  • Fox News Contributor Dr Marc Siegel has revealed his concerns following Princess Catherine’s abdominal surgery.
Kensington Palace has revealed that the Princess of Wales has been admitted to a private London hospital for abdominal surgery and is expected to remain there for up to two weeks.
The Palace reveal the planned procedure was successfully carried out on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old is not expected to return to her royal duties until after Easter and apologised for having to postpone her royal engagements.
“Almost every single abdominal surgery I can think of, that’s not an emergency, is done through a scope these days or a robot, and you’re home in a day,” Dr Siegel told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.
“I’m concerned - I think something might have gone wrong. I’m worried about a complication, I’m worried about an infection.
“Two to three months of recovery implies that there’s been something major here.”

I had a small bowel blockage and it required surgery. I was in the hospital for 10 days. No solids, no nothing but intravenous fluids. It took me six months before I started to feel normal again. Abdominal surgery is nothing to play with. It’s serious.

I found out I have some type of bulging inside my bowel. How hard is it after the surgery? I’ve had my gallbladder removed and laparoscopy and DNC’s and lumps removed out my breast and a lump remove out my arm and my leg wisdom teeth removed tonsils removed. so I’ve been through the motions of surgery. But this one here about the bowel it scares the crap out of me.

I went in for an outpatient procedure to remove my gastric LapBand and ended up staying in hospital for 8 days. The band had eroded through my stomach leaving a gaping hole. Infection set in at the port site and was reopened and drained. This surgery has been the worst medical event of my life. And it’s taking me a long time to return to normal. For once I wish the media and public would just leave her alone.

It’s been almost a year since my abdominal surgery last February and I still recuperating from it . I stayed a week at the hospital then was send home for the recuperation post surgery . Doctors recommended not lifting heavy loads more than five pounds . It was painful. I had a great Army surgeon and doctors who were right on top of my recuperating time and many appointments after the surgery .
The Princess has the best of doctors and she’s young and healthy and that’s a huge difference from recuperating from abdominal surgery.

It's in the abdomen and recovery is slower because your movements
Have to be carefully taken and slow...adhesions can happen which can affect
      Recovery, quite
      Painful and cause adhesions

As a former nurse, a two week stay in hospital with a long recovery period isn’t unusual after abdominal surgery. Also, it would be more interesting to hear from specialists in this field rather than generalists. Additionally, it’s not as though there aren’t other members of the royal family who could pick up the slack if possible here: I think it’s entirely fair that families want to be together especially following major surgery. That plus Piers showing his ignorance for clicks and shock value.
Plus knowing what I know as a former scrub nurse, not all abdo procedures can be done laparoscopically. The end.
Plus - big difference between these procedures. MASSIVE.

It depends what the surgery was, though. I've had multiple abdominal surgeries. The one that required the longest hospital stay with the most complications was my hysterectomy. It also took me a good year or so to feel human again. I've never, ever seen any thing close to a bloated abdomen on Catherine. Generally, gynecological issues come with visible inflammation. I do NOT believe this was "planned" per se. At all. "Planned" could mean 5 mins before! I think it was relatively sudden & she probably had complications, even excessive blood loss? Will we ever really know?

I hope you're feeling better now. As for Princess Kate, she's unfortunately a public figure whose also a head of state, and a beloved one, so it's big news. Add in the fact that she's got what seems like a long hospital stay compared to what those of us in who aren't doctors, and people are going to worry and it will, sadly, be talked about and speculated upon, and reported as news until it's officially announced, if ever, that this is the reason she was in the hospital. Until then, this is news, although I suspect once she comes home and everyone can see that she's recovered from whatever it was, that will be the next big news. Is it nice to talk about people like that? No, and unfortunately, as a public figure, she will be talked about- good or bad.

Keeping her in hospital is probably the best way to preserve her and the family's privacy, receive a higher level of care, engage in any needed physiotherapy, and heal. For most of us, post-surgery involves going back for visits, sending someone out for Rx, going to physical therapy. Keeping her in, means not having to run back and forth and avoids sending in traveling nurses or other staff into their house, maintaining their privacy.

I've had abdominal surgery, and in my case, I was in the hospital for two weeks, and then I was transferred to a hospital for patients who were healing from wounds. After a total of 36 days, I was finally home, and only because it was Christmas time and my husband offered to continue to dress the wound each day. (My other choice was a care assisted facility.)
The wound dressing was quite specific, so we videotaped the nurse tending to the large cut in my stomach so that we could refer back to it, if necessary. (We never needed it!)
Now, I don't know if Princess Catherine had the same sort of healing to do that I did, or if her surgery was laparoscopic (which makes cuts that are an inch or so wide). I've had that sort of surgery, as well, and it was much faster to heal from - maybe two weeks total. Any sort of surgery can take three months or so for the body to completely recover. I'm no doctor- just sharing from personal experience. I believe Princess Catherine's recovery timeline is completely within the bounds of normality! I'm not a bit concerned that anything has gone wrong. As in my case, the body takes time to heal!

I was in hospital for one night when I had surgery to remove a 8cm cyst from my right ovary. I was rushed out of hospital because they were short of and in desperate need of beds. I was told I’ll need a follow up appointment to make sure I’m doing well in two months but I got nothing of the sort. Even calling the hospital to ask why the hospital haven’t sent me an appointment to be told I already attended it, which I know I hadn’t. I had to get on with the stress and pain from what I went through.

  • @l.alexandra5871
    @l.alexandra5871 Před 4 měsíci +34

I’ve had abdominal surgery that was neither cancerous nor gynecological at age 26 when I was in perfect health. I was in hospital for ten days. After many abdominal surgeries you need an NG tube and perhaps other drains. You cannot leave hospital until all the drains are removed. (While it’s possible to go home with certain drains in place, it can be upsetting for family members to tolerate and in Catherine’s case her children may find such tubes traumatizing.) An NG tube is extremely painful and the pain is usually alleviated through closely monitored opioids administered by nurses. The incision from the surgery is also quite painful. Not every surgery can be done through a laparoscope. I was also hospitalized for eight nights when a portion of my intestines narrowed severely. Again, an NG tube was required and luckily, after a week, the blockage resolved on its own. Abdominal surgeries are big deals: even without any cancer, removing any sort of benign mass is very tricky. We have no idea if the surgery also addressed any issues with her liver, kidneys, or pancreas. But speculating that something went wrong seems a bit reckless inasmuch as he has no insight into Catherine’s medical history. Nor should he or anyone else. I’m not sure where Piers found this “expert” but he wasn’t especially eloquent. He also knows nothing about anesthesia. Sedation is propophol alone. Ketamine is not always used and it’s an old school perfectly fine general anesthesia component. General Anesthesia means a patient is intubated and all breathing is controlled by the anesthesiologist and equipment that oxygenates the blood. For abdominal surgery it’s almost essential that the patient’s natural breathing is stopped by a paralytic agent that keeps the chest from moving up and down. A surgeon needs a sensation of all bodily functions while operating including breathing. That’s why the anesthesiologist for a major operation is vital. He or she ensures you are breathing mechanically and your blood stays saturated with oxygen.

Well, Some Ppl Can Afford It!! It’s actually become pathetic bc she is so miserable , very unhappy even about the ppl she calls friends. Has five sisters and they all despise one another. What chides her the most is that all five are financially better off. Certainly not a happy camper, never will be, well maybe if she won the grand lottery😊 I’ve come to the conclusion some ppl are just born jealous of anyone who has more than them. They literally hate rich ppl. Yep , The world owes them more. It’s not fair, what about me?? Some Ppl Can Afford IT!! 😅. They’re just unhappy ppl.Ain’t nothing going to change that. Appendicitis
A burst appendix. A burst appendix, also called ruptured appendix, spreads infection throughout the abdomen, a condition called peritonitis. Possibly life-threatening, this condition requires immediate surgery to remove the appendix and clean the abdominal cavity. Appendicitis symptoms can be similar to those of other conditions that affect the abdomen, such as a stomach virus or an ovarian cyst. For this reason, it can be hard to tell if you have appendicitis. You’ll usually get antibiotics through a vein, at least for the first few days. You may need to receive hospital treatment for 10 to 14 days to ensure the infection is gone. It can take up to 6 weeks to fully recover from open surgery. Try not to lift anything heavy or participate in sports or other strenuous activities during this time. Your recovery will take longer if you have a drain inserted and shorter if you have a laparoscopic procedure.

I would NOT assume that something went wrong with the surgery. As an example, I had abdominal surgery in the 90's, and after the surgery, had an NG tube down my throat for 11 days. Tube was routine, for my type of surgery, and I was told that the average duration for an NG tube (after that type of surgery) is 10 days.
I could not have left the hospital, during that time, because:
    1. The tube was connected to a suction device on the hospital wall, near my bed, and
    2. I could not eat or drink anything by mouth. All fluids and nutrients had to be delivered intravenously, (IV).
They did not release me until after the tube was out, and they were sure that i was able to eat and drink.
But that was just the first thing that came to mind, from my own experience. Her case could be something completely different.
Either way, I wish her a speedy recovery, and hope that they are able to make her as comfortable as possible.

They use the tax payers money , I believe some of that goes on security which would be needed at the hospital, tax payers also pay for their luxury vacations so that makes it the public’s business

As an RN, here is my educated guess. She likely has Crohn’s, which is why she’s practically immaciated. . She has had an ulceration in her colon and they have gone in and they have either removed the ulcerated area and reattach the two ends of her intestines, or she was given a colostomy. Hence the long recovery time and hospitalization. I would like to add that it truly is none of our business at all and I do hope that she is given the time and space to heal like any of us would.

The statement regarding the Princess of Wales states she requests privacy following her surgery. Why is this not being respected instead of speculation about what the surgery was for.

    • @AskAgainL8ter

Because you don’t generate headlines and advertisement money by respecting privacy.

    • @PM-vd2fs
      @PM-vd2fs Před 4 měsíci

@AskAgainL8ter true its all a bit hypocritical. My annoyance with it is from these news outlets and the so called royal biographers like Ms Levin whining about how privacy should be respected, don't comment on Diana etc when that is how she makes her living. It's insane. As you say they chose to put a statement out knowing speculation etc would occur thus generating income and interest. They could have just said nothing about the surgery and only commented of asked by saying its private no comment.

Speculation about any medical procedure is uncalled for. I hope they both recovery quickly with no problem. Just leave it the way the palace has announced it and walk away.

I advocate for a prostate cancer patient. This is so important as he will influence people to get checked. PC is a sneaky disease and men seem to dismiss symptoms, so go get checked. It can be nothing, or something common as in his case, or cancer. Knowledge is power.
