    My Roots, ilove my Hmong People, we come from the Plain of jars in the jungles of Laos. Known as Montagnards, also known as the Secret Army and recruited by the C.I.A where our military base is on a mountain top named Long Tieng, Laos . General Vang Pao our brave leader, #RIP to our ACE fighter pilot Major Lee Lue who flew a T-28Ds Trojan and shot down. My family has been fighting side-by-side with the Americans during this war. Grandpa and many other Young Men's fought against the Pathet Laos a Communist Party that sided with North Vietnam and the Viet Congs. When the Kingdom of Laos fell into Communist control, some of us made it out, some of us were left behind, and some of us are still hiding from the Pathet Laos because they've have labeled us as Rebals for aiding America. As of today, im blessed to be born in California, being first generation Hmong-American. My family is still serving this Nation. Who, with 3 Siblings in the Army. Thank You.

    As a Laotian, I like this Video; the narrative is objective and not biased. It's sad to know my forefathers didn't fully understand geopolitics, constant internal fighting, corruption, and constant external subversion. 😢😢 when numbers of educated people were few, and ignorant people were many, these are why Laos didn't have no chance for self governed until today. 😢

    Although i prefer multi-parties elections and freedom of speech that existed during kingdom of laos , it is very clear that Royal Lao government lost the wat simply because: 1) no will to fight
    2) country has no direction, royalist government is viewed as puppet of foreign power
    3) souvana phouma is not decisive and iron fist enough, kept talking abt neutralist state and forming coalition govt when your army is eating you bit by bit
    4) rampant corruption among the hi rank armies and politicians , and souvana didnt take stern action
    5) no economic developments. People dont feel their lives are better under you, but the war is affecting them.

    • @TheAlrightyOne
      @TheAlrightyOne  Před 7 měsíci +4

      My method of source gathering is as follows:
      Step 1: Visit the Wikipedia page on the subject.
      Step 2: Ignore everything on the page because anyone can edit it.
      Step 3: Browse through the various academic sources accredited on the page.
      During my postgraduate academic career I spent quite a bit of time compiling annotated bibliographies. That's why it pains me to say... I don't have a list of sources. This is because I'm usually skimming through these articles and posts looking for very specific pieces of information. I could do it if I wanted to, but my main focus is storytelling (while still of course making sure my information is accurate.) Likewise, I also looked up primary sources in the Lao language and read them through a translator.
      My advice is this. Look up the specific events on Wikipedia, look to see if any pertinent academic sources are listed in the references. Also, translate the names of people or events of interest into Lao and search Google for any primary sources (if your computer can auto translate pages). Lastly, if you or someone you know has access to any large databases like JSTOR though enrollment at a university, those are great! If there's anything still locked behind a paywall, try contacting the article's author! Scholars of all types hate that so much knowledge is locked behind paywalls. Chances are, ESPECIALLY with "niche" or understudied topics like Lao history, that the pertinent scholars will directly send you their articles if you ask politely. Hope this helps and best of luck with your research!
      Best,
      Alrighty

      Laos was a protectorate in name only. It was for all intents and purposes a colony as power lay within the hands of the French governor-general. Laos (in the form of territories east of the Mekong) was seized by France during the 1893 Crisis.
