- This week I spend a few weeks looking into and testing a new WATER MONITOR from a company called KACTOILY.😉👍
They make water monitors for aquariums and are keen to see how they will work in our Koi Fish ponds.
We had to agree that the channel viewers would be able to see the results whether good or bad, and whether it would work or not for me on my pond.
So sit back and see how the time I spent with the water monitor went, testing locating it and my overall opinion of the unit.
All the details for the water monitor are below to view their web site and to purchase one if you think it would benefit your pond water monitoring.
Here's the product link:

More info on the product...
The Kactoily 6-in-1 water quality monitor can provide breeders with real-time information about Temperature, pH, TDS, EC, Salinity, and S.G. of the fish tank/grass tank.
By doing so, breeders can gain a better understanding of the chemical conditions in the fish tanks. In order to maintain a stable and healthy environment for aquatic pets, it is essential to discover and solve problems with water quality in time.
Water quality requirements vary according to the type of aquatic pet. Breeders can also adjust water quality parameters to meet the needs of different types of aquatic pets in fish tanks by using Kactoily water quality monitors. It will improve their quality of life and survival rate.
Temperature
When it comes to managing fish tank water quality, the temperature is one of the most important parameters. The water temperature has a great influence on the growth, health, and reproduction of aquatic animals and plants. There are different requirements for water temperature for different types of fish.
Cold-water fish generally require water temperatures of 10-20 °C. If the water temperature is too high or too low, it will negatively affect the growth and health of the fish.
Tip for Water Temperature:
The water temperature can be measured with Kactoily Water Monitors and controlled by adjusting the heater or cooler. At the same time, it can also maintain a stable water temperature through reasonable lighting, filtration and ventilation.
pH
The pH value is an index of the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) in water, which indicates the acidity and alkalinity of the water. Acidic water has a lower pH; alkaline water has a higher pH; and neutral water has a pH of 7.
It is important to note that different fish species need different pH ranges. The pH of the water can affect the fish's health as well. Low pH levels in water will enhance the toxicity of ammonia, which will have a negative effect on fish health. It is important to note, however, that if the pH value of the water is too high, it will affect the respiratory and digestive functions of the fish, causing them to get sick or even die.
The pH level of water should be between 6.5 and 8.5. Most freshwater fish prefer a pH of 6.5-7.5.
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
TDS refers to the total dissolved solids in the fish tank, usually expressed in PPM (parts per million) or mg/L (milligrams per liter). In aquarium water, it measures dissolved minerals, organic and inorganic components, including dissolved minerals.
EC (Electrical conductivity)
The conductivity of fish tank water is determined by the concentration or content of conductive substances. This indicator measures the ionized substance concentration in water.
Sanility
Normally, salt doesn't need to be added to freshwater fish tanks. Freshwater fish and aquatic plants can be negatively affected by salt because it changes the chemical composition of the water. However, you can add salts in some cases, like to treat fish diseases or improve electrical conductivity. Salt should generally not exceed 3000 ppm, or 0.3%, in freshwater fish tanks.
S.G. (Specific Gravity)
The specific gravity of fish tank water is the ratio of its density to that of pure water. It is commonly used to measure salinity or dissolved substances concentration in fish tanks.
Very interesting video must definitely check this place out soon. 😂 But seriously thanks very much lovely to see you again. Great content.
Thanks Lee. I was keeping my fingers crossed you were going to enjoy the video..😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle loved it!
Andy, fantastic to finally meet you today in Coventry, enjoyed talking to you, keep those vids coming for our Friday fix 👍
Hiya, ya great to meet you as well. Great chatting and thank you for the feedback. Every day is a school day...😉👍
Looks like a cracking bit of kit Andy 👌 TDS as already said is total dissolved solids 👍 very lucky to get offered one of these nice bit of kit 👍
Thanks 👍 I saw you on Sat night talking about it while Dave sorted the children.. So far so good with it as I intend ion continuing to use it on my system..😉👍
Thank you Andy for your fascinating review! That conversation between you and Andy really shocked me! Great clip!
Just be careful not to exceed the highest water level, as long as the lowest water level of the probe is completely immersed in water, that is totally ok.
Thank you again and hope you enjoy it!
Glad you enjoyed the video. You'll occasionally see Andy in shot when Andy is trying to present something on camera..😂😂.. I should have mentioned that I'd placed the unit in the filter system at a level that doesn't exceed the max water depth so it stays above the top max level. Loving the new product and thank you for considering me to test and produce the video for my viewers.. 😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Love u!! I really love your presentation style, Andy!
looks a good bit of kit. you explained it all well. great info
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed the video...😉👍
Looks good. I might add it to my collection of other probes for cross reference 👍
Yeah go for it. I've never had any electronic pond water gadgets but think this one will do the job for me..
Hi from Japan🇯🇵
Thank you for sharing excellent video!!
Hi in Japan. Glad you enjoyed the video... 😉👍
What a crack little gadget that is i will most definitely be have a closer look at that for my pond build
Yeah, go for it. I'm keeping it monitoring my water for the time being..😉👍
love the need for a clothing change to open up the box...and then you changed back again..haha. Did the lights go out at 4min in. OMG .. thats not rain. NIce bit of kit ( I think ) but a bit of a faff to organise where to put it. NIce discount for the buyers. A good teachable video.
Thanks for that. Love a wardrobe change mid vid.. yeah all of a sudden it got real dark and the sky dumped many gallons of rain on us in a short time...
Epic video today ! 😊 great gadget... to see and that is good ideas still coming from you tube ... can't wait for the next one .
and will fO k affect the results also ?
Keeping me waiting for the next instalment lol ha ha ha
Thanks for that.. Glad you enjoyed the video.. Good point with the FOK.. I feel a school day test coming on..😉👍
Cool video mate
I have the BLUELAB and is very good
But this one you testing have more things you can monitor 👌
Yeah I'm going to continue to use it as it seems to have just what I need to monitor my pond water all in one unit...😉👍
Well done Andy just bought one
Great. Enjoy your new gadget..😉👍
That seems the same as single units you can buy doing calibration is simple with distilled water. the single units cost around £8 each and are waterproof so can be left in the filter system.
Just checking the things I have purchased over the past few years and found a note about an Italian company If I remember and that’s an if at my age they had a Digital WiFi PH EC TDS SALT SG.Temp Meter Water Quality machine out last year which could be left in the pond and sent a reading to your phone I think it was around £60 and 12v so it was the price of 2 test kits however you still had to purchase Ammonia/Nitrate/Phosphate/ test kits. So I stayed with the test kits.
It's for a saltwater tank eg reef tank I would think
But seems to work on my pond for alot less than the equivalent water monitor.. got a great discount as well..😉👍
Mike at koi Beginnings done a vid on this the other day looks a good bot of kit 👍😉
Yeah saw that. Good vid. 👍I managed to get a great discount..😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle happy days 👍👍
Be better if it could connect by Wi-Fi to a phone app. Then you could see PH and other paramiter histories 🤔
Ahhh, now then, watch this space for the next video as that product is developed..🤔😉👍
TDS is total disovled solids. the unit looks like the seneye mainly used in the marine aquaiums i had to monitor it in my 1000ltr reef
SG is another marine peramitor if your looking at all the inderivual monitors for what this does your looking at well over£1k for a basic setup system i was looking for one before i shut my reef tank down due to not being able to spend the time that was needed for keeping the water quality so went back to freshwater i was hoping to get to the kio show as it was 30mins down the road from where i live but family commitments came first 😪
Next time please mention that this company is in America and you got to wait 7-15 days for delivery and also maybe some import taxes could be innvolved so they need to give you a better code than the 2% on top of the normal 10 they offer if you sign up with your email kinda not worth it if it goes over the 100 pound mark at list to me please test it some more against manual tests I want to see the acuracy
Nice review. Is £107 the discounted price? I can see where to add any code. I’m off my trolley on medication so apologies if it’s obvious…
The £107 is before the discount. The 14% is only there for a few days then 12% for some more days. Enjoy your meds..😊👍
How is the water moniter going any problems
Hiya, I haven't calibrated it yet so not sure if the PH is accurate at the moment. So far seems to be doing the job I expected though. May have a new product coming soon...😉👍
TDS Total Dissolved Solids. It's the amount of organics in your water, and also metals and minerals dissolved in your pond water. The lower number you get, the better it is fir your fish. It's something commonly measured in ponds. One of the aims of RO is to bring the TDS down which is the best for the fish.
yes you can use RO systems to reduce the TDS in your water but somewhere along the line you have to add minerals back into the water that the RO has stiped out I used to keep marine/reef tanks and had to go one step further than just using a RO system with a Di unit that would give me a TDS reading of 0.01ppm its not only the organics that it stripes out its chemicals, minerals, heavy metals so i had to add back all the benerficial minerals back into the water
@@CCCOILS.UK1 I did say 'one of the aims of the RO..'
RO systems in pond, as you know from the aquariums, are more for people who suffer with tap water with chloramine and other heavy metals. My case here, except chloramine. The TDS goes down automatically.
So am I right that harder water is higher TDS and visa versa..
I feel a school day coming on..😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle yes. RO makes the KH and pH and other things going down as it gets rid of majority of the 'bad' stuff in water, therefore you end up with soft water. Best for the koi in general. They heal quicker too, better for the sheen on the skin and many other things.
What rc car is that in the man cave?
Funny you should mention that. I spotted it in shot during editing and thought someone might pick up on it. I cant remember what the actual name of the car as I've had it years, but it says Manta Ray on it..😉👍
