I love how the Kurok "voice actor" is clearly trying to not wake his mom up in the next room
Mystery song is Hot Butter - Popcorn
Ohhhhhhhhh, I was gonna say it’s from Crazy Frog!
@@larsonbukowski7145 I think they made their own remix, yeah
the original author is composer Gershon Kingsley. Hot Butter made a cover. The music was also featured on SEGA's Pengo.
@@amerigocosta7452 I think that's where I recognized it from actually
@@larsonbukowski7145 Yeah, EVERYBODY made a remix of it. It actually dates from the 60's being one of the first (if not THE first) synth songs.
missed opportunity to throw in a Dark Syde Phil clip when talking about the DSP.
SRB2 actually received a major update in December 2019 that basically completes the game, and it has a native Android port created by a community member, Jimita.
The game has ports to Dreamcast, DS, Wii, PS3, Switch, it's been a very popular game over 20 years.
you meant 3DS but yeah it's crazy how popular it became over the years of being just a excellent PC only game back in the day doing better than Sonic Team ever could after the Classics/Adventure games.
btw, does the PlayStation 3 port works nowadays this time? because i remember helping out a member years ago on testing out the port that he/she compiled and everytime i tried running it, it never worked and leaves me on a black screen but then again this was when not alot of people had access to buying an (at the time) expensive PS3 and then having to have it on 3.55 just to hack it and stuff.
Link
4:50 An additional note, SRB2 JUST received a proper android port VERY recently.
It already had 3 ports for 2 source ports and a PPSSPP emulator
8:25 It's Gershon Kingsley 's Pop Corn. That song became a meme before the term existed.
It's also like the first electronic song or some shit
8:30 That song is called popcorn; It was a hit around 1970. It was also featured in some versions of the early 80s arcade game by Sega called "Penguin"
So awesome of you to cover all this stuff! I made No Bugs Allowed back in the day and I was very happy to see it here even if just briefly :)
Amazing!!! Your Last PSP video made me take back my old PSP and start playing again, what is very good. This console is amazing, has a lot of Very good games, and now I have a Lot of homebrews to try too
When you mentioned CS PSP, I suddenly got a rush of old memories. I played that homebrew so much!
Also Left 4 Quake!
What a nostalgia trip. Awesome two-parter! Would you consider covering DS homebrew in a future video? Thanks!
MVG was the creator of the PSP Doom port going under the name of Lantus.
He was also responsible for the open source Xbox port of Doom before id and Activision made Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil and the limited edition version of Doom 3 for the Xbox.
Great content man, thanks for this list
Love the psp vids, very well made and informative
17:32 a similar thing was available on Kobo e readers, allowing it to play chest after opening a specific image. This was later patched out with a frameware update
For anyone interested in Counter Strike PSP, there is a freeware game called CS2D which is for PC
It is Counter Strike 2D with some extra features and a built in level editor as well as new game modes, i saw that there are even RP servers so def worth a look
The music you said you probably heard before is "Popcorn" one of the first eletronic music to hit pop charts somewhere in the end of 60s or start or 70s
Love your videos, keep up the good work
I also remember that one fun game called learn japanese, which helped me a lot
During the firmware 5.0.0 to 5.0.3 (I think) days of the psp, they was a user mode exploit called chickhen that worked by using a specially designed tiff file and folder to run unsigned code or homebrew. It worked, but it was a bit tempermental to run.
That homebrew snake is using that exploit to run basically.
This user mode exploit was later turned into a kernal mode exploit, which allowed full access to stuff like clocking the psp higher, iso loading, more powerful homebrews, and custom ps1 eboots.
Also allowed 1000s and 2000s models before the big revision to their motherboard to gain full permanent custom firmware without a Pandora battery. Later 2000s, 3000s, and later the go had only temporary firmware for a long time.
wait, theres perma firmware for the go and 3k?
2:50 you can fully edit the controls to make them closer to other PC FPS ports controls, which for me was ideal.
17:30 Ah I remember .tiff exploits, for a short period of time it was the easiest way to hack your psp until Sony patched out the exploit. Most people used the exploit to enable homebrew but I guess you could also use it to load up whatever other program you wanted, hence the snake game.
the .tif photo formats that you tried to run was originally made for an executable exploit back in the day for firmware 2.0x (before Sony patched it later on) and was originally used to run exactly eLoader before Custom Firmware on PSP became the way to run homebrew without needing XMB or save game data exploits like GTA Liberty City Stories and many others that circumvent around it.
9:07 those are sounds that the commando unit makes in Command and Conquer tiberian dawn.
Laserix 4, you are right! the song is from a clip of "Crazy Frog" (the one in the ocean to be more exact) (Popcorn)
Song that plays there is popcorn 8:31
that song is also in need for madness.
I keep forgetting to download that Sonic Doom Source port. It's fascinating and been worked on for like a decade lol. There's a Mega Man Doom conversion too that looks interesting.
Considering how hard-to-find some of these homebrews are, have you considered archiving these somewhere? It'd be fun to have these all in an easily-accessible zip file on Google Drive or something similar!
I actually just deleted a bunch of it but I do still have the ones I liked in a folder somewhere. I'll consider it.
@@FrameRater nevermind, I was able to get all of the good ones, nzp, rockbot, kurok, space golf, left 4 quake, No bugs allowed, cs psp, smash g psp. For anyone wondering I found all of them on either moddb , github , internet archive. Space Golf I found on a spanish modding forum by googling "Fuzzys Worlf Space Golf 3D PSP".
Omg I remember that Jelly Car homebrew on the Wii.
oh dude rockbot was so fun i used to play it on my psp 2k but it got ported to smartphones and i theres a sequel too
If I remember correctly, there was a Mario 1 emulator on PS3 that could be launched via the video mode. Something along those lines. Maybe the Snake game in the picture mode was something similar.
HomeBrew sounds like a beer.
I believe that's where the term came from, I don't really like it but it fits I guess.
Should be a slang term for moonshine
@@midievalcat7770 it is
Can you start doing videos for home brew on various systems? I’m curious to see what homebrew/emulators you turn up/your thoughts on it for systems like the original Xbox, Dreamcast, ps2, DS, Xbox 360, ps3, and older consoles/handhelds
PSP is the only one I have real knowledge of (kind of for Wii, a little for Xbox and very loosely for PSVita) so I kind of doubt it, but maybe in time.
Really want to play that Space Golf, though no idea where to find it
The song is a cover of popcorn, a song of the genius Gershon Kingsley
Homebrew should be a slang term for moonshine
Also, I know it's impossible to do it now that the video is released but in the future, it would be nice for the vertical PSP footage to be vertical instead of horizontal :)
Your delivery and content feels like a perfect hybrid between Tech James and Thor High Heels. Haha great video man, thanks for all the tips. Btw newer knew people really spent time with psp web browser (and flash). It was a horrible experience and just memory of trying to write something on it gives me a headache. Already at that time i used to prefer mobile phones. Sony Ericsson were portable homebrew java powerhouses.
I had a PSP before I had a smart phone and that thing was my go-to porn device >.>
@@beardalaxy same! lol
Dude your content just keeps getting better and better👍...you get five 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆s out of five!
Programmers really know how to make some interesting things on homebrew. Probably the most interesting one here for me is Zombie Crisis.
Also Kurok sounds hilarious! 😂
8:22 The song is named "Popcorn"
Late to the party, and probably been answered already, but the music you think you've heard before at 8:22 is called "Popcorn" and has many different versions.
That song is also in a Megacat game called Old Towers I played on the Evercade and I thought the same exact thing
Oh god, that MSN messenger sound...brings back countless hours of wasted time, chatting with friends, on my old COMPAQ laptop.
Can't wait for a Dingux OS ports video ;)
Thats weird, my version of doom psp has music, works pretty good actually. There is also heretic and hexen, although i think those don't have music in any version
There was a really cool Wii game called Blastworks where you could've unlocked rRootage and other smups.
Was hopping you'd bring up solitude but great video regardless
The laserix one's music was in a game called Aqua Digger 3D. At least thats where I heard it. Also it kinda sounds like crazy frog
the music of Laserix 4 is Kraftwerk's Popcorn
Wooow I dream every night about MVG commeting under one of my videos XD
Lucky guy !
and the song you are searching for is popcorn by jean michel jarre (and crazy frog)
That song at 8:40 is Popcorn, You probably know it from the Crazy Frog music video
I'd give GSquare's dev a beer ... i loved that game
Great video! Hope you'll do nintendo ds homebrew video in the future.
No mention of OpenBOR? That shit was my jam back in the day.
8:25 Every body in gangsta, until psp starts playing C64 Sid chip version of Hot Butter - Popcorn
The song from Laserix 4 is just a remix of Popcorn by Hot Butter.
I'm a simple man. I see a new new video from frame after biking for an hour, I click.
loooool forgot about that Push the Red Button game. Ahhh the good ol flash game days
All these ports and you forgot to review Ultima 7 port on psp. I remember being impressed by it back in the day.
8:25 the song is called popcorn
flash on the PSP, you just activated a memory that i didn't know existed
Cool video :D I used to have PSP
Early in your video you mentioned a game had a theme that sounded really familiar- I have no idea what the name is but it sounds exactly like the theme in a late night American radio show that starts at 10pm called "Coast to Coast AM with George Noori". They talk about a lot of weird stuff like aliens and conspiracies.
Edit: Listen to: Chase, from Midnight Express
Will these work through emulation?.. not having to deal with cfw limitations may be a more viable option with ppsspp. Just a thought, enjoyed the video..
FrameRate + Tipsy Duck + IrateGamer and AVGN, on the same day?
Niceee.
when is the next video in the gamecube library series coming out?
Wait, which version of Doom for PSP is by MVG? He doesn't mention it in his "everything runs Doom" video. I have "PSPDoom" v1.4 by ChillyWilly, and it supports music. I also have a "Doom PSP" v.005 by Greg Berkhof (going by the readme), and there's a MIDI patch for that. (I have Doom Legacy also, but these other two are closer to a Chocolate Doom experience) Have you tried either of those?
There is now an official Android port on the SRB2 site
Worm Warrior is actually a remake of an old Activision Intellivision game known as Worm Whomper.
how'd you find the background for your psp?
i actually have a copy of that PSP counter strike in the quake engine
“I Have No Idea What I Doing?” - FrameRator 2020
Some srb2 downloads dont have the most important files. My psp e1000 works, though its very laggy
I play psp through my ps vita using adrenaline, this can then play any homebrew the psp can. this means it's emulating more systems from within an emulator mind flip
Kinda interested in a Flash on Wii video. I suspect it'll run flash way better since it was designed to be able to run Flash well enough for CZcams, back when that was the only way to watch CZcams videos.
11:25 Am I the only one distracted by the fact that you're playing as Team Galactic's Cyrus in an arena of Gen 3 assets?
Haha I knew those sprites must had been from something
@@FrameRater Yeah, Gens 3 and 4 of Pokemon were my jam growing up lol
8:25 its called Popcorn
If you really want to play board games on the psp then get ultimate board game collection it’s has so many games
The song in Laserix 4 reminded me of that weird Russian song, the one with the funny looking guy
8:33 it's "Popcorn"
You should make a video about psvita homebrew games
Someone ported Basilisk 2 to the PSP so you can actually run full fledged Macintosh system 7/8.1
Should have tried Chao Garden Portable or Shox PSP.
I was young and stupid but that was my introduction into development :)
Would most of these run on Adrenaline for PS Vita? I know you're using a PSP Go but Adrenaline would fix alot of FPS controller issues especially with that second analog stick.
Adrenaline would not fix the problems. The second analog stick does not work with adrenaline due to the fact that it is not an emulator it is just a psp in the body of a vita. All the psp homebrew should still work on Adrenaline.
9:05 Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn Commando quotes
Also, I have a copy of that Quake Counter-Strike mod if you would like it.
Awesome overview series, could you please make a list of the emulators available for PSP??
Already did, check out my PSP emulators video.
@@FrameRater Great, I did not know, I leave the link for others who want to see it, saludos! czcams.com/video/n5zd_IArNzk/video.html
The tiff snake was patched back in the 5.00 versions.
9:29 so its a Cameltry/on the Ball clone of a series by Taito.
Great video! Is there any chance of You sharing all the homebrew you've collected? It's hard to find it all, but I would like to play them and on top of that - archive them all! Would it be possible for You to zip it all and share?
Ask a guy known as PSPMan3000, I gave him the package.
Nice AVGN reference.
Do you plan on doing 3DS homebrew stuff?
Already did!
well good thing I got slender the arrival on the switch
8:24 - what is this song, I'm sure I heard this song before
This song is from a codex installer (a installer of a cracked game)
Keygen music. A whole musical genere
why didn't you put music in doom MVG?
I was gonna say that the mistery song was "Crazy Frog - Popcorn" but apparently that is a remix... childhood ruined...
Hey, I do have a SRB2 PSP version that actually works just fine in real hardware (I use both PSP 2000 and 3000). If you are interested I can give you a download link!
can i have the link please
link?
It's weird that you mentioned PSX Duke, but not PSX Doom, which is also a good option for DOOM on PSP.
I've always had issues getting it to work properly, softlocks on the LOADING screen.
I think I still have that 3D CS homebrew game on my PSP. It's not that good, there are no bots and the framerate isn't so good either. The weapons were broken too. Maybe I just have an old version, but idk
