Flamethrower Engineer is a blast. (fortuitous pun!) I have three engineers and leveled #2 and #3 on Flamethrower. The best way to improve on killing enemies is to kill them with fire. It made me a little sad when I turned them over to their elites. I think I'll go put my Asura Condi Holo back in a FT build and have a throwback "feel the Flamethrower love!" party.
The Flammenwerfer! It werfs Flammen!
I'll add one thing that I think people need to be aware of with Flamethrower. The FT skill ranges are kind of all over the place (425, 600, 300, 600 and then radius 180). I think some people are fooled into thinking of the FT Engi as a mid-range fighter but I recommend that they instead think of it as "loose melee." You can take a step or two back but you don't want to be too far back or important skills (esp since they are the CC skills) miss. If you're in a fight that needs range, sub in the Elite Mortar Kit for Supply Crate to get a good condi range weapon that will still work well with Backpack Regenerator for passive sustain.
Pinning this as its the kind of thing I probably should have talked a bit about in the video. These comments about ranger are BIG TRUE
I still believe this is a severely under-rated channel and I hope that changes because you're really good at explaining things and you're thorough, too. And your sense of humor is definitely a plus. I have 3 Engis so I definitely try it on one of them.
Thanks for the kind words :)
Underrated or not I am just super happy with the response and support from people. The response has been amazing.
Just subscribed because I'm enjoying the vibe. Also the information helps spawn further ideas of my own, which are new after my ten year hiatus from GW2.
I'll add that the fashion break made me laugh... and also scribble down which dyes I might want later. Many thanks.
Been playing this game for years and love your channel. Keeps things fresh playing a bunch of the different builds meta or not. Keep up the outstanding work
So glad you are enjoying. More to come
Ty for the time you spend putting builds together, use them on various class's and love them :)
Glad you enjoy it! More to come :)
i appreciate this guide so much. ive been wanting to get into engineer cause i love the class identity and now i can finally give it a fair shot! thanks!
So happy it's of value to you :)
Great vid man, subbed!
That intro... *chef's kiss* 👌
Build is spot on too, incredibly similar to what I just used to prep a fresh engi for EoD and just rushed through the HPs.
Great content.
I was super surprised how truly viable it is, in its own right
I've been wanting to try a working flamethrower engi build. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Totally my pleasure :)
The intro alone is golden!
I am incredibly happy I found this. Engineer was the only class i boosted, have leveled all the rest, and has been sitting there in his boosted armor for 2 months, untouched. Until today. Set this build up and have been running open world story missions. Such a great way to utilize a boosted character without requiring any specialization. Now I can take my time and enjoy the story while unlocking specs and saving up for EoD. Thank you so much.
I cannot express to you how happy this comment makes me.
When you get a chance look at the Celestial Holosmith build once you have the hero points.
@@MindOverMeta Its funny that you mention that as it was the recommended video while i was watching this one. So while i was watching that, I ran an HoT and PoF train, and unlocked both scrapper and holosmith haha. I am still fairly new, learning each class as i level them and your builds have come in handy. They are simple yet fun to play. My problem is i don't have the gold to gear up each character, got 7/9 to 80 in the 3 months ive been playing. So far loving them, having a hard time deciding on one or two that i really like.
@@Balabah13 My biggest reccomend on the gear is you start looking at farming up some stat selectable trinkets at this point. Gear several Alts at once can be painful. If you haven't done the "return to" acheivements they will dump down a ton of map currencies you can use there though.
@@MindOverMeta I appreciate the info. I will certainly look into those. I know I did the return to ones for the skyscale unlock. Other than that i do not believe i have finished any. I am always open for advice that will help me move forward in the game. Thank you again.
Been trying to pick a main for 2 weeks but after watching a few of yours it definitely helped me make up my mind for a main.
Glad to help :)
Yeah asura engineer is just a blast lol . Gives off a ratchet and clank kinda feel witha bit of stitch from lilo and stitch mixed in :)
Really solid core build. It will definitely be good for new players who want to tackle difficult solo content. Or for vets who want to just do some easy chill grinding.
I personally took this build and switched up a few traits to make it a grenade build. Still get the kit healing from alch, all the Boons, and with grenade spam I can maintain 25 might easy and anywhere between 10 to 20 vulnerability, plus a ton of bleeds. I am missing the burning from flamethrower though, I might have to make some more tweaks
there are a couple combos you can do with the Bomb kit that will also give you decent condi damage.
Love hearing what you did with this., Glad you enjoyed.
Finished my dailies, about to go to be at a decent hour... Oh look, new video! You bastard!
I have a boost from End of Dragons pre-order, now I just need to pick a race. Dammit, I was going through Ice Brood Sage on my Dagger/Axe Axe/Dagger Spellbreaker, I DIDN"T NEED ANOTHER ALT!
In my defense, it's a shorter video ;)
@@RecklessFables Everyone needs another alt.
@@MindOverMeta I have all day at work to agonize over going with an Asura for the tech theme or Charr for the fire theme. I just wish I didn't have so much trouble jumping with those races. The Charr movement animations throw me off and I have no idea where an Asura's hitbox really is.
@@RecklessFables Asura engineer. What's not to love?
Man this is the same build I was using but not near as optimal gameplay wise like you showed. Also in the Explosion trait line I run "Short Fuse" and "Aim Assisted Rocket", but even the base skills are the same and in the same order.
Super helpful guide, I am still leveling it to 80 since I tested stuff and didn't want to use tomes for it
I have had a real ton of fun with this one actually. I dont know maybe just the engi in me.
you can't procc Aim Assisted Rocket with FT thought
@@wisniamw Nope but I use a lot the Dual Pistols, at least half the time and keep switching between Flamethrower and Dual Pistols
Core Engi OP
pls nerf
thanks for this! this is exactly what i was looking for. How did u get dual pistols? it gave me a celestial rifle when i boosted. thanks again!
You can totally grab other pistols of the TP or craft them
Hi Great build i am going to try it but question about sigils you say the sigil of celebrity process often but wondering what that happens from? what is considered as disabling a foe? and do we crit enough to get the might from the str one to make it worth it? I know you know better then i do as i am new so i am wondering not complaining? Thanks in advance and great job on your builds i have looked at quite a few and most i want to try :)
am i missing something? you took some explosion talents, but the only thing with explosive tag is flamethrower 2? and then you suggested to take aim assisted rocket, but do we even fire any missiles?
Great video, I just rolled a Boosted Engineer and studied many different builds, I have used some of your other profession builds with success. Are there any changes to this build to take into account any patch updates? Secondly is it possible to slot in “throw mines” with seriously spoiling this build?
If you wanna find out you gotta fuck around
I added in a Thumper Turrent and finally managed solo a champion, the Blue Ooze (group content) in Frostgorge Sound. undoubtably an enjoyable build. I particularly like it when you are surrounded by enemies and they just keep dropping. Please keep up the great work.
Actually I do have one question about this build, and in particular any builds that I have seen online. They never seem to explain the aquatic portion of the builds. This build in particular focuses on burning, pistol, use of kits, etc. For aquatic is there a weapon of choice, or kit maybe, as well as secondary skills that should be picked that might work with this build?
Going to be honest... I very very rarely spend any time underwater. It's a part of the game I dislike.
That said, the speargun on engi is always serviceable.
No real trait reccomendations
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for...but I have a heck of a time keeping my flamethrower aimed on the target. This video makes it clear that it's possible, but I can literally stand still in front of a target with auto-attack and miss repeatedly. Ruins my enjoyment of the profession, to be honest.
Just a follow-up...something very weird. Those aiming issues are on a Charr. I tried running around with an Asura FT Engi and didn't have the same issue at all.
This isn't the first time I've seen a Flamethrower build. I've tried it and the constant stability is really nice.
But I wish I could find a good dual pistol build that doesn't rely on kits. I got the new Flame Serpent skin for the pistol for my Engineer, but the dual pistols seem to be so weak in comparison to the rifle when soloing PVE.
Try my Cele Holo build with Pistoi/Pistol instead of the sword/Pistol
czcams.com/video/CeUjAetrhsM/video.html
Pistol /pistol has awesome burning dmg ,use with gadget rocket booots
Any recommendation on what kit to use underwater?
I reccomend avoiding water at all costs
What do you think about condition damages gear instead of celestial with all of this burning damages ?
This build is specifically set up for boons in addition to the condi damage...so realistcally we would be talking about ritualists or plague doctors.... honestly a proper condi setup would use a much different build
@@MindOverMeta Well I would like to do a flamethrower turrets build instead of elixirs , like rifle turret and flame turret , supply kit and like shrapnel trait from explosives x) I would like to know if in that case playing condi is more or less interesting then celestial ; I always wanted to do a flamethrower + turret build just for fun xD
@@Farengo the real answer here would be to do it and test. The only turrets i usually use are rifle turret on power builds, thumper turret if i am fucked for cc and supply crate cause its great. On the whole turrets just arent great. Im not saying it wouldnt be viable... i am saying it would look and play different than this specific build and you should do the science.
@@MindOverMeta Okay , thx !
so i was following this guide, booted up the game, made a new engineer character, used 80 boost, but theres no pistols on the "Level 80 Mentor" guy, now what
Do you recommend getting a celestial gear set over something like berserker's which might be meta/raidable later on if I'm not using a level 80 boost, or is this basically a boost build first and foremost?
I'm not sure what to go for first 🤯
This is boost build first. Onboard into this because gear is free then look at a second set of gear in the right stat set
Aim Assistant Rocket will not work will with this build. It has a range thresh hold of 450 meaning the target must be at that range or further to proc and flame thrower is a weapon all about being up close and personal
It will absolutely proc off the pistol attacks and is a better value than the other two given the lack of explosions and need for vit is the best choice of the three.
But thanks for the feedback.
Alright, I boosted an Asura and now I'm running around the Silverwastes with this broken freak'n flamethrower that puts my Berserker to shame.
Hahaha... press 1 to win :)
@@MindOverMeta Seriously, with Zerk I have to work harder to stay alive, even in Trailblazer/Rabid gear. I just kite in gentle circles and burn things with this. Going to have to give it a real test tonight.
I just soloed the Mastery Point that is behind the Deadhouse. I basically facerolled the skills and circle-strafed. I'm using the boost gear, which means just exotics and the runes are still Runes of the Engineer. I'm glad I didn't know about this until now or I'd never have learned to dodge or what mechanics are. I did buy pistols but I don't use them and they don't even have sigils yet. I feel like I have to go back with my Rev to see if I'm just picking easy targets.
@@RecklessFables I think that spot beneath the Deadhouse is actually a really great place for testing and I am stealing your idea and am gonna use it
So yeah, I went to Fire Djinn's and the hardest part was trying to get 4 of them to follow me at once.
