      Sophie Ryder Vlogs hi excellent video. I'm currently deciding Between Liverpool and Manchester. However Manchester seems a lot more buzzing with a lot of construction going on. Is Liverpool also buzzing with investment and new buildings?

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 7 lety

      Hello Sean, thank you!
      I was deciding between those two originally too. Do you mean is Liverpool investing in new buildings as a city or specifically the university campus?
      The campus can definitely be described as buzzing with investment. The university has invested a lot into development over recent years (£600 million) with various projects that have been recently finished, are undergoing, and are planned for the near future. If you want to read about them in detail it talks about them a lot on their website here: www.liverpool.ac.uk/facilities-management/campus-development/ (Notice the drop down menu under 'campus development' on the left as there's lots more info there).
      If it's the city you are referring to, I have to say I don't really know anything about what's going on with new buildings, if you have a more specific question I could definitely take it to someone and find out for you? In the meantime this article talks about investment in the city, I hope it helps to answer your question: www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/10bn-city-developments-transform-liverpool-11942336

    Great video! I'm from the USA and I'm considering one of University of Liverpool's online programs. I'm curious what the perception is of the online programs amongst the students who study on campus? Thanks!

    Hi, is it common for first-year undergraduates to stay in private accommodation? im just thinking im late to apply so might not get a place on the university halls or student ivllages.

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 6 lety +2

      I think I remember the university saying that they guarantee a place in one of their halls if they offer you a place to study at the university, so you don't need to worry about that. But to answer your question, no it is not uncommon for first years to be in private accommodation. Less common with University of Liverpool as they guarantee a place in their accommodation, but students from other universities in Liverpool often do go in private. You can always ask a private accommodation what their demographics are. You may find yourself with a lot of John Moore's students as their uni is so close to our uni. Good luck and thanks for watching! :)

    Hi Sophie. you're videos are really enlightening, keep doing them as you go. I also had some questions like :
    1. How important is math for a business management course and what percentage of math would they expect? p.s I have math but am not too good at it but I'm good at all other subjects.
    2. Do Bristol and Manchester have a good party scene too?
    Please answer, you'd be of great help.

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 7 lety +2

      Hello Kartik :)
      1. As far as I can see on our website, there are no entry requirements regarding maths in order to be able to study business management here, however I had a look at the course modules and it did look like there were quite a few references to maths. Here's a link to the page on the site, you can have a look through and see if the level of maths seems ok for you: www.liverpool.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/business-management-ba-hons/module-details/ Also, there's a contact for the department on that page, so you could contact the uni for a really specific answer.
      2. Manchester is generally known as being a good night out, however the clubs are quite dotted around so it's not like Liverpool where you can just walk from one to the next. Also I've heard it's very house and edgey music.
      Bristol isn't really known for it's nights out as far as I know, but I haven't been so don't quote me. Something to consider between the two is that Bristol is south and Manchester is north, so Manchester is so much cheaper. But nowhere beats Liverpool ;)

    Hi Sophie, I've recently gotten into Liverpool, but I've gotten in as a foundation year as I'm coming from America and all my qualifications are a bit different. I'm just wondering if you know anyone who's done a foundation year and if they have any opinions on it? I know its at a college in St. Helens and I'm a bit worried about getting to know people and everything in general. Also thanks for this video its been super helpful!

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 7 lety +1

      Hello :) Aw thank you I'm happy that it's helped you!
      I'm sorry I don't know any foundation years personally so I'm not able to answer your questions on that I'm afraid... but if it provides any comfort for you in regard to your worry with getting to know people I can honestly assure you that you will have no problems with that here! You will make so many friends as soon as you arrive. You'll make friends on your course, in your lectures, in your accommodation, at any events you go to.. even just when you're catching the bus or buying a Starbucks! Liverpool is such a friendly city and I have every confidence that every person who's path you'll fall into will love becoming friends with you as an American, I hope you can feel confident in that too and enjoy every moment :-)

    Hey, sophie I'm thinking of applying to Melville grove and crown court. They're quite expensive and I was thinking as you are a student at liverpool, what are the pros and cons of these accommodations?

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 7 lety +1

      Hello Shahena :)
      They are expensive but you can get a maintenance loan that is paid back gradually so it's not as daunting as it seems at first!
      In terms of pros and cons... one person's pro will be someone else's con, for example the noise curfew at 11pm. Some will find that annoying and want to carry on partying, and others will appreciate it. So instead of saying the good and the bad, I will list some of the main points about each and hopefully that'll give you a better idea of which one works better for you.
      Melville Grove is very different to all the other halls. They are actually student houses. I believe they are three stories high and have eight students in each. You share bathrooms and a kitchen. They have wash basins in the bedroom (which Crown Place doesn't have).
      Crown Place has blocks of flats, ranging from 5-10 people sharing each flat. You share a kitchen with the people in your flat but have your own ensuite. It is the biggest accommodation that the uni has and the newest. It's also known to be the strictest, so flat parties (pre drinks) have to stop after 11pm.
      They are both on-campus, self-catered and have cleaners that visit three times a week and have a halls student committee that organise events in your halls throughout the year.
      They are the main differences and similarities between the two. I hope I have helped, if you have any more questions please let me know :) x

    Hi, On campus, is there any where I could park my car?

    • @SophieRyderVlogs
      @SophieRyderVlogs  Před 7 lety +2

      Hello Danyal, there are car parks on campus but they are very expensive and during work hours on week days you'll struggle to get a space.
      There is a nursery car park right next to central campus which you are allowed to get a parking pass for and that's only £12 a week. It's the cheapest one I'm aware of and they only give out limited passes so you are guaranteed to get a space.
      If you can help it though, you're really better off not having a car in your first year. Hope this helps:)
