    I like this motherboard where the PCIe slot is in the first slot position, unlike MSI Mortar and Asus Tuff which are in the second slot, so you don't have to worry if you use a thick GPU in a matx case

    I bought that board model because I didn't want the extra auto capabilities, because the computer is used for a Virtual Pipe Organ (Hauptwerk), I use a Presonus audio interface for my audio.. So I am happy Gigabyte has the option to buy a board with modest audio performance. The thing I like too about the Gigabyte 650 boards is the number of USB connections. I like the four USB 2, 5 USB 3.2 and the one USB C ports because I will be using all but one of those ports.

    Why do they keep making x16 physical slots with only x4 interface. Stop being so damn cheap and make it another x16 or at least x8.

    • @Desert-edDave
      @Desert-edDave Před rokem

      This is a limitation of the B650 chipset (which is 1x16 or 2x8 PCIe 4.0 (not counting for NVME)) and not a fault of the motherboard manufacturer. This variant is still better in terms of pci-e interfaces than the ATX(B650 AORUS Elite) version of the board which is two PCIE 3.0 x16 @x1 speed (not counting the x16 4.0 video card slot). The vast majority of the people that would be using this board simply do not need a plethora of more capable PCI slots. Side note: USB ports need lanes too.
      Cost is not remotely the issue - it would be far cheaper to simply wire the x16 slot to be x4 or x8 (which few people would benefit from) vs. the rear panel IO, multiple USB-C interfaces and a great deal of other USB ports for an mATX board.

    I agree that AM5 motherboards are very overpriced, but this board is worth at least $150. It's got an 8-layer PCB, a really solid VRM with a massive heatsink (440 grams!!!), a gen 5 M.2 slot, a thunderbolt header, Wi-Fi, and lots of USB ports. If you are not into XOC, this is really the sweet spot for AM5 boards unless you need X670. I'd much rather pay $200 for a $150 board than $400 for a $250 board. BTW, those plastic M.2 clips are horrific. I'm sure the screws and standoffs are provided for when they break.

    For MATX Aorus Elite Ax is my first choice but wish they had the Pro AX for sale as it has 70 amp power stages. The thing I don't like about all motherboard makers is they had ALC1220 codec on x570 and changed to 15 year old ALC 897Codec. You need to check out their latest white boards as they want more for them and made them even Cheaper with 6 layer PCB. $180 here in the US.

Edit: It's also a given sadly, there was going to be a new tech premium but still prices are way too much.
