    They taught us in Automotive Machining at Palomar College what-all needs to be done to successfully weld cast iron exhaust manifolds and (theoretically) heads, but A BLOCK?!?!?! That's freakin' awesome!

    I love this guy. He calls an engine an engine. Motor is reserved for electrical. Drives me nuts when I hear gear heads calling an engine a motor. "Fry burger" and many more on HRM call it a motor continually throughout every show.

    Guys in India do this every day on big Cat diesels down to scooter cases. Its an amazing thing to see. We In America are told that its too hard , weak , or cant be done.
    They do it every day. Turbo diesel Engine blocks torn in half, repaired, and running at full power again. Not a drop of brazing used. Dang AMAZING!

    Those are casting plugs. When they casted those iron blocks they used sand. Those are to get the sand out of the block and not freeze plugs. Wow, freeze plugs!!!

    The 68 Hemi block I started with wasn't as sketchy as this 383 is. I ended up getting cold feet and bought a brand new 426 block. I want to be able to put my foot into it and not worry about it exploding. Peace of mind is more important to me.

    The core plug holes were put there to affix the core mold during casting. As is affirmed by this block the plugs are ineffective in the case of freezing.

    • @mikefromspace
      @mikefromspace Před 3 měsíci

      Actually, a weld is stronger than a cast, so no. So long as the cast iron is hot enough, you don't get stress and it looks like they got a twisted block doing that but ended up making a better engine in the end because of the 40/thousands over boring! So the end result is it's got a hare more power than stock, and the oversized Chevy lifters will keep her a little cooler for a little longer. If you could made an entire block out of welds, it would be the strongest block ever made.

    • @joshuabekel9700
      @joshuabekel9700 Před 3 měsíci

      @mikefromspace I know all about cast iron repair. I understand what you're saying. My question is concerned with the fact it's no longer a factory block. It's a repaired numbers matching block. If I had the option to buy, I don't think I'd pay the asking price as if it were unmolested. We had a local vintage Mopar dealer come into the shop in a panic. Because a local muffler shop broke the factory (complete original factory car) exhaust manifolds. Apparently, these were particularly rare. Pretty much name your price if you found a set. We could fix them, but you would know they were fixed. No one around her does old-school cast repair. Either nickel or brass rod. He was upset because he had the car sold. I don't blame him. Either he took a loss or lost the sale. He had a numbers matching car with a heavily repaired numbers exhaust manifold. That didn't give him license to be an a-hole to us, though.

    • @joshuabekel9700
      @joshuabekel9700 Před 3 měsíci

      @mikefromspace I'm not talking about strength or if its a better engine now. I'm referring to value and originality.

    • @MiturBinEsderty
      @MiturBinEsderty Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@joshuabekel9700 it hurts it a little bit. I’ve bought cars with a sleeved block and factored in a little but not as much as a block that’s not matching. If I were buying the car I’d price it less than matching numbers because if that engines fails I’ll be stuck with a devalued car. I don’t care how strong the repair is. It’s not the same. Is there a chance of further cracking maybe.
      However that repair if not disclosed would most likely not be found out. Nobody removes an intake and carb during an inspection

    2nd gen dodge charger is one of the most beautiful cars dodge ever made. The Dodge Daytona is one of the fugly cars ever made. It was so bad some had to be converted back to chargers for dodge to be able to sell these clown looking cars and now there are people who spend big money to make clone cars??? Crazy! I can kind of see someone buying an original because the crazy prices they get now but a clone? Why? When the charger is so much better looking and you end up with an ugly fake.

    This car will forever be marked with a “salvaged” engine. What’s the point of all this originality if you can’t drive the car as intended. The only way it’s worth close to the same as an unmolested numbers matching engine would be to include a date matching complete engine as a spare to be used when the car is driven. Save the “original” engine for shows.

    MARK MARK MARK. You are letting me down. There is nothing on a motor called a "freeze plug" ever in any motor. They are core plugs NOT freeze plugs. If the factory called them freeze plugs when a block cracked because some idiot put straight water in it the factory would be liable for any damage. As you are famous for saying details matter.

    OK lets Get it right .They are not freeze plugs They are not for freezing. They will push out if your lucky but they are CORE plugs. they are where the liquid cast iron is pored into the mold. After the block comes out of the mold it is machined to take a push in plug. The core plug has a common name of freeze plugs. However they are CORE plugs!
