    I've been following your channel for a while now and it's so cool we're in the same place at the same time! 😅 I've been here for almost a month and I agree with all your first impressions, especially the (not) spicy food and HOT weather lol. Be sure to check out Rio Vermelho if you haven't already - everyone has told me you haven't really visited Salvador until you've seen that side of town. Also I did an African Heritage tour through Tripadvisor that I highly recommend. I learned so much and our tour guide made sure I got the full local experience. Looking forward to seeing more of your Salvador videos. Enjoy your time here!

I experienced Carnival there once, It is Crazy and Packed full of people, that you walk with the people, no personal space. I got pickpocketed. Enjoy your time there. The food was not spicy and cooked with Palm oil which made me sick.

    • @slyslife

      I got pickpocketted by a very overweight Latina at a bar. She gave me a bear hug and stole my money out of my pocket. She definitely was a professional because it was quick and you couldn't feel it. Fortunately, I only had $5 in my pants.
      Next time I'll keep my money in my socks and never accept a hug from a big mama I don't know. Still can't believe how good she was working the pants. She could have been a professional magician but working the bars probably pays more.

    I ve watched İndigoTraveler's videos regarding Brazil (He's got interesting videos about Brazil). To be honest, something seems off. You can see that in the comment section. A couple examples to read "In order to give some sort of a reference point, São Paulo has a poverty rate of about 19%. Los Angeles County has a poverty rate of over 22% and Chicago has a poverty rate of about 20%. Would Indigo Traveler have shown Los Angeles and Chicago in the same light? I doubt " - another comment - "SP is an amazing city. Very vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunities and beautiful places. Why did you choose to show only homeless people? This could also be shown in the streets of California and other places in the US... Not sure what you meant with this video. " . Nobody is saying that Brazil is the safest place in the world or Brazil has issues to solve but lets be honest that youtubers need more views so that they focus on some specific things more than the reality.As we see in the US, UK and France, they have the economic disparity between the poor and the rich. Despite the narrative of "crime and poverty", I find Brazil very beautiful and exciting. But , before you go, find out where to go and where not to go. There are a lot of expats living in Brazil and they give the info free on youtube.

    • @frmancini
      @frmancini Před 2 lety +1

      IndigoTraveler´s video about São Paulo is one of the worst I've ever seen. He spends 90% of the video showing crackheads (in a specific region that is a kind of skid row in SP) and other bad areas, and 10% of the video showing mansions. He just ignores all the rest of the city and do not show any of the nice middle class neighborhoods.

    I have been to Salvador 3 times and it was a hard city for me to navigate. It’s a big city but u find yourself goin to the same neighborhoods again and again. Maybe if I rent a car. I’m 6ft and I noticed plenty women taller than myself, I spotted a young lady around 6ft 5in. I tried holding a conversation, but maybe if I had practiced Portuguese a lil harder, lol.

    Most of the tourists that I encountered when I was there in 2003/04 were Italian, and Swiss. By the bus loads same time of year as now. Mostly men looking for one thing mainly 🤣🤣🤣…anyway two books that I recommend are A Death in Brazil, were I learned more than anywhere else before about Zumbi dos Palmares (Brazil had exponentially more African slaves than America) and Paulo Coelho’s 11 Minutes which felt really weird as it came out in 2003 and you feel like he most have been there with you that summer as he understood everything happening at the time. Take it easy.

      that is something horrible, sex tourism from women who dont has options in life, some of these tourist do even harassments, treating all brazilian women as something that they can play, totally ignoring the culture, the respect, the good and conservative values. Because of this women in Rio now see all male foreigners as sex tourists and are running away from then, and seens that nost of these youtubers try to follow the same way.

    I think I'd act surprised as well whenever someone says they're from a different country. Brazil is so mixed that we just assume everyone is Brazilian no matter what they look like. Although, sometimes we can tell by the way foreigners dress haha. It can be pretty obvious haha. Regarding the spiciness of the food, in Brazil it's more of an optional thing. We'll have hot sauces and stuff for people to use but we don't have it as the standard of the dish, generally speaking. Most households will have a jar of chilli pepper oil on the table when we eat for those who want that spiciness. And Salvador is known for being chill. So people there are definitely more patient. It might not be the case in Sao Paulo though.

    Brazilians can't handle spice, so their "spicy" is mild in the States. Good point at the end about the touristy areas and people getting the wrong impression. I've lived in a lot of non-touristy areas in Brazil and the difference can be night and day. Brazilians (from Rio) that I know who have been to Salvador several times tend to say that the city is dirty and (very) dangerous, on the whole. But then again, they also talk a lot of trash about their own city. The only place Brazilians tend to praise w/o fail is Florianopolis.

      Your ignorant. Study your history! Many of us are immigrants! From our sister country Portugal! And ancestors from France! That’s why we’re the only Portuguese country in S.A! We’re all immigrants! 😂

    The food in Bahia is not spicy. Brazilians from other parts of the country, mainly white Brazilians like to create this idea that Salvador is a super exotic city where everything is spicy and different. There’s no such a thing as spicy cuisine in Salvador/Bahia, however they OFFER hot sauce on the side. This hot sauce is very very hot, and Bahia is know for that. Also, most Brazilians are not used to Palm oil AKA Dendê Oil, many Brazilians who visit Salvador complain that had upset their stomach upset when trying Salvador’s famous food which quite honestly is 100% different from the rest of the country. So I kinda understand their shock.
