- Today is the day!! We board the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton and set sail for New York! We stayed in cabin 4096 / BU Balcony. Now that we've had a cabin with a covered balcony, we're never going back to just a window! We may have gotten off to a shaky start, but the day finished strong. We had an incredible first day aboard the ship. Let the relaxation begin!

Together for 10 years and then married in March 2020, we've had some amazing adventures in the past: a month-long journey from England back to the States, 4 weeks in Ireland, 6 weeks in Scotland, and then another 2 weeks in Ireland. We're in the process of documenting all of those trips, day by day, on our blog. After the joy of sharing those trips with friends and family, we've decided to take you along for all of our future trips! Here's to more #travel in the years to come!
Cheers,
Lydia and Billy
The sparkling wine (Pol Acker) is complimentary to welcome you aboard. In approx 20 voyages with Cunard I am usually given a half-bottle, however occasionally, just as were, I get a whole bottle. In Queens Grill suites you are given Cunard's house Champagne in addition to the Pol (or at least I did on two QG trips). I'm back on board in Decemeber.
Good to know for future voyages, thank you!
A lovely and genuine couple
Thank you!
Looks like quite the adventure!
Hope to see more from this amazing journey!
It was incredible! More vlogs to come, so keep an eye out 🥰
We are so happy to see your video , a genuinely lovely couple....glad an elderly man helped you with a taxi, that luggage looked heavy!
You are too sweet, thank you so much! And we really lucked out with Antony! He was a life saver 😄
Love the sheltered balcony!
It was amazing!!! Definitely the way to go.
It is indeed a Texas thing.
Here we have a plate of candied panda ovaries served over a plate of asparagus that was grown on the north side of...
Just. Feed. Me...
🤣🤣🤣🤣 at least it not just us lol!!
You two are adorable! Thank you for your videos!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks!! 🥰🥰🥰 And thanks for watching!
You are not old. I am old, an I can tell you, lots of us old people have a lot of trouble sleeping, so we tend to stay awake all night. Since older people love to go cruise ship traveling, they tend to be up really late at night having fun.
That makes sense!
Just found your channel and you guys are awesome
Awww thank you so much!! 🥰
Nice job with the video! The mask wearing brings back some bad memories, but I am glad you had a good cruise.
Thanks! It's definitely strange to look back on. It's like a time slip that was both yesterday and ten years ago.
We always stay at the Star Hotel the night before embarkation.
It's such a convenient location!
@@AFoggyPath Yes its perfect. I just booked a room at the Star Hotel for May 30th. Were taking the Queen to Europe on May 23rd and coming back on her later. Hope you are able to sail on her again soon. Really enjoyed these videos.
We hope you have an amazing trip, it sounds lovely!! We're so glad you enjoyed the videos. Thanks for watching! 🥰
@@AFoggyPath Thank you
You could have dropped your bags as soon as you left the hotel. i did the same here in Australia on a recent cruise on Queen Elizabeth
Good to know for the future!!
Queen Mary 2!!!!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!
Such a nice video. I will soon be setting sail in a few weeks. I went to visit your blog but it could find anything on this topic. I am wondering if it is even worth it to bring a computer on board or is the wifi non existent?
We never tried the wifi since it is something extra to pay for. From other passengers we met, they said it was good for checking emails and Facebook, but not worth it if you were trying to upload photos or video. So, I'd say worth it if you are willing to pay for it and just need a basic, simple connection.
If you never been on a cruise is an Atlantic crossing a bad idea to start? Or should one start with like 5 days in the Caribbean?
It's the only cruise we've ever done and we loved it! If you're more interested in stopping along the way, an island cruise might be better. But if you're interested in a long stretch at sea, we'd say jump on a transatlantic crossing!
Love your vids. Thanks. Glad you don't consider your selves 'foodies'. A term I dislike. I do think you need to upgrade your appreciation for food though and don't limit your view for it so much. You definitely aren't 'what you eat' though because you appreciate so many other things without pretention which is always refreshing. But I have to tell you to eat in France at a Michelin Starred restaurant is truly the equal to experiencing a wonderful play. So many people we know eat so quickly without appreciating every bite for more than just it's nourishment and not its craft. In a really fine place care is given into every note of a serving.
Food is a great way to experience a new culture, so we definitely try dishes beyond our normal, but we are 100% guilty of falling back into our comfort foods. A Michelin star restaurant would be amazing to try some day!!
@@AFoggyPath Hope you get to that Michelin Starred place some day in France. All the best with your travels!
Hit me up on when you are doing another cruise and I’ll join y’all if I can get the days off.
Honestly, this would have been WAY more fun with a group of friends. We'll let you know for the next one!
Cause use old people take our naps lol 😝
🤣🤣🤣
Would you be willing to share your cabin #? TYIA.
We were in 4096!
Hello I want to Knowles if the ask for pass vaccination tanks you
When we went, yes, we had to provide proof of covid vaccination and a negative covid test. That was May 2022, so things might have changed since then. If you look on their website, they list everything you'll need depending on which port of call you board at. Hope that helps!
We're you the youngest people on the ship?
We were definitely in the minority haha! We saw a handful of younger couples, one who we think were on their honeymoon. It's definitely more a retired crowd, but we had a wonderful time just the same!
@@AFoggyPath thanks. We are going next year on 4th of July to Boston. Good to hear we might not be the youngest!!
That sounds fun, we hope you have a great trip!!
Nice happy and in love young couple but going on far too much about watching a long video pre cruise that they could've watched months ago?or at least days ago.I like their smiles and enthusiasm but sorry her voice irritates me 😂
and you irritate me. So its even.
Notwithstanding the poor planning that was seen at the start of this video, the ONE important thing that NO cruise vloggers ever include in detail, is what happens from arrival at the terminal until you reach Security ! What documents are you required to declare to check-in, and whether you have to hand written copies of them to the staff at the terminal. It seems to be a BIG SECRET that nobody wants to disclose !!!
Hey, great questions! I don't think anyone is trying to hide this information. If I'm being honest, it was very similar to boarding a plane, but with longer lines. We printed everything possible that we got from Cunard because we were traveling for a few weeks before boarding and didn't know if we'd have access to a printer during that time. We showed our boarding passes, negative covid test results, and our passports, but I don't really remember anything else specifically. I do know that there are different requirements for UK residents vs US residents regarding travel insurance, so there might be other differences that didn't apply to us.
As far as the process, we arrived at the terminal, checked the baggage we needed to, waited in a very long line to present our tickets and documents, waited in another long line to go through a security check, and then off to the ship. There may have been an initial security check when we entered the terminal (before getting in line to show our tickets) but I don't remember.
This was only our second cruise, and the first one we vlogged. I was nervous we didn't have everything we needed, but it turned out to be a very easy experience at the terminal. I hope this helps a little bit!
e tickets can be downloaded on you phone or printed, print your luggage tags, passport and no covid tests are required to date (11/23) We are sailing the QM2 from Hamburg to Brooklyn after a year teaching in the Republic of Georgia. Looking forward to it.@@AFoggyPath
