- Less than a month after Ed Reed was announced as having a deal to be the next head coach at Bethune-Cookman University the two have parted ways. The school decided to move on after Reed said on a social media video that all HBCU’s need help and those running them have quote, “broken mentalities.” During an interview with Roland Martin Monday, Reed said he was offered jobs at Jackson State, directly from Deion Sanders, and one from Grambling that he turned down. He also said quote, “I’m not what these people are portraying me to be” and he called the Bethune-Cookman athletic director “evil.” Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe react.

I am a HBCU alumni. It isn't just about people & alumni not donating money its about the money they're donating disappearing or being used inappropriately.
It took the players from Grambling St University to publicly humiliate the university into building a suitable facility for them to practice and play. Sometimes it takes public outcry to get these administrators to get up off of their behinds to do right by the students
As a recent graduate of BCU 2016-2021 (undergrad and grad)... these problems that Ed brought to the world have always been at BCU. The best thing that can happen from this is that they reconsider Ed Reed to be the HC, because anyone that gets this job now has to have those issues addressed before signing a contract. Let Reed and his donors do that that they told him they would do. And the University keeps its money to go where it's needed in other places.
It wasn't meant for Ed Reed to Coach Bethune-Cookman. BC wasn't ready for Ed and Ed wasn't ready for BC. I'm just glad the trap house now finally got surveillance footage! This was a necessary punch in the mouth for BC, HBCUs, The Black Community, and the American Community.
Those kids were out there sharing helmets.

The one time I visited Bethune Cookman, I was surprised out how bad the conditions were. And I lived in NC, home of FSU, NC Central, A&T, and St. Augustine. The conditions at those HBCU’s weren’t the BEST, but they took pride in the campus and it was clean and kept up to the degree their resources would allow. Bethune Cookman was not thT
BCU is one of the most expensive universities. Still no word on the 25 million that went missing few years back
You don’t need donors to do something simple as cleaning up. These people just don’t care and that’s what Ed was showing
Admins already know its unacceptable. Now they have to address it because it went public. Admins aren't blind but they'll take their pay
Ed exposed what was problem for years. It's a shame no one had the courage to expose them aloud like Ed did!
Call Brent Farve. He good with building new facilities with FUNDS
Any coach that accepts this job, without making Bethune Cookman address the issues Ed exposed first, will not be taken seriously.
This is why I prefer undisputed than first take. Both have controversial takes at times when it comes to sports but when it’s social issues undisputed is miles ahead of first take

What Ed Reed did was EXPOSE issues of HBCU's
As a FAMU alum, it’s sad to see HBCU be viewed in this light. FAMU was an excellent university for me and I recommend anybody to bring their children there.
Ed is completely right. If you're going to bring him in to turn the school around, how are you going to do that showing kids a dirty campus with mold in the dorms? Having the campus clean is literally the first thing in having a viable college
Shannon, you know Ed was right on this. The only time HBCUs make a change for the better is when they're publicly outed. Ed knew this and he knew these kids needed someone to stand up for them. NOTHING would have even thought of changing if it wasn't for him
