Es gibt Songs, die vergisst man nie. Ich bin inzwischen 57 Jahre alt. Diesen Song hörte ich zum ersten mal 1980 mit 15 Jahren. Und ich weiß genau noch, wo. Damals in der neunten Klasse. Einer der letzten Tage vor den Sommerferien. Zwei Mädels aus der achten Klasse saßen auf dem Fußboden im Schulgebäude, Kassettenrecorder dabei und dieser Song wurde gerade gespielt. Schon damals hat mich der Sound dieses Songs sehr berührt. Und es ist jetzt kein sentimentales Gelaber, wenn ich hier jetzt schreibe, dass ich schon damals wusste, dass ich diesen Song nie vergessen werde und immer in Erinnerung mit den beiden Mädels auf dem Fußboden mit ihren Kassettenrecorder haben werde. Und so ist es auch. Leider hatte ich diesen Song dann über sehr viele Jahre nie wieder gehört und ich wusste auch nicht, von wem dieser Song ist und wie er heißt. Aber CZcams macht vieles möglich.
Ich will diese Zeit zurück...Wie schön es war merkt man erst wenn es vorbei ist.

Bin 50, das ist zwar nicht meine bevorzugte Zeit und meine Musik gewesen (90er für mich), aber den Song hat man immer und immer wieder irgendwo gehört. Ist einfach genial eingängig, ich liebe ihn und der wird wahrscheinlich auch in 50 Jahren noch gehört.

Hm… geht mir genau so. Mike & Sally Oldfield s Musik war auch so was.
Für mich klass Zeitmaschinen Musik, die einen in die Vergangenheit - ob Schulflure oder Bushaltestellen beamt.
Hab ich ansonsten noch mit einer bestimmten Art von türkisfarbenem Glitzer ( Gürtelgliter damals) und einem Parfüm ( my melidie - blau -) hab auf nem Flomarkt an einer leeren Flasche gerochen und war sofort weg hier !
Ich finde ihn soo super. Ich war 10 Jahre alt. Dafür haben die einen Orden verdient. Soo viel Gefühl

Funky little '70s video - and while Jerney Kaagman is gorgeous, about those dance moves.... Still, the song transcends; it's got great hooks and harmonic progressions and is just downright enjoyable. (Love the marimba intro and the uneven measures.) I'm surprised we never heard of this in the US when it was new - so good!

What is interesting about this song and a bit weird is that the chorus and verse are quite different, almost like two songs spliced together.
Many pop songs have better verse than chorus but this isn't one of those.

Ik heb me altijd afgevraagd waarom ik tot de dag van vandaag telkens vlinders in mijn buik kreeg, melancholisch werd als ik dit nummer hoorde. Nee, niet alleen door Jerney ;-). Tot het kwartje viel, tijdens het kijken van de clip: "Sinterklaas!!" Weekend werd grijs gedraaid op radio en TV in Sinterklaas tijd! November 1979, ik was 9 jaar oud...

I was looking for this song for more than 30 years and I can't describe how ecstatic I felt then and even more now, I had almost given up.....when I found it, I felt like winning an individual world cup......what a beautiful song, mesmerizing tune, simple but amazing music and of course great singer and an amazing video....... I listen to a really broad range of music like i don't know anyone who does, but if you really like bass guitar lines and them being audible technical death metal is a rly good genre, try listening to the bass playthrough of omnipresent perception by beyond creation, maybe u wont like it but that bass line is absolutely amazing.
Wenn ich diese schönen alten Lieder höre , wird mir bewusst wie alt ich bin. In einer gewissen Weise vermisse ich das schon und zum Teil werde ich etwas wehmütig.

They are still very highly rated in the Netherlands. But as far as I remember it, they never really broke through in other countries. By the way ''Weekend'' was near the end of their most prolific period. By that time they had moved too much, imho, in the direction of ''soft'' mainstream music. Their best years were the early 1970s.

Me too! I watched this beautiful song on TV on the German music programme "Pop In Germany" in the early 1980's here in Sri Lanka. I still remember it very well e3ven after nearly 40 years. Fond memories!

@@oliverzoelke4776 Ah, yes, "Pop In Germany" was a half hour music programme which was telecast on one local TV channel at about 7.00 pm early night time here in Sri lanka in the early 80's. I remember that those programmes were produced and presented by the company named "Transtel" in Germany. Very good and popular song videos of that era were shown in these musical programmes. They were telecast each day and we were longing to see them. Those programmes became very popular among most of Western music fans of Sri Lanka at that time and I was one of them. I have good memories!

I was a young man of about 19 years at that time when I first watched this song on TV here in South Asia on the half hour musical programme "Pop In Germany" and I never forget it. Now I am 60 but I still like it.
