Around Lake Tegernsee - bike tour through the scenic foothills of the Alps and noble holiday resorts

- Today we cycle around Lake Tegernsee. On the way we visit the well-known posh towns of Rottach-Egern and Bad Wiessee on the banks of the lake. Then we take a walk in the town of Tegernsee to the Great Paraplui viewpoint.
We start our tour in the town of Tegernsee and first ride along the beautiful waterfront promenade. Here we pass the former Tegernsee monastery. Its founding in 746 was the nucleus of the settlement of the Tegernsee Valley. After a period of prosperity in the Middle Ages, it became the summer residence of the Bavarian King Max I Joseph after secularization, which marked the beginning of tourism on Lake Tegernsee. Today the building houses a brewery and a restaurant.
We continue cycling and already have a beautiful view of the community of Rottach-Egern, which we will soon reach. The place is known for its posh tourism with noble hotels and fine restaurants. Many celebrities have their residence and second home here. Here, too, there is a beautiful waterfront promenade, where Bavarian traditional brass music, but also swing, can be heard from the music pavilion. In the nearby spa complex we find sculptures of the town's most famous residents at the time, the tenor Leo Slezak and the Bavarian local poets Ludwig Ganghofer and Ludwig Thoma. Today Lake Tegernsee is a popular residential area for former and current FC Bayern soccer team employees, including Uli Hoeneß, Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm, all of them famous soccer players of Germany.
We continue, cross the river Weissach, the main tributary of Lake Tegernsee, and come to Bad Wiessee. This is another posh place that has retained the typical Upper Bavarian cityscape. Here too we ride along a nice spa promenade along the lake.
From the north side of Lake Tegernsee we have a wonderful view over the lake and the entire Tegernsee valley with the mountains in the background.
Then we reach the starting point of our bike tour again, the city of Tegernsee. We walk through the charming town, walk along the waterfront and take a short hike to the Great Paraplui. The Great Paraplui is located on the Leeberg and is one of the most famous historical sights on Lake Tegernsee. The Bavarian King Max I Joseph already appreciated this place. He invited the Austrian and Russian emperors to show them the magnificent view of Lake Tegernsee and his summer residence. A memorial stone commemorates the so-called Three Kings meeting in 1822. The Leeberg is now a celebrity residential area. We come across a house with a striking soccer goal in the garden. Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper of the German national soccer team, lives here.
After we have strengthened ourselves with the good Bavarian cuisine of the Tegernsee Monastery, we take an evening walk along the lake to the Small Paraplui. The lake now offers a wonderful view at dusk and sunset, a worthy end to our bike tour, which unfortunately has now come to an end with this stage.
