  • "Dreams" is a song by Van Halen released in 1986 from the album 5150. It was the second single from that album, and it reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that year. Nine years after its original release, "Dreams" introduced the band to a new generation of fans when it appeared in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie and on its soundtrack album.
"Dreams" was written during the Sammy Hagar era of the band. It was performed during most tours featuring Hagar, and during an interview with Hagar for Rolling Stone featuring questions from fans, Hagar said that "Dreams", along with "Right Now", were his favorite Van Halen songs, with "Dreams" being his most favorite if you pushed him.
The Balance tour was dubbed the "Ambulance" Tour by Eddie Van Halen due to his hip injury caused by avascular necrosis, and his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen wearing a neck brace for most of the tour, due to rupturing three vertebrae in his neck. Consequently, Eddie was a lot more static on stage. This would be the group's last tour with Sammy Hagar on vocals until 2004.
The opening night in Pensacola, and a combination of footage from the two Toronto shows at the 16,000 seat Molson Amphitheatre were broadcast on Pay-Per-View.

Sammy was asked what is his favorite song with Van Halen......"Dreams" was the one. Same with me. If your day doesn't get better after listening to this song.....you got a real problem.

It’s 5150 tiiiiiiime! My favorite version of this song ever. Despite the infighting and Eddie and Alex’s ailments, the band was still rocking and this proves it.

Great era of Van Halen, such a difficult song to sing. The sort of song that shreds the vocal cords

10 years after the song was written and recorded you can tell Hagar had lost some of the higher register in his voice. It shows a lot in this song in particular because so much of it was sung at the top of his range. He was still a solid pro though (and his voice was still remarkably good for a guy pushing 50 years old), and the rest of the band could still play too.

Besides the song, which is one of my favourites ever, I love this video because Alex looks like my father who passed away almost 30 years ago.

Damn,....this ''Upscaled'' version is so much clearer than the one that has been on CZcams for years. Also,....I never realized how well Eddie could dance around while playing. Some of his moves are quite impressive and unique.

Sammy Hagar was such an awesome singer. David Lee Roth is it OK Singer who is full of himself. He is always been a selfish person. Now he is attacking Eddie Van Halen son and I’m not shocked that he has done that. He keeps trying to say that he was the one who made the band. They only kept him in the beginning because his family had money to help them start their careers. But he has been a difficult person to deal with since the beginning. Sammy is a great singer. I love them when they were together and they had some great music together unfortunately they didn’t stay together unfortunately. I just got sick when they brought him back. Sammy, just wanted to spend some time with his wife before they went to the recording studio. I know that he just wanted to enjoy his time with his wife before he took off for the next tour. I saw them four nights at cow Palace twice back to back nights I believe it was Friday and Saturday. And I saw them two nights in a row that same week. I worked so hard to buy the tickets and they were so good together and they showed each person that was there they had respect for each other. I was super fan of Sammy Hagar before he joined Van Halen. I was not sure what he would sound like in the band but they were very good musicians together. Sammy is not the greatest guitarist but he was a great front man who loved being in front of the crowd. I remember him playing in San Francisco a cow palace I believe it was. And he blew up a Trans Am singing that song Trans Am. It was so funny and he played great music too
