    We’ve been talking a lot about Encanto on this channel, but honestly I couldn’t stop these discussions until we got the chance to talk about Pepa and Julieta’s husbands because these guys are the best! FĂ©lix and AugustĂn are the coolest, nicest, and most supportive husbands and fathers around, but did Abuela think they were the right choices for daughters when she first met them?
    Have a magical day, fun people! #encanto #imaginative

    I don't think Abuela cared much about who her children were marrying, just that they were indeed getting married so they could continue the line. But here is the thing, I don't even think she cared as much about preserving the family line 10 years ago as she does in present day as we have no evidence that she pressured Bruno to marry, she seemed fine to let one of her only 3 children not have kids. I think it was after Bruno left and Mirabel was giftless that she realized that her legacy could die out and hence way she was trying to pressure her first born grandchild to wed and have babies as soon as possible. Even so though she never forced Isabela to marry Mariano, she just encouraged it and Isabela went along.

    • @GadereneLegion
      @GadereneLegion Pƙed 2 lety +197

      I’m not sure she would have wanted Bruno to get married. She didn’t want more of him. In a way, she was probably glad when he disappeared.
      Anyway, I think her love for the magic and gifts overwhelmed her love for the family. That’s what changed. Mirabel and Bruno were mistakes not to be repeated. She wanted to choose an ideal mate for perfect Isabella to get the most ideal babies possible. Five babies (if the groom had his way) who could keep the Encanto safe and take up the slack for any kids with less desirable gifts. She wanted to keep the family safe, but it’s like she forgot she wanted to keep them safe because she loved them.

    something others have pointed out is that despite being accident prone, if you watch carefully during the movie Augustin never actively asks Julieta to heal him the way the villagers line up. He doesn't even complain about the injuries -- Julieta has to actively notice herself and give him the food.
    For Julieta, it must've been nice to have someone she could help but who wasn't demanding it of her.

      @@Vipre- Or maybe she was drawn to him because he's never demanded help from her like the others in town? Maybe he'd always tried to brush off his injuries to not bother her as she's busy with a lot of others and she actively had to reach out and heal him without him asking (which could of brought them closer as they deeply cared for each other).
      If he was like the rest of town he'd still be lining up to whine about booboos and get free health food for them, but he never bothers..he'll accept the food but he never goes out of his way to ask her for it. The others in town should of gotten used to her healing them on sight like he had yet they haven't which makes me feel like he was just never the type to bother asking her for help (maybe he likes to deal with his own problems, or was shy about asking, who knows).

      True. Although the mental picture of these two growing up and Augustin showing up in her food line for healing almost every day would be cute, I think. I can imagine a younger Julieta making a face at him and being like: “You end up in this line a lot. Why is that?”
      Augustin: There were bees EVERYWHERE.
      And every day, or almost every day, Julieta would see the end result of Augustin getting into some mad adventure doing normal tasks like chopping firewood or going downstairs for a glass of milk. It was never because he got into a fight or something violent, though. I bet that in most cases, he was trying to be helpful, just like in the movie, and that made her warm up to him over time. I think there’s something endearing about him trying and failing and getting up to try again that would’ve won her over.

      Antonio's door design is totally different compared to the rest, not only his image as kid, but also the framing. There are two theories around. First one, casita can foresee their adult, prime selves and put it on the door image. Antonio image is a kid because casita will be broken and cant foresee more than him as a kid. Second theory is, because the rest of the family touched abuela's candle before opening the door, so the door envisioned by abuela's design (candle flame frame, and their prime selves). Antonio touched the candle AND mirable, who is the second magic keeper, and Antonio's door envisioned by mirabel's ideal.. Which is whatever antonio is now

Listen, I think Abuela liked FĂ©lix both because he was funny and charismatic but also because he knew how to calm Pepa down. She definitely would of noticed the decrease in rain and thunderstorms in the Encanto after Pepa fell in love with FĂ©lix. Whilst AgustĂn was similar to FĂ©lix in the sense he brought his lover, Julieta, happiness it wasn’t as necessary for Julieta to have a husband that made her happy as much as it was important for Pepa. Say if AgustĂn wasn’t there for Julieta the same way FĂ©lix is for Pepa, it wouldn’t affect anyone because Julieta’s emotions don’t affect the weather and by extension the Encanto like how Pepa’s does. Also while FĂ©lix gets along with everyone especially Abuela, AgustĂn would probably chose his wife and children over Abuela and her rules in a heartbeat. It’s also possible Abuela didn’t like how clumsy AgustĂn is.

      I also think Julieta was Abuela’s golden child, so she would have had higher standards for who she would want Julieta to marry. I like to think that Julieta was drawn to Agustin because he could have been the first person in her life who loves her for her, not just because she’s the village healer.

    Let me say this. As someone from colombia, if the abuela didn’t approve, they wouldn’t have gotten married in the first place. Family is CRAZY important to us, so yeah, your parents’ approval is key. They will not force anyone onto you (they might suggest or try to set you up, but never force), but they WILL tell you loud and clear if they approve of your relations (not only romantic, but friends too).

    I feel like the reason Abuela was more approving of Felix than Augustin is bcz Felix helped Pepa calm down and is always supporting here and helping with her powers while Augustin was really clumsy so the way she saw it, Felix was helping Pepa keep her powers under control so she can better use them for the town while Augustin was too dependent on Julieta's healing so she saw him as a distraction from Julieta's role in the town.

    Encanto was really special and relatable to what people go through now, Being the Foundation of a Legacy(Cassita/Pedro) Loss of a loved one/finding joy again(Alma) Insecurities/finding time to be vulnerable and relax(Luisa), Forced Perfection/Discovering there is more to one than their talents or looks (Isabella), It Also Taught Us To: Listen to Your Heart(Dolores), Finding Yourself/Being true to who you are(Camillo), Communicating with the ones who are most quiet/animals or people(Antonio), Understanding Your Emotions and how they work(Pepa), Healing the soul/helping others (Julieta) Seeing into yourself and helping others to see themselves as their best version of their future self(Bruno) Supporting and caring for the past(Felix) and Loving Your Children, gifted or not (Augustine). But above all, Acceptance, Self-Love and giving/receiving Family Support(Mirabel)! The candle could not only represent just the magic or miracle, but: Love Shines Brightest Of All!

    In families from Spanish, Portuguese and Italian ascent, it is customary for the daughters to remain close to the mother, so often the husbands move closer to their in-laws. Some Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America give the children their mother’s surname last (instead of their father’s surname), which would explain why they were all “Madrigal”.

    • @mplahke
      @mplahke Pƙed 2 lety

      In spanish-speaking countries the kids usually have this structure: first name, dad's last name, mom's last name (+ added generations, so complete names can get long). But in everyday world, it's first name + dad's last name. Example is Markos Molitsas Zuniga from Daily Kos--his mother's last name is Zuniga.
      The wives go this way: first name, birth family last name + "de"+ husband's last name, so Pepa Madrigal de (Felix last name)

      Not exactly; for sure a close family who lives in the very same house can develop a strong bond, and remember that Isabela was the first grandchild to be born, months before Dolores, so FĂ©lix and Pepa had a chance to bond with her. I am a firstborn grandchild too, and my aunt and her late husband lived across the street; my mom says that they were elated to have a niece and spend time with me. Their first daughter was born four years after me, so they were already experienced with dealing with a baby. In that line of thought, maybe Pepa practiced changing diapers to baby Isabela, and FĂ©lix took turns with her feeding/burping/playing with the baby, in preparation for Dolores' arrival. I can see why they loved Isabela, and having a sweet pet name for her is not out-of-place

      @@dhalmahernandez_dy Take a step back, think of it from Dolores' point of view. Isabella is my father's angel who am I to my father. In the movie it is shown how Mirabel is pushed to the side in the family do to her not having powers, but that comment of Felix makes me think Dolores understand how it feels to be pushed aside cause her power is not seen as special like her cousin. While people talk about Mirabel and Bruno , I think the fact that Dolores didn't bad mouth Bruno and kept it a secret that he lived in the house. Show that Dolores understands Bruno's place in the family more than Mirabel did at the start of the movie

    she may not have been as intense with her daughters as she was with Isabela because she maybe didn't know back them that the miracle kept being passed down to the children. With Isabela she was already aware that new generations also got gifts from the miracle and she was also already worried that the miracle was getting snuffed out, what better way to try to reignite it than by having more kids..... at that point she was also already driven to push the family (she viewed them helping the community as a way to 'pay back' and keep their miracle) so likely more driven to get the 'perfect' partner for her grandchildren.

    Even though she was too judgemental and critical, she wasn't SO stubborn that she was unwilling to allow love to flourish. She changed in the end so quickly, and let's be honest, someone who was really set in stone would NOT have changed their tune so quickly/easily. The fact she could admit when she was wrong says a lot about her character. She's hardly flawed, she just got caught up in stress like the rest of her family, and handled it differently. She did butt heads with uuh... (forgot his name, father of Mirabel) for a second when he said "I was protecting my daughter" but that was more or less him just standing his ground against her, and she didn't have much of a leg to stand on.
    I love these characters so much.
