Straining rice is completely okay. That's how u get the excess starches and the gross stickiness away. The rice becomes a little more fluffy instead of sticky
Indians do strain rice , But only basmati rice ( very long grain ) because every grain needs to be separate( or else you would dishonour your parents ) and since it will be cooked again ( like in a biryani or jeera rice etc ) it’s important to strain the rice so that it’s not fully cooked .
This guy's name is Vishal langthasa and he is from the state of Assam, and I'm from Assam too. Proud to be an Assamese. proud to be an Indian . Jai Hind.
Growing up in a Bengali house hold, we were taught to cook our rice in a deep pot with loads of water. We would have to keep an eye on it and then when it started to boil check that the rice is more then half cooked. Once checked we would put the lid on the pot and drain straight from it into the sink, getting rid of extra water so when we put it back of the stove it’s not sticks rice just more loose grains instead. We don’t use rice cookers like East Asians do. Wish we did though would have been so much more quicker and easier.
But I think our version of cooking rice makes it more soft, delicate and tasty. Don't like the taste of rice cooked in rice cooker as it always feels different. But maybe the rice cooker was broken

I don't know why Vishal's smile reminds me of Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Mind you, this is a compliment, I loved that movie)..
Those who are fighting in the comment section about straining the rice. Calm down. Indians strain all kinds of rice for our usual rice dishes. In Bengali we want our "Bhaat" (Steamed rice) to be "jhorjhore" (non-sticky and saperated). So the point is to strain. We don't usually eat sticky rice. But there are sometimes when we eat something similar to sticky rice, at least in Bengal, we call it "Phena Bhaat". For this, we pressure-cook the rice (sometimes with lentils) and that isn't strained later. But obviously, it isn't an everyday staple.
Living with Americans i learn one thing they get excited about desi food , us not so much. And i personally thinks thats because our dishes do taste real good although it take time and lots of ingredient to cook them. 🤣🤣
Yea right, i felt there was a lack of effort, he didnt even defrost the chicken, I would've definitely made the stove squeaky clean before bringing my camera anywhere near to it.
Because overpopulated India also happens to be the one with the largest amount of thirst for foreign approval on the planet. Hence more subscribers and more views
The last girl who strained it was roasted. I wonder how East Asians were cooking rice before the invention of rice cooker?? Rice cooker is easy. People in India donot use rice cooker everytime. I used rice cooker and it's easy. No draining of excess water. Traditional fire and pot would need straining because we don't always measure the amount of water. We eyeball it. And if we find the rice cooked enough for our need then we do strain the excess water.
The traditional method of cooking rice is by draining the excess water, which is also healthy as it drains the excess starch from rice. Even now when plain rice is cooked in large quantities for wedding parties, other such events, draining method is preferred. It's common in restaurants and hotels too. BTW what you cooked is jeera fried rice, for any fried rice recipes, cooking rice in rice cooker is safe. jeera pulao would also have been much more easier to cook.
Can we normalise draining water off of rice? That's extremely common in India. Mainly cuz we don't eat sticky rice. When you drain excess water, it reduces the stickiness.
