    After pressing the call button, you should see the "In Use" light turn on. This means the elevator is being used.

    It sounds like a basement vault door opening, or something out of a science-fiction movie. This is cool.

    Some elevators if you press door close it won’t close but if you hold a loud alarm will go off and then start closing after few seconds. When closed alarm shuts off

      I taught myself how to use a freight elevator with power doors it's not that hard to do.

    What does the first button do?

    I have a question for the expert at ElevaTOURS.
    Why do freight elevator doors open vertically rather than horizontaly like doors on passenger elevators?

    • @DieselDucy
      @DieselDucy  Před 9 lety +2

      Several different reasons. One being with a vertical opening door you can use the entire width of the car whereas on a horizontal opening door there's a jam around the door where you would see the buttons basically meaning you could fit an item as wide as the elevator in the car with vertical opening doors where is horizontal doors you could not fit an item the entire width of the car. They also assist with the transfer of heavy loads into the car

    • @iowawrench
      @iowawrench Před 8 lety

      +LoweDownDriver It's because it takes less hoistway width. Freight doors like this from Peelle or EMS need maybe 12" from the jamb to the adjacent inside wall in the hoistway. A passenger horizontally sliding door would need the panel width plus running clearance to the hoistway wall. So if your opening were 6' wide and center parting passenger style doors, you would need door panel width (1/2 opening plus a little = ~3') + running clearance from the edge of the opening to the inside adjacent hoistway wall. That wastes building sq footage. There are rare freight elevators with horizontally sliding doors though. They sometimes have a return or jamb as DieselDucy describes, though. Also, vertical doors can be passenger doors when correctly configured. For example, the 6' car gate you see in this video would need to be full height, and solid panel (not wire mesh see-thru).

      @LoweDownDriver Před 8 lety

      Thank you for the reply. But then my question is, why not make passenger elevators the same way then? Why make them left to right?

    • @iowawrench
      @iowawrench Před 8 lety

      +LoweDownDriver good question. here are some ideas: freight doors ride on vertical tracks that extend above and below the entrance. theses typically bolt to structural steel jambs. these structural steel jambs are less pretty. you also have to step over the truckable sill... the 5-7" top of the lower door panel. the lower door panel also typically transmits this load to a steel angle on the leading edge of the floor slab which of course is another non-pretty item. on the car side, there are configurations where the gate counterweights are concealed, but the counterweights themselves often occupy the front ~16" beside the opening moving the car op panel back. small passenger cars are 51" deep. this could look funny or worse, put the car op panel back in the same area as the car sling. horizontal doors dont need counterweights, the door operators require less clear overhead (distance from top landing to top of hoistway), are arguably safer (hit in the side instead of the top of head), work in harmony with car operating panels being in the front wall of the elev car, have less distance to travel generally (doors on pass cars are generally taller than they r wide). just some ideas...

    wich kind of button is the button above you hand at 2:39 ?

    • @iowawrench
      @iowawrench Před 8 lety

      +Trizocbs maybe "door open" and then possibly a "door stop/reset" although in my experience door stop/reset would be in the car station, not hall.

  • @iowawrench
    @iowawrench Před 8 lety

    Typically there would be a single call button in the hall on a freight elevator with an in-use light (single automatic controller). An up and down button would imply selective collective operation, which is generally used for passenger elevators. Single automatic is more fitting for freights as you generally do not want the elevator to stop at an intermediate landing mid-trip as the likelihood of having a bulky item in the elevator and not having room for more would be high. Also, the constant pressure car gate closing might not be needed since it appears there is a light curtain (newer elevators only as you say). Something is definately fishy with that elevator though! There is not a push-pull run stop switch in the car. Instead it appears to be a key switch. There is also not a door stop/reset switch in the car station. I also don't see the required loading and capacity signage... Weird, what state is this in?

      @namhyeongkim_cos Před 2 lety

      Yeah.
      Most Korean elevator manufacturer like Hyundai and SIGMA does that; they has single call button while another button in the call station is door close button.

    Mr. Elevator expert my question is how come Freight elevators have a door open button and a door close button why can't you just hit the up or down button or your floor selection to close or open the doors like a passenger elevator also at the end of the video someone rang the freight elevator because I saw it moving behind you ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
