  • In the movie, Serendipity, one of the characters says: “You know the Greeks didn’t write obituaries. They only asked one question after a man died: Did he have passion?’”
Now there is very little evidence to confirm that this was actually a ritual or a question that was discussed when someone died. This quote however underscores the reality that passion drives our human emotions - like love, hatred, happiness, and sadness. And our emotions impact what we do on a day-to-day basis. So, when we look at passion through the lens of our careers, our level of passion for what we do separates excellence from mediocrity.
If we have a strong devotion in what we do, we are more likely to achieve excellence in that endeavor. In the military, we had a passion for serving our country and the mission. As we transition, we need to seek a new passion, a new mission, so we can achieve that same level of excellence in the next stage of our lives.
In this lesson, we’re going to hear from Simon Sinek about discovering our why and purpose. Simon is an organizational consultant, inspirational speaker, and author of five books, including: Start With Why, Find Your Way, and the newly published The Infinite Game.
    Learning Objectives
    * Understand the importance of ‘starting with why’ as it relates to thinking critically about identifying your new mission and purpose after military service.
    * Identify the differences between infinite and finite game thinking and how this mindset can positively or negatively impact your career transition and development.
    * Identify the things that drive you to succeed and begin thinking critically about how you want to be remembered.
