Actually, I don't think Pentatonix sets out to improve on some of the classics they cover. They just want to pay homage to the original artists. And I've heard it said that they will not do a cover unless they feel they can do it justice. And they don't miss. Loved the reaction.

Thank you for reacting to this epic cover by Pentatonix. Brian May, of Queen, liked it enough to post the video link on his social media with the message to enjoy. FUN FACT: Pentatonix will be on "Queen Family Singalong'" Thursday, November 4 on ABC at 8 PM Eastern time. They will sing Queen's song "Somebody To Love". It's one of my favorite Queen songs. Please react to Pentatonix new video for "The Prayer".

I can't hardly wait to see your reaction to Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel, and Imagine by John Lennon. Sounds of Silence was my first video by them and blew me away. Imagine was sung by them on a whole new level, bringing a new meaning to this song which made me smile and tear up at the same time; a very strong meaning, and so beautiful! I have yet to find a song by Pentatonix that I did not fall in love with. Wait till you hear "The Prayer"!

  • @klayers1555

The group worked on this arrangement and staging of the song for a couple of years because they intended it as a loving tribute to Freddy and Queen. BTW the "guitar" solo near the end over the star field was intended as a small tribute to Queen lead guitarist and Astrophysicist Brian May. Also, bass Avi Kaplan left the group in 2016 for personal reasons (on good terms) and was replaced by another marvelous talent Matt Sallee in 2017; that's the only change of personnel in their ten year history. Check out their Christmas covers, amazing stuff, especially "Where are you Chrsitmas?", "O Come all Ye Faithful", "White Winter Hymnal" and their Grammy winning take on "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". Thanks!

Congratulations on a great reaction and they have a "behind the Scenes" of this one. It was filmed outdoors at night and a moment the couch almost rolled away and Scott said something about maybe they should wear helmets. If you continue to react to them don't be surprised when your subscribers go from almost 5,000 to 20,000. You will get 200+ or 300+ comments so you can't respond to all.
NOTE: PTX don't do covers, they do Upgrades. Cohen who wrote 'Hallelujah' saw the PTX version said it was the best arrangement he heard before he passed away. Queen's Brian May said it was a great tribute. And if you react to their Beyonce just know she posted it to her Instagram. They celebrated their 10th anniversary in June and then Mitch turned 29 over the summer and Scott celebrated his birthday in September. They have been friends since they were met at age 10. Mitch met Kirstin about 8 years old as they did Community Arts Theater as kids. They have been blending together for about 20 years now, so it was easier as a new member joined. Their parents are all friends also since they were around together. They have Multiple Christmas Albums and an NBC Special so there is a lot down this rabbit hole.

Better than Queen, not possible. But remove all instruments & what you have here is a bloody brilliant acapella performance of an iconic song. I really admire the way this cover was constructed, the tribute to the original & the vocalisations to interpret that rock sound. Epic, yes!

Great reaction!! The thing I love so much about Pentatonix (besides the stellar singing/harmonies) is that even when they do a cover of another artist's song they do it not only with outstanding creativity but with respect and a certain amount of humility that comes across in a very pleasing way. Thank you so much for reacting to "Bohemian Rhapsody" so soon. Their newest release "The Prayer" from their latest album "Evergreen" is one of the most touching renditions of that song I have ever heard. Also, Their music video of "Amazing Grace" will give you chills. I truly enjoy watching your reaction videos and look forward to seeing more soon!

Fun Fact: They worked on this arrangement for 5yrs until they were able to do it "live" without loosing any quality. And if you find some of them doing it live, you will see they pretty much sound as good. 🤩and the cosmic sky and the shooting stars was their way of recognizing "Brian May" - lead guitarist & (astrophysicist), is now:- Sir Brian Harold May CBE💓

Hey, just for the heck of it, I really would like you to flash forward five to ten years into the present, and catch up with one or two of the current Pentatonix hits, so you get a feel for the current configuration of this group, as it has been for the past four plus years.post Avi, with his replacement bass, Matt Sallee. They were so spectacular with Avi in the group that some people stay in that past without following them into the present where they are still producing stellar songs, both originals and upgrades. (They don't do covers, they do upgrades.) So, "The Prayer," "Amazing Grace," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?," and "90's Dance Medley," should get you started.

Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody gave you 2 very different looks at PTX...if you want to get a few more different looks, I'd try either Daft Punk or 90s Dance Medley for something fast paced and also one of their Evolution videos where they go thru a large selection of an artist's song catalog. The whole thing is done in 1 take and doesn't go thru post production either. Michael Jackson is a good one to start with. Enjoy your journey 😊

They nearly always pay homage to the original song and/or artist in their covers - often a few bars unaltered before they start layering harmonies; and at times, trying to sing with intonation/ inflection/accent of the original artist, or even a previous cover. Not to mention wardrobe choices, props, and lighting.

No one will ever be "Queen" or "Freddy" BUT PTX did an Epic job doing this song and in certain places paying homage to the original group and song and still making it their own. You will hear many vocal teachers say that to do a cover of someone elses song you have to do one of two things, 1) do the song like the original but better or 2) remake it your way, and different from the original. You really should keep going with the PTX songs.

Pentatonix does not disappoint, but Disturbed doing Sound of Silence is better. These guys are great though.

Fantastic aren’t they? Great reaction. Brian May himself loved this. I’m sure Freddy would be proud.
You must watch their cover of Imagine by John Lennon….amazing

If you have time this month, could you react to the video about Glenn Campbells journey and tour after being diagnosed with Alzheimers and to the song I'm Not Going to Miss You. Nearly everyone knows someone affected by this horrid disease.

Pentatonix did this cover not to outdo Queen, but rather as an homage to them.

Their Christmas EP came out October 29th, all of the songs are amazing, please react to their rendition of The Prayer by Dion and Bocelli (sp). I can not really find a word to describe this cover, I've followed them since they were on a TV show called The Sing Off in 2011 and this one left me stunned and speechless.

So glad you enjoyed this amazing rendition. Maybe next try their version of Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence. After that, try the same song’s version by Disturbed. It’s remarkable

You may want to check out some of the music done by Mitch and Scott as a duo, Superfruit. "Guy.exe" is particularly hilarious. Too bad you just missed Halloween.
