If refuelling was banned for 'safety reasons', tyre changes should get banned too. Lots of close calls and even people hit in recent times, OR just allow refuelling too. It's just more strategy opportunities too 🤷🏻

@@etmueosas6624 Refueling is way more dangerous than tyre changing. This kind of stuff isn't black and white, that's like saying a person who stole bread should receive the same punishment as someone who committed murder. Just because both can be dangerous, it doesn't mean they are the same. Lots of variables there, such as potential for damage and probability rate. Refueling also provides less wheel-to-wheel battle opportunities since most overtakes are made during pitstops, so you have to consider that as well. More strategy options but less action on the track.

The crew on the active side of the pit lane are supposed to hold onto the tyre until the cars gone.. But he should’ve had it behind the orange line.
Not the mechanics fault. Was an unsafe release and hulk turned WAY too early likely because of the mercedes pitting infront of them.

Wild seeing people blame the mechanic holding the tire. Go look at literally any other pitstop and then come back and watch this. Hulkenberg turned way too early and this shouldn't even be a discussion.
Nice to see that my comment already was voted to the void again. So, I will repeat myself: This is just careless from the mechanics. Take a look at other pit stops. The mechanics have the tyres far away from the car when they release the car again after the pit stop.

Hulk turned too early going over the orange line *and* the mechanic was holding the tire too close to the orange line. If either mistake was corrected then it wouldn't have happened but both were made so we got this.
How people can blame a mechanic when it clearly a driver mistake, he just drive through them. If there wasn't a tire he would drive over a left guy and the one who watches the pitlane

Looking at it, it looks like he took a very weird angle coming out of the pit box. I think had he pulled straight out and turned a bit later he could've avoided this incident
Honestly, that tire may have saved that guy from the looks of it. Had hulk kept going on the trajectory he was going, poor dude might've had some squished toes, or worse imo
The tire was not his life saver - it was the cause for this accident. To me it looked like the mechanic dreamed of being part of a more successful team instead of doing his job and free up the pit box of parts.
I think the car would’ve hit the guy kneeling behind the tire, not the guy holding the tire but the guy sitting next to him at the end. The tire might’ve actually have saved his buddy!
