  • In this video, a mostly complete rear suspension refresh on the Jeep. I'll be replacing the control arms, shocks and springs. Below you can find the torque specs for all the components involved. The WJ Grand Cherokee will have a very similar procedure.
    Torque specs (all in ft-lbs)
Shock upper nut: squish the rubber bushing
    Shock lower bolt (ZJ): 68
    Shock lower bolt (WJ): 85
Sway bar end link (ZJ): squish the rubber bushings
Sway bar end link to sway bar (WJ): 40
Sway bar end link to axle (WJ): 68
Upper control arm, both ends (ZJ): 55
Upper control arm, frame side (WJ): 74
Upper control arm, axle side (WJ): 105
    Lower control arm: 130
Track bar (ZJ): 74 officially, I used 80
WJ does not have a rear track bar on account of the triangulated upper control arm.

As a Floridaman, my 1998 GC has been in Florida my whole life. *NO RUST* 322k miles and the original suspension. Starting to make a lot of interesting noises. Need to rebuild the front and rear end

I replaced the rear shocks for the same Bilstein and unexpectable got something like a death wobble (shimmy, tank-slapper, speed-wobble). I'm really confused. Is the normal position of these shocks? inverted. The blue dust boot at the bottom and the yellow body at the top

Yes it's the normal position. You more than likely have worn out bushings that need to be replaced as well.

Why You have drum brakes at the back?

1995 and earlier came with drum brakes on the Dana 35.

@@PatsCarGarage maybe a good future project /video! ;-) For info: my 1994 ZJ came from factory with a Dana 35 and disc brakes. 🙂

@@MrVaderino I think the factory tow package added rear discs.

@@PatsCarGarage it may be the reason why. Mine indeed have "tow package". Cheers
