Renting is also an option! You can rent a Tacoma (midsize pickup) for three days for $170. Even if you buy a car, you need to pay for insurance and maintenance. Cars are a major money sinkhole.
Consider a tarp style tent setup up using a roof rack….. long time ago i drove completely around the lower 48 in a dodge neon with a yakima bike rack …. Had a mountain bike on one side and a long box pod on the other….. inside the pod was a massive tarp that i had installed a 6in grommet ring in the center. Removing the bike seat i would feed it through the grommet and reinstall seat….. stakes and expanding poles allowed me to then make any sort of shelter i desired
I love my one person car camping setup but cause so I have half of the back for my bed and half for my gear. I remember being on a festival and when the storm got so heavy that it was to dangerous in the tent I was happy to have my extra setup in the car (it was for the drive home)
I keep a 6 man tent , fishing/camping gear in my trunk year round 😂 Ill wander into a bike path and go off trail to find a spot for the weekend. God I love Canada's crown land law
Heated blanket, battery rope light wrapped around the oh shit handles, and a roof rack box, and youll be at the next level. Plywood floor for the back to make it level would be even better
Had a similar setup for car camping in the '14 forester I had. However, in mine I built a cheap leveling platform out of a piece of plywood and a couple 1' long strips of 2x4 on the end closest to the back hatch. Since the back seats dont fold down flat the small incline leaves you weirdly elevated at the front. The leveling setup made it so much better.
i have a subaru forester and it takes a full size futon mattress perfectly. i just put two tall suitcases right behind the front seats to make the bed even longer.
I'm "homeless" in Minnesota with a 2008 Nissan versa sedan 4 door non hatchback and I'm learning things everyday. I don't have any modifications and I'm learning heat and space are your two limiting factors in a car.
Just about to buy 2015. Just need to camp where it is not 90 plus’s degrees unless I want I leave ac going. Actually I have a portable chiller and the Outback had plugs and usb to run it. 😅 might get a little humid and just need a sheet. Love the super dark tint on back 😅
Dont use home pillows... they trap moist and get heavy... tried it many times and decided to get a camping pillow thats not too cheap and man its better than my purple pillow i use at home. 😂😂😂
This is all you need. Back in day, people just used donkeys and horses. Any car will do trick.
hey
Love that you made this accessible for anyone to just get up and GO. Isn't that the whole point??!!
The week I spent sleeping on a futon mattress in the back of my Toyota 4 Runner were the best nights of sleep I have ever had in my life.
Where have you been sleeping? I slept on futon matress on camping but dam... maybe spend some money on some good matress at your house first?
Confirming my need for a 4Runner or similar vehicle car camping
The second I can afford a car this is what I'm doing in the summers and long weekends. It's just a simple way to get outdoors.

I love the set up. Thank you for not pushing the most expensive gear and making the outdoors even more accessible.
I wish you the best karma❤❤❤❤
Really like your setup. Great job. Maybe a roof box will give you more options space-wise.
Did similar but got bins that just slid under the truck for clothes, food and essentials.😊
I plan on using similar for my Forester when I go camping for the first time. Just got it!

I love my Outback for this!
I love car camping
Love it!
I love your blue and yellow shirt!
Roof tent would help too
Classy.

So cozy I love it

I sleep that direction in my 2010 outback too!!
Cool - just cool
Nice I have an Outback too, never slept inside tho. How was the condensation?
How do you solve the gap between the front and back seats? in my 2007 legacy i fill it with mess :) but it's not optimal.

I’m planning to do some car camping with my 01 Outback
I lobe it

Nice
damn i just ordered a tent and didn't think about sleeping in the back of my suv.
How do you deal with fogged-up windows from the inside (due to breathing)?
👍🏽

What app you use to camp
Huh. Thats very cleaver
Tent?
Anyone have input on cross trek vs Outback in terms of sleeping in it?
So when you do sleep in the car in bear country… where do you store the food?? Personally scared to do this lol
whoa the speed of the audio was way fast
I can smell this video…
You could buy a tent though?
Ummmm did you hear them say IF no bears
Bear country or not, it's best practice to have food in your vehicle to not attract any animal
In some countries you really dont need to, but its basic camping 101 to keep camp kitchen (and food) away from sleeping areas.
So you sleep in the vehicle WITH the food? I thought it was supposed to be away from your sleep area
slow down lol
Hope you don't put your food in the car in bear country.
Can't understand a word! Slow down!
The life of bums 🫥
Huh
that looks si hazardous lol
Its not, homless
Talking so fast is so annoying 😮
Slow down girl 😊
Bet it smells like bad breath and farts
Get a roof rack for extra storage
You need a trailer
Wagon all the way.
