscrewing on the front end because the camera only has a view of the top. Way too fast to see what's going on on the front end!
