Our Scout troop is faith based and chartered by a church. When the social decisions started, we lost roughly on third of our pack (Cubs; troops are the older Scouts). When a pack leader decided that girls should be allowed to bridge into our troop, another quarter of the troop threatened to leave if the troop was integrated. The separate girl troop moved away within a year, largely because non-believer parents were allowed to lead and pushed out the Christian leadership.
Parents who want to enroll their kids in a Scout program need to visit area troops or packs and choose the one that aligns to their values. As much as the choice to remove "boy" is a business one, the idea of "adapt or die" might actually be "adapt and die." Time will tell.

    Eagle Scout 👈
I thought they changed the name to "Scouts" over 10 years ago. I don't think my closest friends even know that i was in the BSA. I have no motivation to bring it up. Now that I'm saved, which happened a few years after graduating the program, my identity is entirely in Christ and the BSA is in the distant past. The fact that i was never confronted with my sin and thethe Gospel in either the BSA or the SBC is a testament to how uselessly secular those organizations are today. Don't put your trust in institutions. Surround yourselves with a few solid Christian friends who will help you on your walk and that includes being Christian influences on your kids. Can't beat good community.

From Tiger cubs to finishing my Eagle a month before my 18th Birthday... I was soo excited when my son was born looking forward to cub scouts . Until I heard about the girls in cub scouts.. I finally got past that, then the diversity and inclusion merit badge (required for eagle) was announced... And I wrote them off for good. It was absolutely heartbreaking. I have been absolutely livid with BSA.

Cant say enough about how amazing it is. The girls version has been around for lobger. American Heritage Girls teaches girls similarly. Our troop just had a veteran Girl Scout troop leader (53 years of tenure) come along with on our troop campiut and help with badges. She was blpwn away with how respectful and helpful our girls are. She said, "Thos is the vision Girl Scouts had. It's what we used to be 30 or 40 years ago."

I spent 25 years working as a scoutmaster assistant scoutmaster I was even a junior assistant scoutmaster. I begin back in the 1960s and I must say I have been sorely disappointed in the boy Scouts of America for allowing girls to enter the program they already have their own program they’ve destroyed the greatest young men’s program that was ever created for a young boy to help him to become a man and to be self-reliant, and to accomplish tasks that most young men find difficult an eagle scout is someone you looked for on the résumé to hire because you know that they would commit to the job at hand I am very saddened by this and think it was the biggest mistake that goes right along with removing prayer from schools and now we understand that lesson than 25% of 20 to 30 year olds even go to worship anymore, which is a sad commentary on what we’ve done to our children!!

I don't know where you are at in life now but I just want to be clear that they do not represent Christian belief or practice. There is grace and forgiveness possible for even wicked men like them but Jesus Christ made it clear that what people who hurt children deserve is worse than having a giant rock tied around your neck and thrown into the ocean. Real followers of Jesus do not support people or groups who do such things. We pray for and do our best to bring comfort and help to those who were hurt.

Sadly missing some facts here, historical facts of the organization are important, like BP's sister was key to starting a youth program for girls, the cooperation with Campfire Girls (started be BSA's founders wives) since 1910s, women leaders have been around since 1930's, Coed Explorers and Coed camp staff being a thing for over 50 years, and Scouting/USA was the named branding in the late 1970s, etc, etc. This is a marketing name, they will still have to use "Boy Scouts of America" legally on all operational and business as that's in the Congressional Charter, and good luck getting Congress to agreeing to change it or on anything other than spending money.

My grandson is finishing up scouting and then his troop will disband. Mainly from lack of interest. His troop still goes by “Boy Scouts,” but it’s held in a church basement and I’m not sure it would remain if it was termed Scouting America. My son isn’t a believer but even he wouldn’t go for the new way of things. The daughter of a pastor friend got into Boy Scouts because of the usual Girl Scout argument. But she is right. Girl Scouts don’t do anything. She wanted to learn archery and all the stuff that goes with camping, etc. I think she might have received a little push back from the kids but I’m not sure. I think she’s the tom boy of her family but she is a godly young woman who loves being in church, loves the Lord.

The problem with the Orangutan story is that some Orangutans have been raised by people or have lived around people, and that changes their behaviour because they copy the actions of humans. Orangutans will use tools they've seen humans use, like an ax, they will wipe windows if they've seen humans wipe windows, and they will rub themselves down with various things, especially if they've seen humans do this. This doesn't mean they know why they are doing these things, they are just mimicking what they've seen humans do. Finding Orangutans that have had absolutely no contact with humans is actually quite difficult. Orangutans also mimic each other, so even if an ancestor has had contact with humans, they could've picked up some mimicked actions that they then teach to their children. This is an important thing to remember when scientists write papers about what they've observed Orangutans doing.

Unpopular take but I'm taking it. I am extremely grateful that BSA is a Boys and Girls organization now.
I live in a small town and being small, we have two scouting orgs that are local - GSA and BSA/SA.
The closest non-GSA/BSA scouting type groups were all a good 50+ miles away which is a hard no.
So why did we put our daughter in a Cub Pack(and now aged up to Troop) and not join her to whatever the GSA equivalent is? Quite simply its the mission - in crude but simple terms - GSA mission seems intended to produce feminists, while BSA/SA mission is to produce leaders in general.
The national organization not-withstanding, the local leadership sets the tone and our local BSA/SA leadership is excellent (leaders in their respective churches as well as Pack/Troop)
For Cubs, the Girls/Boys are segregated in dens, but we come together at pack events.
For the troop, numbers at the moment mean integration, but next year its likely there will be greater opportunities for keeping them entirely segregated on activities, coming together for ceremony and fundraising.

What's with this absurd angle that the only reason the number of boy scouts is declining is due to a name change and aiming to be more inclusive? Did Answers in Genesis forget that in the last decade social media and the gaming industry have made leaps and bounds in capturing children's attention? Along with the scouts competing with youth sports organisations?
Between being too inclusive for your tastes and a general decline of interest in outdoorsy activities.. which of the two do you think would matter more for an organisation centred around outdoors activities? From what I've seen the girl scouts organisation counts have also declined similarly despite a lack in name change

No one asked these Christians to leave BSA. They left on their own accord because they lost a vote in 2012 or 2013 (I can't remember which year but it was around there). Some of them formed a new organization called Trail Life. Others went into similar pre-existing organizations like Royal Rangers or formed new denomination-specific groups as did the LDS community. In my view, these people sold their children short because none of these groups have the history, prestige, respect or universal recognition that BSA has.
It's also important to note that BSA's woes around sexual abuse happened decades ago, when the conservative Christian groups were in control. Today, there are safeguards in place that make sexual abuse nearly impossible to get away with.
