  • $45 DIY/How to - Spark Plug Replacement Porsche 987 Boxster/Cayman (987.2)
Since I wasn't sure when the spark plugs were last changed, and knowing I'd had it for a year already, made it worthwhile to spend the $50 to replace them.
Since I had not found a pure 987.2 video on the subject I took some extra time to detail this more thoroughly than perhaps you may need.
Hopefully the visuals, tips and tricks make this project go smoothly for you. I was definitely overly apprehensive about this job and, more than anything, it comes down to the right tools.
Be memorable, be well. D Wray

Nice, especially how you overcame issues. Would have been nice to see the condition of the old plugs. Good job.

Love watching your vids.. I’ve got a similar setup, a ‘16 Macan S and an ‘03 986 S (not quite the 987 but fun enough for me). I just picked up a Quickjack and look forward to setting it up and turning some wrenches in the pursuit of maintenance and modifications. Thanks for unraveling some of the mysteries I would’ve encountered had I gone in blind :).

That QuickJack will make you want to do all the work you can! Next up .. suspension. Thanks for watching and learning.

Mute button can be your friend! I understand the polarizing potential of music so no worries there. Thanks for muddling thru and appreciating the content regardless. D

Hi new suscriber, really enjoying the Porsche videos. Drive a Caymen S myself and do all my own maintenance which I thoroughly enjoy. Just about to replace the Waterpump and low temperature thermostat in the next few days, also replaced the plugs and coil packs a few months ago along with two O2 sensors. Such an easy car to work on compared to a 911, doing the plugs on them is a real PITA. Anyway keep up the good work. Mick Northern Ireland 👍🍻

Thanks for the note Mick. My dad's name was Mick and his mum was from the Republic of Ireland! I always wondered what people made of working on 911 vs midship B/C cars. My car is in a great spot and I need to tackle water pump soon before it leaves me stranded! Enjoy yours and look forward to hearing more about your car's journey.

Great video, did you check the gap on the plugs prior to installing them? I just changed my plugs, the box states they are already set to the correct gap but a couple of them were not correct. I used NGK 2667 Iridium, they have the single tip vs the Bosch I removed had the four tips. I notice a quicker pedal response than before. Keep up the good job, thanks!

Silly me trusting the verbiage on the package! O would have tested them but didn't have the gauge and the box reassured me I'd be fine. I've had no issues but that's likely nothing more than dumb luck! Glad someone else went with the single tips - started to wonder if I'd shortchanged my car. Thanks for watching and engaging!

Don't have that Macan anymore but seems likely I'll have one soon. Rest assured, when I do, I'll make that video. Stay tuned...

Only mistake I think I made was not checking the gapping. Good luck if you take it on. Confined space but very doable.

At 2:32 of the video it sounded like you stated " This is a 45" as the size of the external Torx socket required to remove the heat shield. A comment on the procedure at Pelican Parts states the size as an E10. Please clarify.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  Před 2 lety

My apologies. It will be an E10 or E8 - likely the E10 based on many of these bolts I just removed on the intake. Good luck with your project.

I've not had any issues so far. What brand/model did you get and I'll compare and research further. Easy-ish job now I know how to do it.

@@DWraysGarage Look at the ones that came out of your car ,,dont they have 4 prongs and one center electrode? The ones you put in are completely different. They have one prong. But if they work then great !
