    I surf fish with my 10wt 14' spey rod. It has been a massive learning curve and has made my tempo improve so much. I've realized that tempo and a tight elbow to body have improved my double spey so much. Time on the water is irreplaceable. I think I should set a camera to critique my motion to see where I fall short

    I love when I see one of the few fly fiskers, that have the reel on the right way. I have fly fished on and off for 20+ years, and have still never met one irl, except my self. Thank God I read the right books, before I started out.

    Ian as I’m
    New to salmon fishing my local tackle shop sold me a 7/8 switch rod however the river I’m on is quite wide about 100 yards 150 wide . Am tempted to buy just another Spey rod but could be a waste of money . Also I’ve received the micro Spey line in post so thanks . If I do get 7/8 Spey can I use ‘normal’ Spey line ? Cheers Richard

    When a rod states 250-275 grain skagit line is that only talking about the shooting head grain weight? Or is it shooting head grain weight + tip grain weight need to equal between 250-275?

    • @jleftw
      @jleftw Před 5 lety +1

      Skagit is always the head only, while scandi will both combined.

    It’s totally confusing having a single handed rod in a two handed instructional video. Or at least, I didn’t get it. I’ve watched this video about 10 times and still do not understand his message.

  • @georgeschliessleder1130

    What is the rod you prefer ? Medium fast, fast or ultra fast ??

    What brand and model of rod and line was used for this demo?

    • @hansson3337
      @hansson3337 Před 3 lety +1

      The movie is from the brand Hardy. And Ian Gordon who uses a two handed rod is useing a Hardy Zephrus with a Hardy Ultralite CLS. The line is probably useing a Hardy Scandi Rocket Head. But i am not 100% sure of this.
      And Howard Croston is useing a Hardy Ultralite cadd reel. But i dont know what line and rod they he is using. Could be a Hardy Wraith or Hardy Shadow.

      @@hansson3337 I think Ian Gordon uses long belly lines extensively. A vid from couple years back, czcams.com/video/bIVTplPFNNY/video.html . "Hardy Sintrix 15'1" using 78g 88 foot, very heavy line. Then a 9 weight 55 foot light line. " and from the video it does look a little longer than your regular scandi.

    Should one learn single hand before double hand...I'm not an angler.

    • @DestricaUKGaming
      @DestricaUKGaming Před 2 lety +1

      Not really, but generally people start off with a single hand and naturally progress to spey. You can learn either or though.

    • @ERone43
      @ERone43 Před rokem

      Yes you should learn single hand rod first…that teaches you what a loaded fly rod feels like…then you can move on to a double hand rod where the D-loop loads the rod rather than the false cast

      Never seen much of America have ya mate? Depends on where you are at. Remember we aren’t a small island country like some countries I can think of, we have a bunch of diversity in culture across our states. The Pacific Northwest (Oregon,Washington,Idaho) is where you’ll find a lot of people fly fishing in the US. A good amount of people here use Spey for Steelhead and Coho salmon.

      There are more fly fishers Pennsylvinna than the UK or Ireland. The country makes the finest rods and reels in the world. Payne, Leonard, EC Powell, Winston bamboo rods have no rivals, anywhere. So, please know of what you speak.

    your cast did NONE of the most important elements of a good cast: 1-maximum drift time for least disturbance of water 2 . maximum mend or loop so there is no tugging on line and fish don't see line 3. fly must hit water first, before line.
