      the nrl must either be complete fools, or beleive the fans are complete fools. its clear as day, and has been happening at roosters for years,
      "such a great culture at roosters, players take massive unders to stay"
      player leaves and somehow frees up triple his salary.
      teams like brisbane and penrith develop legitimate local juniors and for some reason they want to leave to take "unders" at a weaker club like roosters. hmmm makes sense

    Whilst we “feel” for Penrith, thy have won 3 titles in a row.... something has to give. It’s good for the game to spread the elite talent.

      So what is the upside for the Panthers they put the money, time and effort into identifying, developing and producing top grade talent to have the likes of Easts, Balmain, Canterbury come knocking. There is absolutely no upside other than getting a year or 2 or 3 before the other clubs realise the talent and start waving huge wads of cash. Develop your own players. The Panthers went through years of being in the basement until they cracked the development code it seems. Other clubs should try that. In Fish's case I have no issue with him going, he has family ties back in NZ that are important and he wants to leave. The Panthers were gracious in not making it difficult.

    I really like Joey, but he is talking absolute nonsense. The Panthers' reward was three premierships. When you win premierships, your players' value goes up, and many leave. It is not unfair. It is just logical.

    Why is the salary cap taken so seriously when everyone knows teams like the roosters obviously have more money than other clubs? I don't get it

      Because imo they are the best at rorting the system. They have powerful businessmen teaching them how to do it via 3rd party payments, gifts of all sorts etc. Plus, they save money by not developing talent.

      If you are cheating though half of that money goes on the cap the other half comes off the sale price of the new property you just happen to buy that just happens to belong to the club chairmen.

    It is unfortunate Penrith losing so many players, however, that is the nature of the game. Every team over the years that shows promise ultimately ends up in the same position e.g Broncos, Storm, Parra, Titans...ha ha just kidding. Mind you the Titans spend a massive amount on a lemon with legs in Fifita. That guy should be back in the local league. I am a Queenslander, but love listening to the show. Interesting questions from Danika and the best footy brain in Joey.

    To be selected for the All Blacks, players need to be contracted to NZR and playing in NZ. Even those who might play for other Super Rugby teams wouldn't be eligible, so Manu has a lot of water to pass under the bridge before getting close to selection (e.g. a season in the national comp or Super rugby next year). He wouldn't get picked until the middle of 2025 at the very earliest; I just don't see it happening.

    Thank god Joey is off the origin team, legendary player but his opinions on selections are always based off talent. Both teddy and turbo have let us down in 2023. Dylan Edwards may not score as many as those two but he definitely saves more, in origin thats so much more important than scoring. Let Nathan take control and let Dylan worry about defense. Teddy is way to predictable and DCE knows how Tommy plays, Leave turbo in the centres/wing and let the hard workers get the jerseys.

    The Roosters need to spend money on a coach not players. Watching them play Melbourne tonight it's obvious the Roosters are poorly coached. Watch how many Roosters ball runners have to stop and surrender because other players are in their way. Just bad coaching. The game has passed Robbo and he hasn't kept up.

      Read up on the salary cap, pay attention to third party payments and look are the clubs that are taking advantage of that rule. Newscorp owns one club, another has a single owner, another with two owners, another with three but the majority are owned by leagues clubs and they just cant use the loophole.

      No way. Last 4 years? Did you forget what Tom Trbojevic did in 2021? And Ryan Papenhuyzen got the Churchill metal in 2020. And both Ponga and Drinkwater were better last year. In 2022 Edwards got the Churchill Metal, ill give him that year for sure.
      But I agree Edwards > Tedesco. I would have to wait to pick though.

    A lot of the NRL Teams would be stuffed completely ITS all Penriths staff assistants coaches good player's all come out of Penrith these clubs jump up and down look who we have or got BUT ITS ALL BOUGHT NOTHING DONE THEMSELVES WITHOUT PENRITH THE WARRIORS THE BULLDOGS AND THE WEST TIGERS WOULD HAVE NOTHING AND STILL BE WOODERN SPOONERS

      The Storm are the OG provider of Stars and coaches to the NRL. What is happening to Penrith is only because Storm isn’t as dominant. Penrith are the top dogs now so more vulchers are swarming. Before everyone picked on the Storm carcass. Last few years Tino, Nicho, Smith, Fox to name a few all going for premium money. It’s always been that way. Half the clubs have a coach that was an assistant to Bellamy. Walters, O’brien, Arthur, Seibold ect. Penrith have a ton of juniors to pick from though. That’s why they will be fine

I feel for Penrith losing him but that’s the way the cap is supposed to work. How would Penrith taking Stefano be in any way good for the game?

    I'm sick of Joey whinging about Penrith losing players. Broncos lost great players before, during n after our rebuild, never mentions it. We have an ex player at every team.
    Maybe if Ivan didn't give his son half their Cap, they wouldn't be here.
