    I've started (for miniature painting) with double action H&S Ultra (0.2) and it's only OK - the trigger is unfortunately too stiff for precise work - upgrading to H&S Infinity (0.15 & 0.4) made huge difference, though no wonder at that price point. Ultra was great for basic stuff though - priming, basing, diorama work and cleaning it was super easy. Infinity is all that and more, but yeah, $$$.

    Love your channel and your work is incredible!! Just starting out and after months of thought, and some holiday cash that came my way, I decided on the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. Am currently watching your "How To" videos to gain some of your knowledge before I get started. I build models up to 1/24 scale, and want to get into doing some artwork and crafts also once I get my skill level up, and get the feel of using an airbrush comfortably. Will be using Acrylic mainly to start, and pick up other painting mediums later on. Right now, I have Vallejo Model Color, Tamiya, and Mr. Color paints, and will expand as needed.
    Had a question regarding the needles. Can one use different size needles (e.g. 0.2 or 0.5) in the HP-CS? And if so, how effective are they?

    Hi there, I’ve been viewing your series of airbrushing. I’m in the UK. I’ve been painting RC car bodies, both polycarbonate and hard bodies with spray cans. I’ve also been painting cockpits and driver figures, using various standard model brushes. Im looking for a relatively cost effect solution for both PS Tamiya paints and TS Tamiya paints ( or equivalent). I’m a hobbyist, not a professional. I’ve seen the battery powered units and these tick the box in terms of value. The Neat and Handy brand has quite good deals. But are they good enough for the hobbyist doing RC cars, and driver figures? Can you recommend anything for the budget conscious RC car modeller? Appreciate any advice. Take care, keep well and a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

    Being in America I wanted to stay with American brands if at all possible and both Paasche and Badger both still make their airbrushes here and they are widely recognized as two of the best brands in the world. I had purchased a Paasche Talon set that came with all three needle sets it can run because it was a little bit cheaper than the Badger I wanted but I ended up picking up the Badger Sotar 20/20 when that complete set went on sale and have since purchased a second Sotar Set to to have different brushes set up with different colors and/or different needle sets depending on what I was doing. I still use all three guns.
    I recently began doing a lot of bigger pieces like scratch built scenery for tabletop gaming and diorama displays for some of my minis and wanted a trigger type gun to make the longer priming and painting sessions easier on my trigger finger. For some reason the American companies do not make such a gun so I went with the Iawata. No regrets there either.
    As far as spending money for the sake of spending money I had the opportunity to buy a brand new Harder and Steenbeck Infinity at a store closeout for an insane discount and went for it. Save your wallet and don't buy one. It's not a bad airbrush but it is definitely not worth the ludicrous price they want for it if you pay full price. It only comes with one needle set and does not work any better than the Paasche Talon or Badger Sotar 20/20.
    If you want to have a gun on your shelf that tells everyone that walks into your studio that you spent an absurd amount of money on your airbrush get the Harder and Steenbeck Infinity. If you want a gun that just works amazingly with readily available spare parts get the Paasche or Badger.

  • @KrisperKenvue
    @KrisperKenvue Před 2 lety +1

    Hi from Germany! Thanks for this informative video. As you said, the most important factor (besides money) is what you want to do with an airbrush. I just bought a cheap airbrush kit (50 €) from Amazon ("Ganzton Airbrush Set Double Action"), to use for miniature painting. Cheap double action airbrush with 0.4 mm needle/nozle, mini compressor, air hose and the usual "cleaning tools". My main intention was to replace the old rattle cans for applying primer and clear varnish. It gets the job done (even doing the first base color with it) and I got the hang to it quite easy. This kit won't be the right choice for hourlong non-stop painting sessions I guess, the compressor would be down on its knees. At least it has an auto stop and can be switched between 3 PSI settings (~15 to ~30 PSI).
    Now I'm bitten by the airbrush bug and thinking about getting into "full" airbrush painting. So I'm saving up money to upgrade later down the road. A reasonable compressor with an air tank and for the airbrush I'm eyeballing an Harder & Steenbeck Silverline or Evolution. And I need to macgyver a small paint booth to keep my workspace (and my health) nice and clean ;)

    • @AirbrushAsylum
      @AirbrushAsylum  Před 2 lety

      Hallo und wie gehts ? Yes, thats exactly right and this is why cheap airbrushes are great, as they get people into it and then once you give it a try you can then justify spending the $ on a branded brush and the cheap brush will still be useful for backgrounds and or primer. So glad you have been bitten by the airbrush bug it will make your miniature painting SO much easier. All the best and thanks again for your comment.

    I have a cheap unbranded airbrush right now, and I'm going to upgrade very soon. I do scale models from 1/72 up to 1/32 in size. I found the Master Pro Plus kit that comes with 2 gravity feed cup sizes and 3 needle sizes; is the Master brand a good quality? Or would I be better off with a Badger Patriot 105 or Paasche TG-3AS? I'm looking for something that will last me awhile and can handle enamel, acrylic, and various enamel & acrylic based lacquers and varnishes.

      Sheryl Tunnecliff - I would recommend a dental compressor (no jokes). These are normally painted white, but the BIG plus factor is that they run QUIETLY. You can comfortably run one indoors (as dentists tend to do).
      Interestingly, they are available at most compressor dealers and are priced competitively. Just ask for a dental compressor and they should know what you are talking about.

It claims to be 32-psi and it is quite compact, so it doesn't take up an obnoxious amount of space in my kit. So far, I've only blown water through it but it looks promising.
    I wouldn't mind upgrading the brush if it ever konks out... but do you have any opinion on those tiny rechargable compressors? Worth a damn... or not really?

Iwata hpc .35(the hp c considered to be the goat of the airbrush by many) both are all around brushes or the custom microns for better detail work like the Side or top feed .18 or .23. If Asylum suggests something different I would go that route as well. Thanks.

      For got to add the trigger type ps 290 .5 has a round and a fan cap works very good on bigger surfaces. Like priming, painting and clearcoating the bigger the tip size the less you would have to dilute your paint hopes it helps.

      I would recommend the GSI Creos PS.289 or Iwata Eclipse both fantastic all round airbrushes that will last and provide great coverage and fine detail, check the description in this vid for a list of all the airbrushes discussed in order of cheapest to most expensive 👍🏻👍🏻

      Yes , all valid points I don’t have a PS270 so can’t personally comment but all the Creos brushes have blown me away in regards to quality and performance 👍🏻

      Depends on your paint but my preferred ratio is 70% reducer / thinner 30% paint and spraying at around 18-20 psi 👍🏻

    If PS 770/771 had the same trigger and air valve angle as 289 it would be too perfect :)

      @AirbrushAsylum  Před 2 lety

      Great point I do like the trigger angle but I have to say the 770 and 771 are super smooth brushes 👍🏻

      Awesome, I have never used a grex but have heard great things , there are so many quality brands out there I always recommend going with what is comfortable in your hand the right price point and a trigger action that you like as they all vary slightly with the way they perform 👍🏻

    Dude you have to start painting latex mask.
    The money people pay for Michael
    Myers mask repaints is crazy and some people have to wait upto 5 years for artists work because of the demand and backlog. You should start doing them. With you’re skills you would get heaps of business.

      Thanks for the comment and tip, I am planning on airbrushing some masks and 3D items as tutorials on the channel in the coming year so I will definitely keep it in mind 👍🏻👍🏻
